Not interested in Zac Williams in the slightest. A back pocket with a dodgy knee is not what we should be wasting our money on. Front end some of our young kids’ contracts.
The only players I’d be interested in would be Hunter Clark and Paddy Dow. I would not over reach for either though.
Did you miss the part where they give us their first currently pick 6

AND

Pay Ben McKay enough to trigger a first round compo pick (pick 3)

Add Ports pick and we’re away..
Don't forget to add a pick after our first as a PP. Having Clarko selling our case to AFL house will no doubt add more weight to the argument. Can't see how it won't happen if we finish bottom 2 with 4 or less wins. Even more so if we lose McKay. That was the justification for GC getting their suite of picks previously (poor performance over multiple years plus losing a critical player). Priority NGA player would be nice also 😜

So how interested are you in, say... drafting Harley Reid and Nick Watson together in one haul?

Would you say you have eight hundred thousand dollars worth of interest?

They’ll attempt to justify not giving us a priority pick based on the fact we will have 2 first round picks (but no mention about the fact one of those picks was because the number 1 draft pick walked out on us)

Guilty, I missed that part. I’m a huge fan of McKay, despite his form dipping this year. The deal would be worth considering

Is there actually any chance of Zac Williams being traded out though? Blues went pretty hard for him considering the $$$ they offered, it would seem strange to then offload him and a pick to boot.

Carlton offer us pick 6 to take Zac Williams and his $800K salary, then take McKay on a high enough contract to trigger band one compo and we finish 17th. So we get pick 2, 3 and 5-8(ie Carlton's first round pick) surely they're not dumb enough to do it are they?

A desperate Carlton making an outrageously bad decision?

Never happened.

Seriously? They bought a disaster at huge dollars. Great player who is constantly injured. They would offload him in a heartbeat if they could find someone to take on his contract.

They need that money to somehow balance out their top end contracts. One first round pick is a pretty palatable price to pay, it’s not like the loss of the player to us will hurt them.

PP is decided before FA and trade week
Oh My God Wow GIF

It'll be interesting, that much on a player who isnt offering them a lot while they should be challenging. Gotta give something major for that sort of salary dump.

I'm not paying what Hawthorn would want for him though.

He's definitely not a bust yet, but there's alarm bells if a side like Hawthorn, in the middle of a rebuild, is willing to offload one of their top picks they have invested in, in the last 3 years.

Just as you made the Phillips comparison, there would be alarm bells if we tried to offload him or Goater.

Most clubs, rightly, would be asking "Why are you getting rid of him?"

No side has a better understanding of his limitations than Hawthorn.
Perhaps he'd just have developed better under Clarko. Who knows, I've seen my own kids flourish under some coaches, completely go backwards under others, only to flourish again with different coaches in the same season playing in different squads.

From the Herald Sun:

"So what can the Blues do? Do they say to North Melbourne or St Kilda – here, take our No. 6 pick plus Williams and we will use the $800,000 saved to sign players who can help win the 2024 flag?"
Hun is delusional....I'm almost of the opinion we will win a flag before Carlton. Said it before and I'll say it again, Carlton's problem has always been impatience and wanting immediate gratification. Start rebuild, going ok, showing improvement, not good enough fast enough, sack the coach. After years of having high end draft picks and as soon as there's some green shoots of improvement they open the cheque book paying up for McGovern, Martin, Saad, Williams, etc none of whom are A graders and meanwhile have to pay up for their home grown/draft talent who are. As good a job as they think Voss has done, only a matter of time before he becomes yet another scape goat.

Fair enough. It had slipped my mind that he was out for the year and how old he'll be when he gets back next season.
