They could of picked Sheezel instead of trading that pick to get 2 possible B class type players
Except Sheezel was marked with the same "not leaving Victoria" tag before the draft like Archie Perkins, Bailey Smith, Tanner Bruhn,... Harley Reid. 🤣

Can you imagine the melts after they took Sheezel and Reid back to back and they both request trades at the end of their first contracts, it would have been pretty funny.

I remember personally being flat that we missed out on Dylan Stephens and instead we had to draft some small slow plodding mid/fwd... Caleb Serong

I thought Stephens would have the higher ceiling, but Serong is a great leader. If I was at BHP, RIO etc... I'd head hunt Serong for a General Manager role. His leadership potential is ridiculous.

I got Serong totally wrong.

Why didn’t we draft mannagh was literally the perfect player for us this year
Differing priorities is the reality. Geelong have the 2nd oldest and the most experienced list, we have the 4th youngest and 2nd least experienced list. Mature agers that maximised 2024's list in Lawson Humphries and Shaun Mannagh made a lot more sense for Geelong to take a pop on than us, especially considering the Jackson trade nerfed 2 drafts for us.

Over the past 2 years, Cooper Simpson is our 2nd highest pick (only Hugh Davies was higher). Using that pick on Mannagh would've been too risky an all-in move, especially considering how highly the club rated Simpson. Obviously right now you look at Geelong and think "those picks were the right move for them and great talent ID + risk taking". Hopefully in a year or 2, we say the same about Cooper.

Cats have been taking mature age picks for a long time.

Maybe, we should do the same.

Martin is pretty crap isn't he?

No, he's just too fragile and too injured. He is the reason Carlton got so deep in finals. Quality and class player, just isn't fit enough long enough. At least not yet.

If we get him for free and for cheap salary he would be worth a risk.

The Kings Park pre-season runs will sort his hamstrings out.

I'd rather not throw him a lifeline when he chose to get swindled by Carlton over returning to WA before. Has averaged 9 games played in the last 4 seasons, hope he had fun.
By hope there is clearly given the state of the soft tissue injuries they've had, is that there fitness guy was past his use by date. We dont need Martin to be best 22 but he's actual handy best 30 if not injured. We can take a free bet to get a few years out of him

If Martin is free on a 1 year deal I think that’s fine.

Any more news regarding Bolton? Bit silent lately.
Silence is good in this case.

That Adam Cerra has posterior chain issues ALL season after barely if ever having an issue in 76 games at Freo, even playing near full years at Carlton prior to this one, makes me think their injury management might be similar to Gold Coast's
