2015 Oleg Markov 27, Draft late pick. Howe, 31 Trade.
2014 Jack Crisp, 29 traded along with 2 first rounders for Dane Beams. Brayden Maynard, 26, Draft pick 30. Darcy Moore Draft , first round. Degoey 27, Draft pick 5. Mason Cox, 32 Rookie. Frampton 26, Draft late pick.

2008 Sidebottom 32, Draft pick 11.

So they have 19 draft picks from 18 years of drafting, inc 2 Father sons, and an NGA, and 4 rookie picks.
One free agent.
4 trades, + the dodgy prelisting thing.

Compare with Saints this year.

Three free agents.
8 Trades .
17 Draft picks from 13 years of drafting , including 2 NGA, and 5 Rookie picks.
They must be on the gear.

Some turnip said after the finals loss we should trade Phillipou as he had no tools.

FMD I know who the tool was[emoji849]. The kid is 18, should be getting drafted only this year.
Some absolute spanners post on here.

Why don’t you just name them then?
Usually on the money and not afraid to acknowledge making a wrong call or the odd emotional response to a finals loss.

Exactly. This is why its a bit tiring with how quickly some of our players in the 21 - 24 range are written off on here.

Lol at Hawks where they showed no loyalty to club father/son Josh Kennedy.

Son and Grandson of revered clubman, they ditched him because after a whole 2 years, he only occasionally got 26 disposals, or 14 contested possessions.

So anyone else thinking that GWS will win the whole damn thing?
Wouldn’t mind it actually.
Giants / Lions GF - what a riot. 🤣
AFL will go into mourning.

Question is, why did he feel out of joint and want to leave?

Gold coast was offering him a lot more then we were and a 4 year contract to boot. Even if he was super bros with the coaches he would be dumb not to jump at the guaranteed money Gold Coast was offering.

Didn’t he say something about being moved around too much, wanting to play down back

I think so, and we had Connolly, Clark, Coffield, Hill, Jones, Sinclair, who all seemed to like to play down back.
Long did ok there but didn't get the ball enough, and wasn't good on the rebound.

Richo, " I want the next Cyril "
Reply should have been, he's not here, instead got Long. Despicable drafting.
Players taken after Long were Parfitt, Fisher, Lipinski, and Bolton.

You're telling us we are about to go into another short rebuild and finals aren't guaranteed. We still look a way off and going back into a mini rebuild....again. Selling good players off to draft kids again. Watching Carlton win another final has me very triggered. They are the only joy that I get from football most years. Like uncontrollably pissing yourself but at least they had severe irritable bowel syndrome that made them s**t themselves in public and made us feel better about ourselves.
Stavro is spot on
Anyone expecting to play finals again next year shouldn’t. There is a chance but it’s a 50/50.
The list obviously needs a mini rebuild
Carlton have been building their list for nearly 30 years, saints 12years
Not comparable

Funny how peeps always look at the "successes" taken after our pick but forget all the misses taken before and after the Pick.

Sam Petrevski-Stevens Pick 6 (Delisted)

Dan Venables Pick 13 (Retired)

Cedric Cox Pick 24 (Delisted)

Ben Long Pick 25 (94 games - still playing)

Sam McLarty Pick 30 (Zero games)

Joe Atley Pick 32 (4 games)

There is no one way to do anything, evidenced by the flip-flopping of the plan. 2 years ago we were fully topping up. Then when we got talent from our NGA kids, we did a full U-turn and went back to trading out the exact type of players we'd just culled and spent a huge amount of trade capital and money putting together.

There is no reason why we can't keep doing both, using high picks at the draft, finding under-utilised talent at other clubs and state leagues etc.

Most good lists have got players from a variety of sources and trying to draft your way out from mid table only works when you absolutely arse a suite of stars and overachieve within a system design to not let you do that.

Port is the model of a club that has turned middlers into better players at the draft but they still haven't gone anywhere with it.

Having balanced sensible plans is the way to improve. Gresham and Howard I've gone off the idea of losing for picks. You sell fringe players who are too old or guys that you've identified that aren't going to make it or in a position that you are over stacked in if you want to get back into the draft.

Port did it from a much more built list to spring off too.

If we can get improvement in the right areas there's no reason we can't improve next year.

Getting a full season out of top quality Steele would be huge.

Then it's a question of which kids can go into the middle and impact.

We need to find two elite mids, then it'll fill out around them. Steele is the obvious one. I think Pou is the one to watch but doubt he gets there next year. Owens maybe? Windy?

It's sad that the minute there should be expectations on us and a want to at least repeat our output from this year, we revert back to 'we need to rebuild' mentality instead of actually facing those improved expectations.

There is no reason we should be going backwards. We've just played finals whilst pumping over 100 games into teenagers.

These kids should all improve next year no other player on the list has a reason to go backwards.
