I think this board can get overly dramatic re Pearce, but there's no denying this is an ongoing issue. We are at the pointy end of the year with finals on the line again, and our side is missing their captain and best defender.

The transference of captaincy makes sense now next year. In terms of long term replacement though what can we reasonably do? We are only going to hit the draft for a KPD, it's not like we have any in our sights from a trade perspective?
We CAN NOT draft another tall this year, not without delisting two of Davies, Murphy and McDonald.

I think there's actually a decent chance Nicholls moves back, his body and contest work is fantastic all things considered.

Nicholls seems to have a naturally attacking game which I think could work well in defence.

If you know what I mean.

Ollie Murphy ???
I think StingBitten makes a good point and I’ve said it a few times on here too - when Pearce is fit he’s great but we are facing the very real prospect of him missing the business end of yet another season.
In terms of replacements I guess we have drafted Murphy, Davies, Draper and Nicholls as potential options in recent years. Draper obviously is the most promising so far, but hopefully one of the others comes good.
Not sure we can do much more though unless we think Davies or Murphy are busts. Int hat case they should be delisted and new potential replacements drafted later this year. Haven’t watched either enough to make a judgement

Crazy to draft another KPD with Draper, Davies, Murphy all developing and Omac as ready to play depth. Throw Nicholls into the mix and that’s too many KPDs.
Some people think it's easy to draft another Pearce, we've been trying to find one and have a few developing like you mentioned but AP when fit and playing is elite... Not as simple as "Use a pick and replace him."

Any updates on MJ? looked bad , his ankle blew up like a balloon. Sucks to lose him the same time we get Youngy back.
As terrible as it sounds, he’s the one mid we can probably afford to lose now that Youngie is back.
Having said that it is an ankle injury so you wouldn’t think he’d be out too long.

Putting my uneducated medical hat on, I've popped the ligament in the ankle that runs around the outside doing that exact over the top moment. If it is that, he will be ok in a few weeks as one can play without it relatively quickly and it's quite common. Surgery can be postponed to off season or avoided if the player shows they are fine to play without the ligament. Just reminds me a lot of my own injury when I was 15, rolling forward over the ankle, rather than just the typical side roll.

There's obviously a chance of a fracture which would not be good.

He looked so devastated after the game, I reckon it's a fracture.

Yeah, good chance of a fracture on that ankle, nasty. Hopefully wrong, but that’d also be a lot of ligament damage. Would be pleasantly surprised if he plays again this season.

That would probably have been an Anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL) tear. MJ did a fairly decent roll - I’d be surprised if it wasn’t a full rupture (ie grade 3). I think he’ll be out for a bit.

JL said Johnson heard a crack when it happened
That’s not a good sign , I was hoping it was only rolled

Did mine like that last year
Heard a crack
It is the bones on the inside of the ankle crushing together

Could be torn ligaments on the outside of the ankle

MJ was devastated because it is the business end of the year. He knows it is a decent ankle injury and will miss some time. Hopefully it isn’t a grade 3 or fracture but your mind obviously goes to worst case scenario. The physios would have a good idea but all will be revealed from the MRI. At the end of the day if it is minor injury and he misses 4 weeks then that puts him behind the eight ball heading into the last round or two before finals. As ole mate used to say - “It isn’t ideal”

At least it wasn't an achilles or knee or bad leg break (e.g. Barlow) which were my first fears when he collapsed. Maybe he misses the year, but even if that is the case he should be ready for pre-season.

When I ruptured my talofibular ligament, bending/squatting to plug a cable into the back of a computer at work (my most embarrassing injury), the surgeon told me that particular one doesn't get that way without a fracture dislocation - usually.

If that is the injury then he may be able to play through it, it only hurts like a 1000 degree poker in the back of your heel whenever you move, or stay still, or drive a manual car.

The way his ankle went right over like that there's so much that could have gone. Any of all of those three ligaments across the front could have blown - they won't even operate unless it's at least two of them though unless Soo Tee Lim's protocols have been updated.

Ankles and elbows are gross. I hope MJ comes back even huger in the gym.

what a nothing tweet lol. Dockers hope nothing is wrong, but don't have any results yet!!

I would say that means the initial scans look positive but they’re doing more scans to be sure.
That’s my read on that.
