SOS in my mind has had a preference on picking guys he has drafted previously drafted or been involved with. Whether it’s a confirmation bias, laziness, ego , pride or something else. After Carlton and his going after junk giants players I thought maybe he had learnt. Then he proceeded to go after

Carol
Stocker
Dow

His biases extended to his drafting imo. That’s a discussion for another day.

Are they though? Last year Battle sent us backwards. This year TDK and Aleer are coming in are going sideways. Any improvement is happening inside our club at this point and we look like we’ll leak talent faster than we replace it.

You know this from where? Because he was an accountant? Well read, lol, I have known accountants who know nothing except basic accounting principles and have read nothing else.
All you know is that he is a good intercept mark.
Oh also you NEVER have an accountant run your business. One of the golden rules of the business world, not what they are there for.

They are all contracted so they will need big offers to be moved , Wilkie is a gem and currently one of our best but turning 30 this year his best has most probably had it and when he signed his last contract he should of gone for the shorter term instead of going for the longer option.
If he does leave it will be a massive hit to us because he really is the only true defender we have atm.

Steele is another who turns 30 this year and really has not been his best for many years and him leaving will only open the door to the kids getting more time in the middle , so to me this is not a big deal if he leaves.

Marshall is another who is signed till 2027 and is in the same boat as Wilkie / one of our best players turning turning 30 this year.

All 3 of these guys a very good players and if we lost them it would make us weaker,
but I don't feel sorry for any of them because when they signed their contracts they were signing basically there last long term contract and they got the best deal at the time - I remember Marshall held out a while and Wilkie signed on without hesitation mainly because the deal was better than he expected.

I remember Roo was pissed because they wouldnt give him a long term contract and only gave him yearly contracts the last 3 or 4 years that he was there however he most probably was better off getting more money by doing so.

Wilkie , Steele and Marshall all signed longer term deals ending when they turn 32 so they new what they were getting.

Anyway I predict no one will leave because they would be on good salary atm and moving to another club turning 31 next year would put them well under the pump.

Windhager to me is our future captain , tough and is a leader in my opinion and I feel he will sign once all the TGK and Nas signing are competed.
Anyway if he wants more sign a one year deal and have a breakout season then hit them for the big money contract , but it seems they want the longer term deals on good coin when they have not really been standouts.

In saying what I have said we have never been in a better position to set our selves up for the future because the players mentioned above all have value and if any decided to leave we would get well compensated not like in the past with guys like Dunstan , Billings basically leaving for nothing.

And currently atm there are a lot of players that could be on the market for cheap if you look at the rumors of the players from Carlton , Essendon , Melbourne but it will hard to sort through the players actually worth getting.

Whatever happens we are in a good position to strengthen the team through the draft or trades.

Ross is the head coach, the decisions of the assistant don’t matter as the buck stops with him.

Acknowledges that some noses in general will be out of joint because it’s about getting into premiership contention.

also says of which the wilkies Marshall’s sinclairs Steele’s won’t see contention if we don’t go big on bringing more talent in but that Ross had spoken to them directly about that.

You were saying we needed to shed Battle and Wilkie to go young and that until Nas and Windhager types were in their prime we wouldn’t contend didn’t you? Now we need to dump them as well and wait until Tauru is 38?
