Again - if you want to steal a top tier player away from a club, it's going to take $1m+.

That's just the market now.

He'd be getting that offered by St Kilda, so he's not leaving for less.
We stole 3 players this off season & none are near $1M per season.

Do you honestly think we should make NWM the highest paid player at AFC by a fair margin?

Peatling would be very analogous.
You should be really good at scrabble!

I did manage to once beat George Turner who use to edit the Australian version of the dictionary.

You're saying exactly my point!

None of the players we got in this off season were top tier. NWM is.

It WILL take $1m+ to prise away a top tier player from any club that has them.

Should we pay that for NWM, if he's a wing or HBF? I'm not sure.

No, I'm not saying your exact point.

Far from it!

Suggest you re-read what I said.

My point was - are we sure we should make NWM our top paid player?

That's the same point.

The question of whether we'd NEED to isn't relevant - because we will, if we want to steal him away. Comparing a top tier player like NWM to second and third tier players is pointless, because the salary cap means you would always pay your very best players a lot more.

In 2024, NWM averaged 25.7 disposals at 76.7% disposal accuracy and 520.3 metres gained from half back. As a 21 year old.

That's better than Rankine or Dawson.

I don't think he needs to be in the centre square to have an impact (and that's not his game).

The only question would be, do you want a 30+ disposal All Australuan half back with limited f50 numbers, or a 22+ disposal All Australian wing with significant f50 numbers?

Which do you think adds more to our premiership chances?

I don't know if he'll cost $1.2m, but the savings of not getting him won't help us win. I don't see the better quality centre square mid we're going to get insread of him (who would then send one of our existing mids to half back/ wing/ half forward to not play as well as NWM would have).

Devils advocate here, as I do like NWM, but DE stats for a loose checking half-back/winger aren't exactly a fair comparison against 2 guys who play their games under far greater pressure.

Clearly selling NWM the dream of replacing one of the Crows best player of all time (I'm not being sarcastic) in Laird at HB. NWM has potential to be a top tier so you wouldn't offer him $1M+ unless he make the AA team this year,

I know salary caps are going up but players have jumped quickly from $500-600k to $1.2m

We skipped $700k-$1m
I think St Kilda would offer NWM a contract in the $800k range.

I think it's reasonable to say he'd probably need $1m+ to move unless he really wanted out of the Saints

Sell the farm. Presumably we still have cap space even now. Will be watching him (and Goad now) with extreme interest all year.

Why jump the increase to $200K+ and make him the highest player on the list, offer him $50-$100K more and a longer contract then and there is news he want to come back home. Rankine and Dawson are the only 2 players who should be at $1M+ and unlikely we will be in a bidding war with Port Power like what happened with Lukosius last year unless they loss a player like Butters who is supposedly only on $800K.
