Pre-season training + Match Sim - Feb 9

Today was a special day. Not only did we get to see some decent amount of match sim, but as fans we had the opportunity to watch one of the drills from on the ground, up close to the players.

Players absent:

  • Sidey
  • Richards
  • DeMattia.

* Josh Daicos participated in everything, even some match sim. Probably half of that I would think.
*Murphy did some drills, no match sim as they hold him out for some reason.

The boys looked slick, good cohesion and connectability with one another. A real emphasis on handball quick chains through the middle, and not always bombing it on. But point eye to a leading target.

Match sim teams:

Black (Team A)

  • Lippa
  • JDG
  • IQ
  • Maynard
  • Elliott
  • Mitchell
  • JDaicos
  • Shultz
  • Noble
  • DC
  • Hill
  • Crisp
  • Reef
  • Moore
  • Beau
  • WHE
  • NDaicos
  • Markov
  • Howe
  • Mihocek
  • Cox

White (Team B)

  • Pendles
  • Carmichael
  • Kreuger
  • Allan
  • Frampton
  • Macrae
  • TJ
  • Eyre
  • Steene
  • Ryan
  • Harrison
  • Begg
  • Johnson
  • Dean
  • Bytel
  • Hustwaite
  • Sullivan
  • Teakle
  • Longmire (top up)
  • Long (Top up)

Its becoming clear that Reef is starting to be the preferred candidate to replace Mcstay. He played in the probables team alongside our usual forwardline.

Noble also played in team A, whether this was because Murphy didn't participate, who knows. WHE played wing.

Lippa was also on Team A, and going by this, he aint going anywhere, He was profolific in the middle, and kicked a goal on the run from 50. Was involved in a lot of chains.

Nick was brilliant, him and Jordy look like they will go to a new level this year. Bring it on.

After Eyre went down, they put Dean up closer to goal, Howe went forward. Tried a few different things in the 2nd half. Beau in the middle. Fin forward.

Carmichael played on the wing, trying something different there too.

When Eyre did his hammy, it put a damper on the mood a bit, and they had to shuffle some things in the backline.

Kreuger for the white team looked really good, their best forward. He took marks, and kicks goals, but not in a reckless way. Gave me some hope we may see him again yet.

Johnson kicked a couple goals for Team B, then in the 2nd half, he switched.

Reef was outstanding with his leading, kicked a few goals and just looked really good playing in the black team.

While Fin played for the white team, he got a heap of the ball, and did brilliantly through the middle.

Thanks for all your work and effort reporting training over preseason Jen, it is much appreciated.

It is. I've never heard it used and had to look it up. It sounds like one of those American hybrid, awkward-sounding words though doesn't it? Like the dreaded 'normalcy'.
Fairly common term - often used to describe how two witnesses come up with completely different versions of what they both saw.

Thanks Jen, and I just saw your separate post about the match and jumper presentations. I suspect that only the SSP players chosen will be in attendance, so we'll know at 4:30, unless you've been given the mail already.

I do not condone piracy or getting paid stuff for free. Unless it's getting paid stuff for free from Rupe. And in that instance, you might just be able to go to https://archive.md with that link you just posted...

Collingwood’s No.25 draft pick Harry DeMattia will miss up to two months of his debut season after damaging a finger tendon, just as he was pushing for senior selection.

The Herald Sun understands DeMattia could miss up to 12 weeks with the injury, a blow for the former cricketer who chose footballlate in his draft year.

12 weeks 😫

As usual HS doesn't tell us anything we didn't already know or not know..

'It was a cruel blow for Eyre, who was in the running for a spot on St Kilda’s list last pre-season before copping a hamstring injury in late January.

The Saints ultimately decided not to sign Eyre but the club said at the time the hamstring injury didn’t impact that decision.

Eyre played nine games with Collingwood’s VFL side last year as a key defender and was delisted by Essendon in 2022 after not playing an AFL game.

The injury comes at a tough time for Eyre, with the Pies likely to make a call on who will fill their three open list spots next week, following an intra-club hitout on Wednesday.

Former Port Adelaide ruck Brynn Teakle is seen by some as a frontrunner for one spot, as a way to provide ruck insurance for Mason Cox and Darcy Cameron.

VAFA defender Sam Sofronidis has also impressed, while Footscray’s Lachie Sullivan has been handed plenty of midfield minutes at Pies training.

Former Saint Jack Bytel and Collingwood VFL captain Campbell Hustwaite have also been training.

Collingwood has played plenty of match simulation minutes in recent weeks and are expected to use the Wednesday game as further intel to make a call, with the February 19 deadline approaching for summer signings.'

and its the same article from saturday. Doesnt tell us anything new.

Honestly if he had done enough to convince them he's worth a spot, I don't see why they shouldn't take him.

He was unlikely to actually get a game in the first half of the season anyway (if at all this year).

Back our medical/fitness team to have him right to get some games in the VFL
