Regardless of where you’re selected in the draft, players still have a lot to prove on the field first, and all draftees are considered 100% equal until they do. Would be more of a head scratcher to give one or our kids a special number in his first year, above all the other draftees this year and those who’ve come before.

Or do a limited edition signed jumper for them....

Which is why it was surprising that the cats did that on draft night

A one or two year proposition
Yes that’s a given. But it has never really been a transitional number like anything above 35 generally speaking. It’s awkward as it has a great history of players wearing it long term.

Reckon Watson ends up in the 1, the challenge has been set to Ginny with the number choice and it shows Sam putting huge amounts of trust in him. Gives Watson the challenge and comparison to Ginny because he knows Watson has the c you in the nt to deal with the challenge.

Love weddle in the 23, I’ve never seen many athletes like him but combine that with the skills he has for the game already and he will end up a game/generational defining player.

One of my all time favourites wore 44 with great distinction all of his career and as a consequence the number is forever associated with him. The same applies with 33.
Getting a number not associated with past legends gives a player the chance to “own” that number if they prove good enough to be a champion of the game. That may have some appeal to a new player rather than inheriting Lethal, Buddy, Cyril, Hodgy or the Rat’s old number.
Maybe the Wizard would like that opportunity.
