Gather Round tickets snapped up in record time

The AFL is pleased to announce that more than 195,000 Gather Round…Festival of Footy tickets have sold… with five of the nine games sold out, 20,000 more than this time last year.

Member on sale on Tuesday saw a significant uplift in demand for tickets this year, selling more than 100,000 tickets in the first four hours, in comparison to the same amount in 24 hours last year.

This year there are an extra 47,000 tickets on offer for fans with the two Saturday matches being ticketed separately.

Tickets still remain for Collingwood vs Sydney Swans on Friday night, Carlton vs West Coast on Saturday afternoon, Melbourne vs Essendon on Saturday night and a very limited number of restricted view tickets and tickets for the Pepsi Collective for Port Adelaide vs Hawthorn on Sunday evening.

AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said it was clear Gather Round momentum was not slowly down.

“The demand for tickets this year was significantly higher than the first two Gather Rounds, with more than 195,000 tickets being purchased in the first two days,” said Mr Dillon.

“A ticket to the matches at the Barossa Park was always going to be one of the hottest tickets in town and the fans have certainly illustrated that by selling out both matches so quickly.”

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said: “Gather Round continues to exceed all expectations.

“We are honoured that so many footy fans from around the country are making the commitment to travel to our beautiful state to experience this event like no other.

“They’ll be truly welcome.

“If you haven’t got a ticket already – get in quick!”

Tickets for the remaining matches can be found here.

Looking further into the Giants fixture their absence from Western Sydney is actually insane.

  • 28 days between OR and around 4
  • 41 days between round 4 and 10
  • 22 days between round 12 and 15
  • 30 days potentially between round 20 and 23.

How on earth do you expect people in Western Sydney to build an attachment to a team that’s only in Western Sydney part time???
Another reason the Canberra20 team is required, and giants focus on west Sydney

MCC reserved sales were strong overnight, although I still think the reserve will have plenty of room available in the top 1/4 of Q deck tonight.

Public sales have continued to be strong, Q26 in AFL Reserve now being sold to public.

The attendance now appears to be tracking I think in line with last year ~80,000…

It now comes down to to the afternoon and early evening weather. If it’s a showery afternoon that looks constant, the crowd will be impacted with some reserved seat holders and AFL/MCC walkups staying away.

So my best guess is somewhere in the 75-82k area with weather being what determines where it eventually lands in this band.

Does it really hold 40k?

Seems like a myth.
32,000! That is not ideal. How did they possibly get 39,000 to their inaugural game (Vs Saints), yet this is hands down the biggest game at the Stadium in ages and they could not get over 35,000. Most likely explanation is the Thursday night factor. I am still flabbergasted though, the hype this game had should have been over 35,000 as a minimum.

It will be interesting to see what Geel v Essendon will get later in the year.

Shithouse crowd for this game.
To be fair it's probably passable. Thursday night at the hardest to access venue in the state. Even with the train, you're not leaving until what 10:30 at the earliest I'm guessing, which means if you're coming from Melbourne you're not getting back to Southern Cross until midnight, let alone then getting to wherever you're from. So I can imagine that puts people off, moreso than Friday or Saturday night

I guess no different to a Subiaco game back in the day. Crowds are up 20% because of the redevelopment.

The dogs turnout sounded ok. It should be mostly Geelong locals filling the stadium. I would have thought it's pretty convenient playing in a local small town on a Thursday night compared to in the city as the travel times and getting home for the significant majority would be a lot easier.

Just had a quick look, high resolution forecast model isn't showing any rain for the game tonight.

2 out for 3 models not showing any rain for the game tonight. Only one showing nuisance rain. So hopefully that holds and there isn't any rain. Although, in saying that, it is Melbourne so plan accordingly though aside from the chance of nuisance rain, it's looking good.

Will be my first time at the Dreamtime game at the G tonight as I'm down from Sydney for the footy this weekened. Hope it's an absolute belter :D

Yes it looks like the conditions might be more favourable and that’s a good things for the spectacle and fans attending.

Looks like they’ve move quite a lot of tickets for the Hawks v Tigers game.

Looks to be a similar amount to Carlton v Geelong last week. Hopefully better weather and the big occasion (well at least for Hawthorn) will draw more out…

Re Saturday, general admission sales (and AFL reserve seating) is tracking ever so slightly behind Hawthorn v Richmond. So could be mid-to-high 50,000’s if the rain stays away…

Brisbane have a lot less AFL and MCC members than Richmond but I gather the time slot and much more attractive fixture will bring out more neutrals.

As for tonight, it will easily hit 80,000 given the vastly superior Friday v Saturday Night scheduling. Richmond are also a lot more competitive this year too…

On level two AFL members
The crowd looking good, building up.

To scan in they weren't working so we had to be manually scanned in.

I'm still going with my prediction that the crowd will be around 80K, similar to last year 79.5K

Very disappointing crowd

And kudos to those there, two dreadful teams. I’m glad I’m in QLD and can’t go and watch them these days. Just atrocious.

If 80K is the low bar for a sub par VFL clash, imagine with both sides going on 8-3 or similar. Essendon members on level 1 looks pretty full - so props to them.

It’ll be their last game for the year probably. I’m more interested in their VFL team, problem is with more players going down tonight even thst team is looking like the Ammo’s 😃
