This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

So, if the contract that the Cats offer is not better than what we have offered (and won't get us a nice Compo pick) then why wouldnt they match it and force the cats to trade for him?
I think it might be significantly better. Our second offer was put to James before Cats' latest. I know for a fact our first offer was three years (no idea about money) so I'm assuming our second was for four years.
Doesn't matter though. If Cats offered five with more money that becomes significant.

If we really want to keep him we'll match five years and that will depend on whether we've landed Trac or Walsh or whoever.
Guess we wont know for another month or so if he's staying or going.

People writing off Trac are also not factoring in that he has had next to no support in the midfield (given Oliver's extra curricular activities and Viney drop off) and noone to kick it to in the forward line (therefore taking on more or dumping it in hope)

He may well have lost an edge with the injury but surrounding him with support from Newk, Day, Nash, Ward etc with a dangerous fwd line and I don't think there will be any issue getting more output than Worpel.

We all want a top liner in the mids and whilst Butters or Zerrett would be preferable, if Trac is the only one that is gettable we should get him. Other teams are improving and if people think adding a raw pick 14 will help us get past the Lions and Crows next year then there is no helping them
Not sure on that. I will fall on my sword and admit he is more than moderately better than Worps. But anyone watching Melbourne knows how good Harvey Langford and Picket have been this year and both without needing to dump in hope.

Also, I don't think either will come to us, but I think it's wild the same people saying Ryan should be avoided cos he's old/past it are the same ones who want Trac

Because the ceiling of both players is radically different and Trac plays a position we are in need of whereas Ryan does not.

We handled Finn's awful injury a lot better than the Dee's handled trac's injury. That would be in his mind. Centre clearances have been a bug bear of ours all season, that's where the Trac Excells. Taking ground from the opposition from the source would give us a huge advantage.
Just wanna say, how awesome would it be to have Trac right now heading into the finals with no Day? Just think about it.

Anyone who wants us to keep our first draft pick needs to know how shallow this draft is. Cal Twomey just said pick 5-6 is equivalent to someone like Xavier Lindsay.

Pick 8 for Trac and let’s move on
I’ll understand if we use pick 8 for trac, but I’d prefer if we found another way. Future first?

Getting Trac and keeping this years first would be a result.

Best possible result.

In other news, Blues heavily into Ned but we've offered him another contract beyond 2026. No signing news yet

Dylan Shiel has been de-listed and is looking for another club.

One is a norm smith medallist, 4x AA, 2xB&F winner

The other is a 1x AA player who has never kicked more than 30 goals

Future first should be untouchable until more is known about what changes they are going to make to the draft. Next year, first rounders could be very valuable.

History very much suggests that with Trac about to turn 30 alongside his serious injury that his best is well in the past.

He’s still going to show pieces of how good he used to be but producing seasons like 2020-23 is most likely done.

Still will provide value to any team but given his monster contract and likely continued form decline I wouldn’t want to give much outside a future first or late first even if the Dees chip in a little.

Don’t want to be paying extra for who he was.
Mitchell and Hodge were the same age as Petracca during the threepeat as was Lake, Gibson and burgoyne.

Issac Smith won the norm smith at 33 and Jack Gunston and Jeremy Cameron were 1 and 3 in the Coleman at 32.

Tom Mitchell, Steele Sidebottom, Scott Pendlebury led the pies midfield to a flag.

Lachie Neale and Zorko still key parts of a premierhip site.

Dangerfield with Geelong.

If we get 3-4 good years out of Petracca it could be the difference between being an almost team in the bottom half of the 8. Or a team that wins the 26,27,28 and 29 flags. Doesn't need to be an AA mid, or win the brownlow. But he can be a reliable consistent player who wins his contests and gets the team over the line, and wins a Norm Smith.

Pass, but on this line of thinking I wouldn't be against dangling 2 years in front of Treloar if a few list spots open up. Big 'IF' he gets his body right he is the type of mid we need and was AA last year. Probably only consider it though if we don't land trac or anyone like that though.

Just a silly hypothetical that won't happen though...

Also if you've never watched Trac's social media channel where he cooks its pretty damn good. Football aside he's always seemed like a very likeable guy to me.

The best case would be to use F1 + something / someone else on Trac and then hoping Greeves falls to our pick. Trac can easily hold down the fort next season whilst someone like Greeves can be brought in when he's ready.
