All not contracted next year except Greenwood who apparently has triggered contract clause for next year. Plus Cunnington retirement. Can't see hardly any of those players at the club next year. That's a lot of players

Let’s hope most of them are gone.

It will hurt our skill and talent levels if he leaves, but will improve our character and integrity levels.
I'll agree with you there. But at what point do you grit your teeth and try and keep the talent you have? Can we even afford to lose his talent with this group of players?

He's been the most talented player on our list since probably Wells. But if he's a bad egg, or doesn't want to be there, we're better off without him at this crucial time for the club when we need to build a solid cultural foundation for our next tilt

Shiels will be there.

Would Free get the flick after just one year? We clearly need rucks, so if they don't secure another mature age ruck, he might get a reprieve.

So what do you have that convinces you he will be there next year? And don't say a contract because they're not worth anything these days.

  • he’s playing the best footy of his career
  • he’s clearly engaged with his teammates onfield - see him picking them up off the ground or hugging Larkey like he wants to spoon
  • he seems engaged with his team mates off field going to watch the vfl last week
  • contract does mean something as it’s a legally binding agreement. Sure he can request a trade but if it’s not in our interest we can say no

Flanders had I think 10 d in the first 10 m of the match, unbelievable.
North, just get him.

Flanders (+ Salary), Pick 5>North
F1+2023 3rd, 2023 4th>Gold Coast

Goater Corr Reid/Curtin

Scott Davies-Uniacke Flanders
Xerri Sanders Wardlaw

Sheezel Larkey Thomas

+Sanders
+O’Sullivan (pick 5)
+Watson (pick 3)
+Curtin/Reid (pick 2)
+A.Reid/Caddy/McCabe/Edwards (Poort)

Bit of AA action going on here... fill the team with inside mids and play them out of position so can fit them all in

And here's hoping that the replacements are very much better and or have a much higher ceiling
Theirs not much of a ceiling to exceed in that lot.
Cut them all

The problem with cutting up to 16 players in one hit is that you won't bring in 16 good players in one draft. Of course, we only get to replace 12 of them. We have to cut 4 without replacements due to the 2 long term injury top ups and the 2 additional listings we were granted as a concession last year. We may or may not keep that concession. But still, 12-14 selections in a draft is a lot when most of these selections would be passed over by every other club. We'd be taking on quite a few rookie list type players along with delisted free agents.

I feel like we’ll let go of about 14 including Magoo. That leaves us having to bring in ten.

Five or six from the draft including Sanders, a couple of rookie picks and another two or three from trade/DFA.

If the new regime are any good they should be able find enough from that to take us forward.

I still think this trade has merit.

Say we end up with pick 2 & 3. (McKay leaves). We promise GC that we won’t bid on Walter with 2.

Trade pick 3 & Future 3rd to GC for Flanders & 5.

Might not seem fair, but if GC get ahead of the Walter bid they essentially end up with an additional first rounder top 5 pick (for Flanders) that they would never have had.

They get Walter & McKercher/Duursma

We get:

Flanders
Pick 2: Reid/Curtin
Pick 5: Watson
