It's not overs at all.

He's just kicked over 50 goals as a 21/22 year old. How many other key forwards have done that?

He's also just in the first few months of that 4 year deal. I'd say it's a very good contract for the club.
I would rate it one of the best signings we have ever done , a young dynamic key marking forward who is already just about the best contested mark in the AFL -we are bloody lucky to have him , suppose we had to have a change of luck sometime.

Collingwood is reportedly targeting star Suns forward Ben King, however it’s believed if he departed Gold Coast, it’d be to team up alongside twin brother Max at St Kilda.

King is set to be one of the most in-demand stars when he comes out of contract at the end of the 2024 season after signing a two-year extension with the Suns last year.

And according to AFL journalist Tom Browne, the Magpies have launched a bid for the 22-year old’s services

“Collingwood is, my understanding, chasing Gold Coast’s Ben King,” Browne said on Triple M.

“But my information this week is that King is more likely to stay at the Gold Coast, or play with his brother Max.

Collingwood aren't going to outbid the Gold Coast ( Neither are the Saints ), so its down to the usual, "you can play for Collingwood" "COLLINGWOOD"!!!! to get him in the door.

And despite being twins, Max and Ben are very different players too.

Also worth noting that if we continue to improve those first round picks won't be picks in the top ten, they'll be pushed out.

I think we got very lucky that Phillipou made it to 10 last year. The chances of getting another one like him if we ruse up the ladder will drop significantly.

If we were a bottom 6 side I'd me more worried about trading out first round picks but not if we manage to finish top 6.

Max is only on 750k
We offer both Max and Ben 800k for the next 6 years. Club power brokers buy a 5 bedroom house in Brighton for the king family to live in and sell it back to them for 150k. It’s not a Cotton on or a farm near the beach but it’s a start.

It's not massive overs due to his potential but we have paid him well to lock him away. Next time he's not going to want the same money, especially if he turns into the player we hope he does. Tom Lynch is meant to be on $1 million per year.

I reckon Tom Lynch would be what we hope Ben King gets to and you imagine that's his projected pay in a couple of years, perhaps even now.

It would be interesting to see how many goals Max kicks once we get him back under Lyon. 90% of our forward entries seemed to go through Max last year. Lyon's system either gets his scoring up or it could push it down if we spread the load.
Tom Hawkins has been paid 300k a year for the the last 5 years…..there are other ways to pay players.

Don’t for once think Ross hasn’t discussed plans to ‘reimburse’ families outside the cap. The Cats are the best at doing this and Toss has referenced their off cells work plenty over the last 6 weeks.

These guys might help…

Embracing the Carlton way are we boys?

Visy sell brown paper bags don't they?

(Asking for a friend)

The reason Visy could do it , was they were a privately owned company.
Not many privately owned companies would have that kind of money to toss around.

Most organisations would have a board going " Environmental Ambassador , show me the business case for this expenditure ".

“So I would have thought Collingwood are outsiders in that regard at this stage.”

Tom Browne’s Mail On Ben King’s Future
Great work browne, what outstanding breaking news this is
Welcome to this year ya ****ing wally

I remember getting slammed for not buying into the hype of Sharman last year. Now looking likely to get delisted

Yeah
We have a habit of delisting players who are contracted while making the emerg list most weeks

Hes stuffed

People will disagree with me but I would be looking to let Gresh go if you can get good compensation. Chase a player like Lachie Shulz or Alex Sexton to replace him via trade. We pick up a good pick in the draft and plenty of cap space.

Gresh thinks he is a mid but lacks defensive running and ball use which in does all he is good at. As a small forward I feel the two I mentioned can do the same job on less than half the money.

Freo are a team going nowhere. Can’t kick goals and it’s not like there’s a bunch of young guys coming through who will kick them eventually, I’d be in the ear of Brayshaw and Serong trying to convince one of them to come home.

I think they went backwards to go forwards in the future. Jackson isn't ready to make much of an impact yet and Lobb was their leading goal kicker by a huge margin. As much as people don't rate Acres he was doing a Mason Wood last year and was getting ranked the second best wingman in the competition. I think they are hoping that Jackson becomes a better version of Lobb and that one of their kids develops into an elite wing.

They had a pretty patchy list even last year. I think there was a bit of over achieving- they were around our level but fixturing and smaller injury list got them into finals.

Jackson was a crazy deal for a player they didn’t need, lesson for the get bing crew.

They royally stuffed up if that was their plan because they’ve given up quality picks for a player they didn’t need. No point going backwards if you’re not going to reap the benefits of the picks when you’re down there. If I’m Brayshaw or Serong I’m not waiting 4-5 years for them to get their list in order.

I think it’s more of a lesson for the TDK crew. You can’t play two ruckmen if one of them can’t play forward, it usually ends up not working with one constantly in and out of the side.

And that right there is the Bing quandary for us being played out in real time. He'll cost a fortune at the trade table, is the juice worth the squeeze?

It’s a little bit different with Jackson because he’s a ruckman and Freo already had one. At least with Ben King we’d be getting a superstar forward. I wouldn’t be all in on him yet but not sure the quandary is exactly the same.
