What do you reckon was the problem with Adams- seems to me like a player who just needed more time for development. Maybe the club is falling back into the quick fix mentality?

No they got us into the finals this year.

Good list management would be to target someone like Liam Henry to replace Hill.
So we finish 7th with a really good draw, then get soundly beaten by a side that snuck into the 8 in round 24.
It was exciting making the finals but that sides not going to cut it.
Fremantle will ask for 2 first rounders for Henry going off previous dealings.

Hear me out…

With Hawks keen on Gresh and looking to potentially offload Grainger-Barras, could we.

Match whatever bid comes for Gresh and trade him to Hawks for DGB (obviously other picks and stuff involved)

Then we offload Howard to Essendon for their pick 27.

Then package up 12, 27 & 31 to Gold Coast for pick 4 and a future 2nd round pick?

Use that future 2nd to bring in Liam Henry.

Lose - Gresh, Howard, pick 12, pick 31
Gain - DGB, Henry, pick 4
I saw Gubby in a cafe last weekend and he was actually happy to chat to me. Apparently this is exactly what they're gonna do..

You cannot expect every pick to work out.

2021 is however shaping up to be an outstanding haul for us, and even moreso as the picks we had available were not that flash. 2021 is an outperform draft year. It already looks to have gain us two future stars , and two at worst solid players . If every year was like 2021 we would be a in a fantastic state.

2021
pick 11 -Wanganeen - Milera - Amazing year. He looks a likely AA player, and could even become our best player.

pick 33 - Owens - Ditto!

pick 47 - Windhager - I am still not sure what his level will be, but as a minimum will be a decent player for us.

pick 51 - Adams / delisted this year - Never really showed more than flashes.

Mid season draft - pick 7 - Heath - Too early to say, but for a big young ruckman is showing promise and ok progress. It is very handy that he is an excellent goalkicker for a ruckman. Still not there yet, though.

pick 20 - Sharman - Acted on Lyon's feedback that he needed to be more versatile (eg be able to play as a defensive forward, wing etc) and when he came back into the team played excellent football, and good team oriented football at that.

The Category B rookies of Peris and Kyle are both now gone. But Cat B rookies are highly speculative pics anyway. Hopefully our Irish Cat B pick in the coming period will bring us some success.

I think future picks would be better this year. Only trade for picks for the players we need (Henry) and keep our first rounder. Getting a future first for Dougal might be the better outcome.

If Elwood Peckett shapes as a superstar, the AFL will probably change the rules on us at the last minute.
no i think there saving that come time for the riewoldt boys and maybe a season where certain other clubs arent affected, then when the swans lions cats etc are affected again, then the outrage from the saints will help change the rules back for them

thats how it will go

Next year is seen as a midfielders draft so we MUST hold onto our future first!
Also, Elwood Peckett & Boston Everett are eligible for father son if they’re good enough
Just having a look & see Gillon Wakelin (son of Darryl) is also eligible for us & Port

No coincidence Melbourne have lost 4 finals in a row with 'cho in the coaching mix.

The list is a little overrated, they have some absolute A graders and some pretty ordinary players mixed in but more importantly they aren’t a great fit like Gawn and Grundy. It’s a real mixed bag up forward and they invested too much in Brown and Grundy for very little return.

I commented on him a few weeks ago. Just didn’t look up to it. After two years you should be starting to look pretty good at vfl level even if a young tall. Some very good players are only ever good enough for vfl. He had excuses, so it’s a little harsh in one sense, but I’m glad we’re making calls when we need to.

So we have both then - Hill and Wood.

Acres has taken 23 years, two sackings and several coaches to get to the point when he decided to stop waltzing around the wing and gazing up into the sky trying to decide which cloud he might hit with his next kick.

As for James Jordon - mid who doesn't get to play mid all the time in one of the better midfields in the league but still played 65 of the last 75 games for Melb including every game in their premiership year.
Even last week he was 50% disposal efficiency.

Okay. Wood had a great start to the season and levelled out. Acres has been BOG in two finals and a big part of Carlton's turn around. Acres has 5 to 6 years left. Wood has one or two.

There's only two years between them. Shouldn't necessarily be that much of a difference in years left. That's usually down to a few other things including how injury prone they are. We've got Mason right after an entire career of injuries - although that shoulder is worrying.
