I don't really understand the proposed Shiel deal.

We take him off Essendon's hands, what do we get in return?

How is it related to Gresham?

Can anyone clarify?
The “proposed deal” is that we provide a pick for Shiel. Taking him and his contract.

Essendon then trigger band 1 compo for Gresham

they pay gresham enough to get us band 1 compo if we take shiel

they get gresham and a token later pick
we get shiel and pick 13

Don’t see how getting rid of Gresham and getting in Shiel improves our list.
Gresham can go where he pleases if we aren’t prepared to match. Shiel is a very good stop gap two year player and the pick will hopefully deliver the young mid we need. I never wanted Shiel at the original asking price but he still walks into our midfield and it makes sense to add a player like him imo.

And for the record…

I’m not saying I knew about the proposal the HSun has written about.

Just the below, which is some of what I’ve shared.

  • we have wanted multiple picks in this first round (2-3)
  • Happy to let Gresham and Howard go to facilitate
  • found out we liked Shiel and he was gettable at the start of the week

- there could be another contracted player we are keen on, but I don’t know if that was referring to shiel or another.

- Membrey Paton Clark Billings Coffield are the other ones I mentioned are all gettable weeks ago.

So abit to play out.

We definitely need to upgrade our kicking skills so I've been keeping a close eye on one player in particular - former high draft pick, captain of his underage team, been playing mainly off the hbf in the AFL but could run through the midfield, still only 23.

Currently not getting a regular game at his side but has a DE of 82% across his career.

He won't cost a lot - two year contract should do it - best thing - we won't even need to get him a jumper.
We can inly rely on the coaching group to determine his value. They would probably be in the best position to know.

Let's be perfectly blunt, Dylan Shiel is a net negative for a football team. If anyone at the club thinks he is any level above bad they should no longer be at the club.
However, I will personally drive him to moorabin if he is involved in a deal that gets us pick 13.

Also my 2 cents. Trying to paint the picture for you all this morning.

We want Sanders.

Would not surprise me in the slightest if this wider/overall deal with Essendon nets us their pick 8.

So something like Gresham/Pick 13/pick 31

For Shiel/Pick 8

Shiel was supposed to be on 6 x $800K when he went to Essendon so lets say we add an extra year @ $400K to his contract for a very late pick to Essendon as a salary dump.

Then the Dons offer Gresh 3 × $800K and we get Band 1 compo.

Lose Gresh and a late pick - gain Shiel and Pick 13 for nil net impact on the salary cap.

Works for me.

Sign him up!

And a distal bicep, which I did early this year and it's a bastard of an injury and takes a long time to recover from - what's interesting is its an injury that generally happens in your 30's and 40's. My understanding is that's a rare thing for someone in their 20's to do, but obviously not impossible.

It was a biceps femoris injury which is a hamstring. I’m assuming yours was the biceps brachii tendon near your elbow which as you said happens most commonly in males 35-55 years of age.
