Silvers was an "unknown" type who we got to perform a role that he'd never done before, based on him being from a Premiership club. He has been underwhelming, let's face it.

I know absolutely nothing about Davis, but he appears to be a perennial assistant coach who is now performing a role he's never done before, based on him being from a Premiership club.

If the only person we bring in for the football department in this offseason is Davis, and not someone like Balme, and while people like Dew are available, it's another underwhelming offseason. There's still time obviously.

Our football department is more important than who we bring in with future 2nd rounders.
Something you’ll find in common with successful teams, is they are filled with people who have experienced success - either as a player or as a coach. This is something we are sorely lacking.

It would certainly help to attract players if we could actually make the finals once in a while.
The trouble is that when that happens we're so enraptured with our players that we sign then all up on long term, high dollar deals. So we can't afford to splash the cash on recruits

I don't disagree - my point is, if the only offseason change is Davis in, that's not enough. But I would've sacked Nicks, so...

Have to wait and see on the presser for Davis where someone hopefully asks him what his actual role at the club will be.

I'm not so sure it's a position above Nicks overseeing him and more a guy who is there to oversee/work with the assistant/development coaches to free up more time for Nicks.
What you described in that 2nd paragraph is very similar to what Roo described on radio this morning.

Feels like we are trying to save face and indirectly make Nicks an 'assistant coach' without sacking him.

This feels like a very modern AFC thing to do here:

-Make a bungled rash decision like extending Nicks in March only for it to backfire and finish bottom 4
-To carefully 'stage manage' the situation to avoid sacking Nicks (so the likes of Silvers/Olsen/Kelly et al can continue to hold onto their gold pass roles and avoid serious egg on said faces) we now look to make some big 'off field' appointments.
-Try to land a big name in Graham Wright (to look like we are being 'aggressive')
-Appoint a lower profile 'assistant coach' from a premiership team and make him 'Coaching Director'
-If dont land any more of Wright, Dew, Montgomery etc fall back position to above point and say it was a 'huge coup'.

The sheer amount of off field window dressing going on at the AFC is amazing at the moment.
