Big believer that Essendon needed to shoot for talent that could fall into that A+ tier. I am ever so happy we went with Robey as he fits that IMO. To a lesser extent Farrow does too (personally would've taken Taylor here but I like Farrow). Fine with Sharp to fill out the trio but I was very worried we were going to take him with pick one of our first two picks.

While I'd take Robey over Cumming, I do like what tigers did and respect their list team greatly for sticking to their guns. Really like Grlj as a prospect but I didn't trust Essendon would actually develop a type like his well, with where Richmonds list build is at I think he has a real shot at becoming a VERY good player.

Has someone got the net shake out from the Hawks trade moves handy? Seems like they cooked with all the live moves but haven't seen it on one page yet.

Blame Dodoro bloke was a fraud and couldn't id talent for shit.

Meanwhile Matt Rosa has only been in the job for 2 years and has already achieved way more in list building then Dodoro has in 20 plus years.
No wonder Rosa looked gutted when he had to announce to the media that the ZM trade wasn't going through.

He knows he's pretty good at his job. He wanted to cook.

Not by any means but if your choosing between 2 even players and one shares a position with a free agent you hope to target the smart thing is not to draft the guy and spend heaps of capital targeting one position making everyone unhappy

Weddle isn't a free agent.

Richmond finished 17th and our first pick was 7. Then to watch a team that finished 6th grab 2 players in the top 5 and 4 in the first Rd.
System is broken.

It’s almost like other clubs have just twigged to what Bassat has been saying for 12 months.

Wonder when the sycophantic AFL media will acknowledge the same and issue an apology ?.

Hows about when the eagles finished last and their second pick was 30ish

I noticed Sam Cumming was from Wentworth, and I know he boarded at Prince Alfred College in Adelaide, and plays in the SANFL at North Adelaide but why did he not represent the Allies at the Nationals? What are the rules around which state you play for? does anyone know?

St Kilda has been, and will always be correct, for its stance on the broken draft system. It is the only vehicle for small and underperforming teams to get access to elite talent, and it has become an absolute p*ss take.

How can the Suns (a semi-finalist) send three first rounders to the Dees for Petracca, and then a month later stroll into the national draft and take four kids in the first 20 picks.

The draft should be uncompromised (including father/sons). The entire AFL Exec team should be made redundant if they can't see that this system is broken. However, they are complicit in bending at the knees to the rugby states.

Well, tonight showed that the bid matching still needs a lot of work.

I think this has given the AFL the justification (not that they care about having it) to forge on with removing the discount and allowing only two picks to match bids. Think Twomey said the decision will be announced next month?

Will be interesting to see what happens if Walker and Cochrane go 1 and 2 next year, and Carlton and Port have decent years.

He got asked that last night and said he is Victorian.

Mate just be grateful it’s the AFL , and in particular the northern clubs -otherwise all those qld and nsw kids would be “forced” into the NRL - basically a slavery league!
But even still, it’s pretty much an industry to churn through these draftees and treat them as commodities. After tonight they’ll all be somewhere and then the attention turns to the 2026 draft cohort and 2025 is literally forgotten.

Apparently these draftees are the salvation of clubs, whereas most of them are better off going and getting a full time job elsewhere because in a few years they’ll be delisted and playing local football. I hate the way they are turned into useful assets then disposed of accordingly. It doesn’t add a lot of positives to a young person in this day and age.
