to play devils advocate…

Is Sheezel going to be your HBF next year?

How are you covering logue and McKay?

What primary role does Hollands play?

Aside from Scott, who are your 2024 wingmen?
I hate when you play the devil’s advocate…
Rain on our damn parade with your thought out logic.

Starting with 2, 16, 39, 53 & 59 this year plus 2024 1st, 2nd and 3rd picks

McKay departs for #3 in compo

Sanders is pre listed as an NGA

Trade 2024 1st for GC #5 and Hollands

Trade #39 for Grundy (pay his salary)

Trade #53 for Joel Smith

Draft at #2, #3, #5, #16

Draft whichever of Curtin and Reid WCE don't take at #2, McKercher at #3, watch Hawthorn take Duursma at #4, take Watson at #5 & A.Reid at #16

Left with 2024 2nd & 2024 3rd

In: Sanders, Hollands, Grundy, Smith, Curtin, McKercher, Watson, A.Reid

Out: McKay, #2, #3, #5, #16, #39, #53, 2024 1st, cash, delistees

Shits easy. I'll drop the BSB on Brady when I get a sec
Going into next season without a KPD in McKay or Logue no good...all the rest sounds ok...

To play with my own sack

FB McDonald Smith Curtin
HB Thomas Corr Sheezel
C Scott Wardlaw Goater
HF Stephenson Comben Zurhaar
FF Watson Larkey Curtis
R Grundy LDU Simpkin
I Hollands Phillips Powell George
S Bergman

E McKercher Sanders CCJ A.Reid Taylor Tucker Greenwood Archer Harvey Xerri Drury Hansen Jnr.

Smith, Corr and Curtin as the three defensive talls. Thomas and Sheezel as the rebounding halfbacks. McDonald on a short leash as the lockdown defender with Arch waiting in the wings to step in if LMac has a bad stretch. There's Logue/McKay covered in a pinch

Curtin stepping in frees Goater up to play in his natural position on a wing. Scott as the more defensive winger while Goater with more natural pace can run and gun offensively

Comben back in to play foil to Larkey. Comben as a second ruck to cover Grundy whenever he needs a rest. Watson and Curtis at Larkey/Combens feet. Immediately more dangerous than Turner. Stephenson and Zurhaar pushing up to support as high half forwards with Zurhaar as the primary third forward.

Grundy starting ruck, Wardlaw as defensive centreman, Simpkin and LDU on the outside. Powell, Phillips as midfield cover; Thomas/Sheezel/Zurhaar/Curtin as a pinch in the guts.

Hollands as a switch for Stephenson/Zurhaar as a high half forward/wing. Could also run him off the HBF and push Sheezel forward. Bergman as a running HBF sub, but this could be McKercher, Greenwood, Harvey, Hansen Jnr depending on need.

Developing in the twos you've got McKercher as a wingman/HBF/centre rotation partner with Wardlaw, A.Reid as a swingman if Comben breaks in half, Taylor as a tagger, Tucker as a Swiss army knife, Sanders as an inside mid etc.

I think it's automatically a more dangerous team than we've put on the park at any point this year. It is heaps young but

We are going to need better chf/kpf coverage than Comben and CCJ. Going to have to recruit or draft at least one, alongside kpds.
Here's where the Matthew McGuinness plan comes into play

Alternatively double down on salary cap dumps and get Haynes + GWS' first. Play Haynes as a forward & draft Caddy with GWS' first. There's your heated seat my friend

I like a lot of this but I think we really need Ralphsmith and/or Fisher types to unlock Thomas and Sheezel. Fundamentally I think defence is by far our worst staffed section of the field now, and it would be remiss of us to not find a skerrick of draft capital for good experienced running defenders this off season.

Josh Goater grows 3 inches in the off-season or we re-employee Luffy to crunch the Moneyball numbers?..

There isn’t a reality where this isn’t a shit hot team to put in the park.

Hollands has looked slow af - I wouldn’t be trading a f1 for him.
Got to be Flanders

We all know we won’t trade our f1 - so it’s a moot point
I watched Hollands closely in the GC ressies a few weeks back against Port Melbourne.

They were playing him exclusively on a wing. Really didn't get a lot of it and didn't look quick at all unfortunately. Worked hard both ways though.

Sharp looked a lot more likely on the other wing.

As much as I love Goldy.

It's time.
Risky unless we can trade in a ready made ruck. If we don’t do that and let Goldie go then we will essentially be playing with vfl/no ruck, which could work for us if that’s part of the new game plan I gues but TBH I think we keep him unless we have a bonafide ruck replacement 👍
