Both Kelly and whitfield are too old for what we're building. We need to bring in 23-26yr olds. Not guys pushing 30.
If it’s a salary dump I’d happily take Whitfield along with a draft pick

Kelly they wouldn’t want to let go anyway

I expect us to get rid of a few of the over 30s in Ziebell, hall, Goldy, shiels etc

So getting Whitfield who is 28 atm is fine

Is mcluggage gettable?
Seems like he's been pushed back with dunkley in the side and could offer us something fantastic in the midfield for years to come.
Almost happy to spend ports 1st and our future 2nd on him.
Thoughts?

We would have the wings stamped and finalised for the next 8 or so years and our two way running would improve overnight.

I feel that Bailey would learn so much from him and could get into actual jet territory (which given his trajectory is already probably a year or two away).

I think it would be worth it personally, but would pick 17ish and 22ish be satisfactory return on a AA quality winger who the Lions payed pick 3 for? Probably not.

Wow ok that's surprising. I knew we had a fair few 1st rounders but didn't think we had as many as 19 top 30 picks.
Looking at the breakdown below there's not a lot of balance in the top 30 selections across all lines and some are questionable in terms of talent level and age in terms of sticking around.

1st Round - Ziebell (#9), Cunners (#5), Stevo (#6), Logue (#8), LMac (#8), LDU (#4), Sheezel (#3), Wardlaw (#4), Corr (#14), Simpkin (#12), Bonar (#11), Powell (#13), Thomas (#8), Phillips (#3)
2nd Round (19-30) - CCJ (#20), McKay (#21), Goater (#22) , George (#26), Tucker (#27)

JZ, Cunners, Corr and Bonar won't be there too much longer and if McKay leaves that's 14 top 30 picks left.
Tucker might have 3-5 years left in him but is largely a solid AFL/depth player. Logue has been a good pickup.
LMac and Stevo aren't star players for top 10 picks, how long they will last will be an interesting one.
Phillips, Powell, Goater, George and CCJ still developing so give them some time.
Pretty confident in LDU, Simpkin, Sheezel, Wardlaw and Thomas in terms of elite potential.
Yeah, I dunno if Blight meant that because you should get a good spread of players from the top 30 to cover busts or 18 top 30 ranked players in your best 22. Or 18 of them under 25 at some point. It feels like he left half that comment unsaid.

Would love him, but as an elite pre agent who is contracted until the end of next year, I assume the Lions would need at least a top ten.

Doedee: does he make sense as an acquisition?

Victorian. Fills clear list need. Efficient user and good interceptor. Ex team mate Lynch could help facilitate the deal.

Would be 27 next season so fills our demographic need for older players too.

Current regime already shown it’s prepared to enlist talent when there’s no short term gain (see George). Might return to playing towards end of next year tho.

ACL would diminish likelihood of ridiculous rival offers. Can’t imagine managers phone has been running hot over past month.

Ticks North’s good character box. Was next in line as captain until Dawson came along.

RFA so possibly no draft capital required. But if McKay leaves, would mess with compo.

In that case, Would Crows accept a third rounder? given he’s just done a second ACL and he’s currently crowded out by Worrell and Michalanney et al, can’t imagine they’d be matching higher than band 3 compo? To say nothing of rumoured Redman trade.

Other uncertainty from a recruiting clubs perspective would be whether he can play at the same standard after a second ACL.

Nope. Number one, he wouldn't leave that joint for us. Number two, even if he did, I don't think a first rounder and a future second gets it done. More like port's first and next year's first

Mate I get your angst but there's no chance all those guys leave after this season. Do you really think, with that sheer volume of necessary replacements, that we'd be any better off? Recruiters would be scrambling for anyone to plug the vacancies in the list. You're calling for a more severe version of what we did at the end of 2020. Which got us absolutely nowhere.

Calm down, give some blokes a chance, and have some faith in our development. There are ok players in most of those you mentioned, but the COVID/Nobles era has wreaked havoc with the club. We're gradually undoing the damage, and undoing the damage does not involve culling more than a third of the list in one
The scorched earth delistings will continue until morale improves.

Lachie young a sure thing to be delisted

Goldstein must improve? He has had a very good year and most likely will finish top 5 in the Syd.
Fair point. He's had a good year but not sure if he should get another year.

That's a very impressive outcome for them.

Year that shall not be named aside, they've been through a bit as a supporter base and have a few parallels with us in terms of their successful era, battling to be competitive but ending midtable most of the time for 20 years (no priority picks) then getting hit with torrid ill-fortunate as well.

2013? 2016? 2019? 2020? 2021? 2022? 2023?

If Mckay leaves, Adam Tomlinson for a couple of years whilst we develop a KPD?

Building out from this, id be looking at doing the following:

1. Get Tomlinson
2. Draft Curtain (Best KPD) at pick 3.

Let them work together and take some pressure off Curtain to develop immediately.
yeah dont mind that but i think id prefer getting caddy and watson at 2 and 3

and just trading in KPD eg Tomlinson and 1 other (esava, BZT, Baldwin etc)
