Did some rough calculations / guesstimations:
Let's say Cunners was on $600k for his final 2 yr contract (mutual agreement to pay out 50% of 2024 coin).
Jack Z would have been on $600k
Hall $400k.
(Haven't included Ben McKay @ say $450k but will include his compo pick assuming he's gonski).
There's $1.3m freed up in 2024.
Pick 2,3 &16 will come in at Max $150k (if they all have a Sheezel type year).
I'll assume all the outgoing players salary will closely align with any incoming trades.
Point of this all is that we will clearly have enough coin to satisfy Haynes on $1m x2yrs if they'll give us one of their top picks to clear up their books.

Careful now, you don't want melts like this making their way back to the hawks board.

are there any other salary dump players (players on more than they should be at this point of their career)
other than Haynes and Grundy who i'd happily take if they want to come

Grundy is signed until 2027. There is so amount of picks that a club could send us for me to want to take that ‘dump’. He’s already deteriorating before our very eyes and will hinder our ability to manage the cap in future years.

Hayes, sure, he expires end 2024. Easy to manage.

McKay is an restricted FA, which means he is in top 15% of paid players at the club this year. He is on more the 450k

You’d also have to convince someone who likely to be playing off in a gf soon, who’s being paid a million a year in a top four team, who doesn’t hurt Melbournes salary cap in anyway so it’s not even like they’d want him to go.
That his future lies with a team that’s won what 9 games in four years?

Melbourne will drop him again soon

They don’t play well with Gawn and Grundy in the same team it reduces games effectiveness

But anyway the point is are there any other salary dump options? Not to keep discussing the 2 well known ones

I think we need to be careful trading next year’s 1st into this year, e.g. with Gold Coast. With GC academy players and hopefully band 1 McKay compo and Sanders to us, you’re talking the 8th / 9th best player this year for probably the 2nd / 3rd best player next year.

The guy is 30 and is on a million year till end of ‘26.
Be realistic, unless we are seriously in contention, he wouldn’t even take our calls, look elsewhere.
again my q was not around those 2 (but pies are paying 300k, dees paying 600k, if dees want him out he'd take a call from anyone willing to pay the 600k portion for 4 years)

it was who are the other salary dump options around the league (players on more than they should be), feel free to chime in with an option or 2

Bigfooty in a nutshell.😁
Truth be told, my intel is a second hand source from over 2 months ago. A lot has obviously changed since then. Fwiw, there is a lot of interest from most Victorian clubs a few months back.

Is there anyone they're not bloody favourites for?
Sustained success, coupled with years of Kennett leadership, have led to a a culture at the Hawks of them and their fans feeling entitled to get whatever they want. It's tempting at such times to want to believe in Karma, but of course in reality arrogance leads to success.

It is interesting that they are predicting a weaker draft next year when usually it’s “next year is a super draft”. Still, we’d want to be careful forecasting talent 12 months out and trading say the 2nd best player next year for the 8th best player this year.

That's were the skill lies, you need to determine if the 8th best this year, is better than the second best next year.

The GC pick now would be the 6th pick, if we get pick 3 for McKay.

We could have a top 4 in a tier that we rank equal to a top 2 pick next year and one of those top 4 could be available at pick 6.

If we're trading a F1st you'd want a killing for it. Something like our F1 for GC's pick 4 & Flanders- it'd be odds on to be pick 1 again.

Could let us finish up with:

Out: 2, F1, ~15
In: 1 (Reid), 3 (Watson), 5(O'Sullivan), Sanders & Flanders

If GC beats us in the last round they’ll probably have pick 5 (if Freo loses it’s last two). A Walter bid, compo for McKay and Sanders off the board would mean we’re down to the 8th best player. Possible a top 4 player on our board slips that far, but it’s getting into big gamble more than calculated risk territory.

I hate jokes that aren't backed up by copious amounts of research and fact checking. It's the reason my chickens all got run over.
Were they Sacred Chickens perchance?
Might help explain a few things like our performance over the last few seasons, the existence of Ralph Babet, Warlord and his uncomfortable relationship with his hamstrings..

I put this one up a while back, take Zac Williams dump off Carlton, throw in Zac Fisher for a return of not much. Gives them room to take Mckay and get us band 1 compo.

edit:Fisher and Williams out also gives them salary space to bring in Gresham

Particularly interesting considering the amount of underage AA's.

The Vic Metro midfield was also carried by it's younger players.

I can see this being completely off the mark in 12 months.
