Jo has kicked 60 odd goals just about every year. If Smith has the year Morris has just had we'd all be over the moon. Morris kicked 24 goals, less than half Jo's. It's unreasonable to expect Henry to get anywhere near Jo's output.

Ollie Lord, Samson Ryan, Lynch, Fogarty. We can pick up on of these with next years first. If not we play Smith and need a Day or someone of that ilk to play VFL and come in as backup in the event of injury.

Lord and Samson Ryan are not worth future firsts, and I’d be hesitant to give one up for Lynch at this stage of his career.

Fogarty would cost more than a single first round pick.

I wonder what a realistic expectation for Logan Morris second season will be. He'd have 30+ if he played all games this year, but think he can push 40 with a strong pre season. For me, his natural ability will get him far and it's all about getting his strength up to a point the bigger bodied defenders can't completely blanket him.
I don’t want to put any expectations on Morris.

He’s a young third tall, in a team that just lost it’s spearhead KPF.

Teams are going to put extra work in to nullifying Hipwood and Morris, as that will also take away our ability to bring the ball to ground and bring our small forwards in to the game.

Yeah I think a few in here and especially in the media are underestimating just how important Joe was to us.

Would any of the options raised internally or externally have been able to take that mark on Taylor to win the game for us? It would be unfair to expect that, but it’s highlighting the type of match winner we’re looking at replacing here.

Throwing a ruckman forward hoping for the best or hoping a 2nd year under size key forward can perform miracles, could open us up to disaster imo.

That’s not even taking into consideration any injuries, which are par for the course and will hit at some stage.

Club will have a plan though.

I agree with all of this but I don't think we have a realistic chance of getting an external replacement close to Joe this season. So we've got to recalibrate how we play more so than that.

I do agree, however you're forgetting that Morris plays 4D chess and eats KPD for breakfast.

I suspect Logan will find it a lot harder without Joe taking the #1 defender and Joe covering so much territory dragging defenders all over the place.

Morris needs another year as the 3rd tall otherwise he is unlikely to average 1.3 games like in his debut year.
Hopefully 5 on the bench next year that way Henry Smith gets a good run of games in 2025. Ruck and forward relief.
Much prefer him over Fort as he is more versatile.
Lions players considered for that KPF position: Gardiner & Doedee when available and Joyce.
Another young player but risky is Luke Lloyd 193cm/84kg. Started forward then defense then wing at VFL level.

I have no idea what the club has in mind trade wise so will just look at the players available without costing us a draft pick.
They are at the moment Tim Membrey, Sam Day, Levi Casboult and Matt Taberner
Offer a 2-year deal for the 2 interstate players and just one for the two Suns players.
Membery would be my choice without knowing his character etc.

The dockers fans say Taberners back is shot, Membrey probably wont leave Melbourne do you recall him being a very late withdrawal from a Saints finals side 2 years ago?, was all hush hush but something akin to anxiety issues.

We’ve gotta be prepared to see Morris regress next year. Particularly if he’s getting better defenders. Henry Smith looks a likely type so I can see him doing a job and getting better as the year progresses. If he can clink marks he will kick 30+ goals in the year if he plays 20 games.

Protecting Morris development has to be factored in with potential changes to the forward line. Going in with Hipwood/Logan as our keys still doesn’t solve the 2nd ruck issue either.

While it won’t matter as much against the lower teams, versing a GWS they’ll likely be going against Taylor and Buckley, which is far from ideal. It may give other teams the ability to play a key player a bite loose as well.

I’m unsure if Henry is the answer, but I’m all for filling Joes void with that type of player.

Membery may think Fagan would be the type of coach that may help his issues should they still exist.
Getting away from the Saints and Ross Lyon may be a blessing for some players
That issue you mentioned was 2 years ago though, hopefully he got help in this area of mental health.

The list is short, apart from those 4 we would be looking at a mature age player very late in the national draft or rookie draft.
In my opinion the club does need to bring in a KPF. It may just be for depth while we are still in a premiership window.
An injury to Hippy or Morris would be a big problem with the present players available or not available early 2025.

We've just won a flag off the back of players whom many questioned as being able to play permanently well enough for us to feature this year but who blossomed and gained confidence with a run of games in a specific role.

Answerth ,Lester ,Ah Chee , Lohman ,Fletcher, Morris . Even Zorko . Joyce was doing ok before Payne came back.

From what I've seen of Smith he just needs experience and I'd be prepared to take the punt on him without busting the bank or getting hold of a has been. He's also a very level headed and intelligent young man . We mightn't know what we have there until we back him with a run of games .

Hi guys - I hope you don't mind the intrusion.

I doubt it happens, but if Lynch (plus a big chunk of his salary for 1 year) went to Brisbane, do you have a player that might be a good fit for us (needs to be under 25)?

It's a shame Sam Day got smashed with injuries. Had so much potential as a player.

Not many yet to debut 25 year olds stay on lists

Yeah it's a hard ask especially when he's basically remained injured for most of his contract. I hope we can sneak him into our VFL team.

It's not as if they're overflowing with choices in his role so the issue is getting him on the park I'd imagine.

Yeah ,I'd love him back in the VFL team.

Agree with you if the AFL sticks to 4 plus a sub in 2025.
Indications early this year was that in 2025 they would have 5 on the bench.
It is the AFL though, so they don't usually do what is obvious to everyone else.

Should the AFL go 5 on the bench and with Jo retiring i see Henry Smith getting the bench ruck/forward relief role.
Henry Smith is 206cm and 98kg came on in leaps and bound in 2024. Natural improvement should be expected again.
Smith only turned 22 in September. Has been on our list since 2021 so a few preseasons under his belt now.
He played 4 AFL games this year as ruck relief and was subbed off two times.
His best game was v Saints. Had 11 disposals, 1 mark, 11 hit outs, 3 center clearance and 2 stoppage clearances.
He is ruck relief in the VFL to Fort and Lane but did get a few games as sole ruck.
Smiths average stats over his 14 games at VFL level.
Disposals 16, marks 5, hit outs 21, tackles 3.5, goals 1.2

Jarryd lyons as an experienced mid
Carter Michael and James madden up and comers to replace Rioli.

Those 3 for lynch and Richmond pays 65% of lynches contract.

This offer is on the table for the next 20 minutes.
