Thanks. Did you notice the curse on number 6? About 60 games less than #5 and 50 games less than #7 draft pick. Somebody really clever please explain it to me?

Added - looking down the list pick 65 is a dog, while Pick 37 is a real winner, just behind pick 19 for games played.

The thing that we, the mug punters, have no insight into is what goes on between these players ears
Talk to anyone associated with club land and they’ll tell you it’s %50 of the equation. Sure you need a certain level of skills to get drafted but it’s what goes on above the shoulders that has a big influence on eventual success
I fail to see how watching highlight reels is going to provide a full picture.
How do they react when they cop a beating from an opponent, can they carry an injury, how do they react to tagging.
Whilst I’m interested in the various opinions posted here it’s so important to view them through the filter of being opinions formed on only part of the picture
No one can influence what the club does though. So, your post kind of becomes null and void. It's just opinions with some sprinkle of knowledge from some on here.

I still dont understand how this guy didnt make it and isnt even playing vfl…

Sometimes this dont even show up in watching full games, let alone highlights. Recruitment via the draft is a tough gig.

DGB was a poor man's Angus Litherland.
I didn't like him in his draft year for a top pick, and he didn't developed much from there.

What amazed me about DGB is he spent, what four years? on our list and had multiple AFL pre seasons yet to my (untrained) eye he didn't improve his aerobic fitness at all.

The one thing any mug footballer can do is improve your tank by just putting in the kms yet it didn't seem to make much difference to DGBs base fitness at all.

It must be genetic I think, just like some people are born with an unusually large tank others are born with a smaller than average one.

I can't blame the club for ignoring his fitness levels at under 18 level, the common assumption is players will naturally get fitter in an AFL environment.
Had a a really bad knee injury in his first season and bad turf toe in his last season. Never got a good run at it.

Assuming Sharp is gone.
Philippou or Schubert.
Crows can’t get pick 9 that’s going to the eagles for 13/34, I wanted us to trade 10 for the same deal. Rumour is crows trading f1 for blues pick 11 doesn’t make sense to me I would want something else from the crows but they don’t have much. Sharp or cumming sliding would be there hope but would need to trade before knowing who will be there to avoid the dean bid swallowing the pick.

Can honestly say I did not have Angus Litherland being referenced on my 2025 AFL Draft Thread bingo card.

Underrated player

One has to be very careful making judgements of a player of the highlights
that's why I always hedging!

Gus could run. Wasn't he one of the 'replacements' for the druggos??

I don't think so, but definitely played one game as a COVID top up for WCE.
Also goes by Angus Dewar these days - did a Brian Harris/Lake and took what I believe is his mother's maiden name. Won flags for fun at Subi for a while in the WAFL ('18, '19, '21).

That is so disheartening, some of those kicks were bullet like and some of those marks crashing into packs, one grab marks were carey like, can see why we thought he was our chb for next 10 years.
His first game was his best game at the level, i thought we've got a beauty here, then nothing just couldn't adapt

I did not understand your comments but the table there says top 5 is where all the action is, games played, coaches votes, so in all probability someone holding top 5 picks over say a 10 year period is going to do better than someone holding pick 35 over that period. You would have to be extremely lucky and done your homework more than other recruiters to do better from lower down the order than higher.

Dons will take Sharp.

Hang on, so Eagles threaten to bid on Harry Dean early and then use that as leverage to get pick 9 from the Blues in exchange for 13 and 34 and then promise not to bid on Dean early?

That there is draft tampering my friend.

I loved his competitiveness and felt his kicking let him down badly.
Angus would've made a fine defender if he fixed his kicking.
Was a massive Gus fan. Absolutely pantsed Eddie Betts in his 200th game here in Adelaide, when Stratts was out injured.

Soft spot for him as he gave me the signed footy on the fence after the game, rather than giving it to a little kid :tearsofjoy::hearteyes:

Not just that, they can then bid on 3 Qld Academy players at Pick 2 which would mean any bid for Dean can happen only from pick 6 onwards, massive points(700+) advantage for Blues. Our pick 9 trade coming back to bite us.

Will have 11,13,34,43,54

Bet blues are then trading 11 for later picks + Futures.. Not sure if we can trade for 11 with 22+Futures( given we got it from them to start with) but will need to do that before Dean bid comes that swallows 11 and we won't know if our target player will be on board when we pick, so too risky.

10+F1 for 4 makes sense but I bet Tigers will demand 22 is also thrown in which makes it not worth it IMO.

I would do 10, F1, 22 for 4 and 38.

Sullivan Robey will be a star.

Expect so. I didn’t word or spell well was just saying crows would hope sharp or cumming slide to pick 9 but I think it’s unlikely. As they won’t get pick 9 it’s a moot point anyway and if they had 11 and 1 of them slid to 10 I would hope we took them.

Good luck proving it. Isn’t it just a form of draft tampering anyway?😉
The reality is eagles list is so dire they need all those players and should bid on all of them then take Robey.

We were lucky to have pick 9 so I'm not that bothered about it. Our 1st pick would have otherwise been in the late teens.

I wouldn't be trading our F1, it has to be our FF1 and if Tigers demand the F1 in addition to pick 10 then I'd take 22 off the table and ask for pick 3 not pick 4.

Did a bit of a deep dive on Riley Onley.

I liked the clean, one-touch ability at ground level and his athleticism for his size. As well as looking like a bit of a clearance beast.

My goodness his composure and skills by foot needs work though.

Actually reminded me a bit of a Connor Nash, just with a more conventional kicking action.

Would be a great get with a 3rd selection, but I wouldn't take him with our second pick personally.
