Correct. We'd be spoon winners for the next 5 years. No thanks.
Top 10 picks aren’t the panacea to our desperation for talls, particularly in this draft. They’ll take 5 years to develop too.
Just look at North.

This board also declares any tall doing moderately well at VFL level the future. It's bizarre that people are arguing 'but McCabe and Dear!!!' as though they are both 22-23 and ready to take senior footy by the scruff.
If we had a forward line of Dear (as promising as he very much is) and Chol as the primary targets then there are going to be some very fun gameday/autopsy threads for a few years.
Pies will be off loading a few at years end.
Half the team is in their 30's or just about to be.
Mihocek should be our target.
Compare both Lewis and Mihocek stats and Brody is much better and lays tackles !!
Kicks more goals than Lewis and has a sound body.
Make it happen Hawks !
Just won a flag and brings knowledge and maturity.

Don’t put the idea of trading the picks on for out of contract players. No thanks.

I think I'll log out of BF and come back in 5 years if we trade Lewis. It would be essentially waving the white flag on the current list strategy and starting again.
Would only make sense if we were on trading for another tall to replace him, and I just can’t see any of worth being available or agreeing to join us as the savior(which is what they’d need to be with only Chol and a couple of kids in reserve).Don’t put the idea of trading the picks on for out of contract players.
I would hope Melbourne's team is a tad smarter
SO DID OMEARA!!! We paid up due to potential, maybe Melbourne will due to their window closing? So the reason he holds no real value to a side that needs key talls is the reason another side will pay top dollar?
Makes no sense.
He’s either dependable and required by us, or he’s not and other clubs will see it that way too.
Lewis won’t play this week.I would hope Melbourne's team is a tad smarter
But they also said no to 2 first from Adelaide for Harrison Petty
Don’t even consider it.SO DID OMEARA!!! We paid up due to potential, maybe Melbourne will due to their window closing?
We don't do it for peanuts.
You would think not, but….It's more the fact that Melbourne would never offer two top 10 picks for an injury prone forward.
And we split one of the picks or one of our picks.you'd def have a look if there were good talls in the first round this year.
is it at all worth asking if our strength and conditioning team is actually up to scratch ? Players like Lewis and CJ are constantly injured, our players get outrun by every opposition, and broken tackles as well as being pushed aside in a contested mark situation is a constant theme.
It seems the consensus view is we, as a team need more young talent.. anyone who doesn’t share that view isn't watching closely.. Also note, anytime it’s suggested we trade a decent player to get an opportunity to draft in high end young talent a lot of people lose their minds.. Maybe Lewis isn’t the player to trade but we need to regenerate our list and one high pick per year doesn’t seem to be working.. Our problems are exacerbated by the fact some young players haven’t come on and our some senior players have gone backwards.. We’re in an awkward position. We need to be bold to move forward..I think the only time it would really make sense to even look at trading Lewis is if our conditioning team believe we won’t able to consistently get him onto the park.
Even then it would take a big offer, plus Lewis wanting to leave for it to eventuate.
Seems incredibly unlikely it would happen.
I see what you are saying and mostly agree. But we are about to have Gunston be our key forward this week so are we really any better off? It's bizarre that people are arguing 'but McCabe and Dear!!!' as though they are both 22-23 and ready to take senior footy by the scruff.
