No it would be Gresham for Shiel and 13 (Gresham Compo)

We give them Gresh and enough of his salary to ensure we get Band 1 when added to what they pay him

They give us Shiel and we get 13 as compo..still keeping 12.

I know trade season is always full of dumb suggestions but that is so incredibly favoured towards Essendon not even Gold Coast would do it.

Shiel can play and if he cost nothing he's good enough player to take best 22 spot but he is a walking injury and has done FA since being at the Dons. He's worth what ever Billings is worth as an actual player IMO. Which is basically nearly a delisted free agent. He's such a gamble that you'd want to take on his wage only and get him free.

We have no walk in backup for Steele, and Shiel is at least an experienced senior midfielder and could easily do what Gresh 2023 has been doing but probably better.

Isn’t the idea that we take Shiel and his remaining salary, approx $800k for next season, which then would essentially be absorbed by their Gresham contract and not eating into their existing reported $2M deal of cap they have.

Wouldn’t that be why Essendon do it?

More than happy to pay Shiel the one year of salary he’s owed if we get the compo pick that’s reported.

If he comes across, his additional years won’t be on that same salary he’s on now with us. Think he gets his full $800k year one than probably $450-500 each of the next two years.

We may even front load a bunch of it into next season as well.

Exactly People are misunderstanding. WE get 13 and Shiel , they get Gresham and part of his salary paid by us. In effect we are paying for his compo pick to be Band 1. Essendon DO NOT get a pick from us. Gresh is a FA remember

Is it that we give them both our firsts (Gresham and natural FRD pick) for 8 and we take Shiel off their books to pay Gresham more? I'd rather have the 2 first round picks.
