No chance

That ship has sailed

31 year old Merrett ..... yeah nah
We will.

If we were offering a 5 year deal I don’t see why we wouldn’t we were obviously very very keen.

Could be a Brian Lake pick up (difference between winning a flag or not)

You honestly think the Hawks and Sam would go back to that shit show.

Zero chance

Dalton, Nairn, Schubert all in the top 10.

I don't think it's a coincidence.

In 2021, Josh Ward (2nd), Ned Long (5th), and Connor Macdonald (8th) all finished in the top 10 of the draft combine 2km time trial.
Finn (5:51) was one of the best in his draft year, same with Weddle (6:03). Whilst Max Ramsden also clocked 6:04 for his 2km time trial.
So we do put a high value on elite runners.

You honestly think we won’t? The way people carry on here is crazy, as if we’re NEVER going to deal with the scum again over a deal not happening.

Don’t remember that ever being an issue with Sydney after O’Keefe

But Sydney weren't a bunch of campaigners who reneged on an agreed deal.

Sam probably wants to have another go at Merrett but won't because of having to deal with Essendon.

As Sam say's, what ever it takes. That means who ever it takes.
So trade Weddle for Merrett, because that's what 'whatever it takes' will mean.

Not trying to get into an argument but we won't go back for Merrett.

If anyone has any sense at the Hawks, which they do, they leave the Merrett thing next year.. There is plenty else to focus on..
Resume mission Merrett in 2027 when he’s a UFA.. No need to even converse with that delusional club in the black and red. just send them a thank you card for the free gift when Merrett joins Hawks for nothing..

Come on man. There's a HUGE difference between dealing with the Swans and the scum. One is a professionally run organisation and the other is a sh*t show parading like a football club. Comparing the two is like apples and oranges.

As for dealing with them again in the future I think it will take a fair bit before we even consider it because they're just so unreasonable. FWIW I was probably the first person on our board that visited the idea of trading for Merrett well before the trade period was approaching.

I brought it up about two thirds of the way through the season gone by when we were getting destroyed in the centre clearances and was swiftly shot down by people here for the very fear of those pr*cks doing what they invariably ended up doing. With Dodo gone from that rabble I fully believed that maybe just maybe they would be reasonable in where they were as a club but how wrong I was as they went on to show that they are rotten all the way to the core from top to bottom.

The HFC isn't exempt from making mistakes but the one thing our club has always been pretty darn good at is making the same mistakes twice. Anyways with Daniel Giansiracusa now in the fold I'm sure we'll have all the info we need about the situation being revisited.

Lot of talk including from me about the undrafted NHH but there are others. Blake OB Rory Wright Max Krasnadamskis are the 3 that come to mind straight away. And Tom Blamires not being drafted ruins a long streak of the VFL rising talent winner not getting drafted. Would love us to offer training spots to those 3 anyone else to add?
On NHH, the things l have read or heard through the media was that recruiters were worried about his inconsistency. He was either on or off and had more off days and didn't always put in 100% effort.
It's an interesting watch but l suspect he might get picked up as an SSP , needs a club to invite him and then go hard and prove doubters wrong.

I honestly think we won’t. As previously posted, there is some serious bad blood now between the clubs. How could we possibly trust any negotiations with them again when their list manager can just be vetoed by the cult.

Hawthorn, rightly or wrongly completely undersold the level of petulance Essendon would show during trade week and learnt the hard way that Essendon and the people who influence decisions at that club had far more interest in ****ing over Hawthorn during trade week than they did in doing anything that might benefit their own club.

We won’t go back there again.

Agreed. Those f**kers literally see what transpired as a win and still do.

I think part of being a professional, well run club means you don’t let things get too heated or emotional when trying to make important decisions. I’d be disappointed if we didn’t look at Merrett again next year, if for no other reason than to see where it sits, assess how Essendon might approach things and then be happy to walk away if it looks anything like it did this year. Learning from this doesn’t mean “never do it again” it should just mean having your wits about you that little bit more.
