I disagree with this. When Beveridge started he played the talented kid, who contributed to our flag team. More recently we’ve been fielding players who were never going to make it while stalling the development of these types of players. Have a look at the 2016 season:
Caleb 19y.o 24 games
Williams 18 y.o 6 games
Dunkley 19y.o 17 games
Boyd 20 y.o 15 games
McLean 20 y.o 15 games
Cordy 19 y.o 9 games
Bont 20y.o 26 games
Play the kids so they can get up to speed I say.
There is a difference between playing people capable of delivering now versus players who might be capable of delivering some time in the future.
If they are capable of delivering immediately, as all those players you listed were, then great, play them. Our problem has been that many of the kids we have chosen to play recently haven't been capable of delivering straight away and we have given them many games based on little more than hope, and thinking they will magically repay the faith somehow.
The strategy of 'playing the kids' only works if those kids have sufficient talent and can also fit into a very strong framework of mature players to do the bulk of the hard work as well as guide them towards playing their individual roles adequately.
