I’ve heard Butters isn’t homesick, he’s actually quite happy in Adelaide. Suggestions that he is might just be to drive up his price.

I've heard both Butters and Nas actually want to live in Hobart because they love the weather, so anything happening right now is just them messing around while waiting for the Tassie team to open up its books

Maybe Windy's camp see him as worth more than he is.
Might just be club's priorities at this point (in terms of, they'll get a deal done for Windy, but the last few weeks Nas has probably occupied a lot of their thinking plus getting the Box & Hall deals plus the ever-present TDK).

Have no idea what the club offered Windy to be seen as a low ball, but if you look at his career form up to R16 this year, it's just... ok. Up to that point he'd never had five games in a row with 20+ disposals (which he's now done), had a couple of games just before that where he didn't even lay a tackle (WC and Freo) which is not what you want from your hard nosed in and under type players.

From R17 he has looked really good, breakout game against Sydney and his tackles, Inside 50 and clearance numbers are all starting to be consistently good. But that's a ~6 game block in his career to date - it probably does project forward well since he's getting closeish to that 100 game mark where most players find consistency.

But yeah if his camp thinks he should be rewarded based on the last five or so weeks alone I can see why there might be a bit of difference in thinking.

If his genuine preference is to leave then take it from the best coach in world sport Pep Guardiola and let him go. Keeping him against his will for 2 years will solve nothing. You can’t build anything meaningful with a player who doesn’t want to be there, let alone your best player.

Make Port commit to him publicly and force their hand with Butters. See if the Rowell deal will sway Butters if not make Port trade him to the Hawks and get Carlton’s pick, their future first and Bergman.

The whole situation is so dumb, NAS and Port have played this situation awfully. Williams should have been all over this with them leading up to this year. All over Lukosius for gods sake.

I think a few people on here are filling the information void with sensationalist over reaction to the club’s management of the negotiations. Negotiations take time. That doesn’t mean absence of outwardly tangible progress is negotiation negligence. It just means things are happening in the background at the same time clubs are preparing for and playing in matches.

I love this. I've noticed it's been written a few times lately that Brad is the 'elder'. Some supporters bag Brad but these guys are brothers and the relationship/trust is fragile AF it seems. We are offering Windy unders, not yet offering Keels a contract, Henry is somewhat cooked with his injury management in the 2s, we are happy to send Lancey boy home because hes not a gun yet, like it or not - we might have played this poorly thanks to culture and ignorance.

If it emerges that Windy’s been shafted and with it, an indirect knock-on effect for Nas then I’ll be staring down the barrel of my 30 year membership reaching its quiet conclusion.

There’s only so much institutional mismanagement one can stomach in a lifetime.

I said the same thing about Windy months ago and got laughed at/ridiculed to no end.

I agree. Still wonder if it will happen :)
No idea like everyone else but logic and gut tell me he’s gone.

Why when you can get top dollar and play at home would you stay here. He’s made it clear he wants to be in SA from day one so when it’s being offered to him on a plate it would seem crazy to knock it back.

Look at the options, do any of them improve his situation?. They only at best kick the can down the road and keep him in Melbourne where he doesn’t want to be.

Personally I think only afl intervention of the some kind can save us. The afl will need to encourage him to stay with us using some kind of cash, that’s not happening. So door two is bend the rules in relation to port and trading picks. Door three is Butters demanding home and those picks flipping to us.

My bet is an ugly prolonged dispute with us winding up with a combination of players and picks. Despite Nas being a gun A grader and 22 we may yet come out of this ok.

One things clear the afl rules are shot. The players have too much power and compensation is a crap shoot in a situation like ours. The afl needs to introduce the franchise tag in any future changes and the aflpa need a kick right where it hurts.

Until the rules are changed I wouldn’t go near an interstate player, Reid will be the blue print. Do your 2 or 3 years then demand a trade home to your club of choice with a nice big payday.

Have I got this right?

AFL press release last August about changes to AFL draft rules (NGAs/Father Son DVI and future pick trading) stated:

Future pick trading

From 2025, Clubs will be able to trade future draft selections up to two years in advance subject to the following AFL imposed protections:

Clubs must use two first round selections every four years.

Clubs must have board approval to trade any first round selections.

For second year only: Clubs must hold the full suite of draft selections (2nd and 3rd round selections) to trade their first round selections and vice versa.

Now looking at Ports recent drafting history...

2022 - no first rounders used
2023 - no first rounders used
2024 - 1 x first rounder
2025 - don't have a first round pick

How could they trade out their next 2 years of future 1sts for Wanganeen-Milera?

They're already in breach of the rules if they don't take a 1st rounder this year (which they don't even have). But I think the AFL gave them an exception so they could pull of the Horne Francis trade.

But they would surely need another afl exemption to trade their 2026 and 2027 1st rounders? Because that would result in them using only 1 first rounder in 6 years... Am I wrong about this?

Even bigger rort, when the player is homesick, yet refuses to deal with any other club in that city. It's a joke.
yeah ablett and beams come to mind straight off,"im homesick, gotta get back to geelong/collingwood"not victoria, what a load of shite

To be absolutely clear, I was not insinuating or implying racism at all. I can see how the Harry/Meaghan comparison would lead to that conclusion but that was not my intention. My implication there was related to stuff around relationships. I read the word "cuck" in a post earlier, and it was more to do with that.
Is Harry a cuck ? I just thought he was an idiot.

For those who think nas is still staying, at what point will you think he's gone? It's round 21 and he hasn't signed. How do you still think he's staying? Will u be worried if he doesn't sign this week? Or by the start of the last game against the giants?

He'll have been traded and named in Port's round 1 team next year and they'll still tell themselves he's going to run out in our jumper.

I think when it becomes "he'll make a decision at the end of the season" then we'll know he's gone.

Time is definitely ticking.

I think he stays on a basis of not being able to facilitate a trade. He's not going to go to PSD. I think in the worst case scenario i could see a trade not being done and him re-signing before going to PSD.

I cant deny the fact that every day that passes is nerve wracking .

I’d do it but will st Kilda.

You can't really blame Windy if he decides to leave. By all reports, he's been low-balled and wasn't in the best 22 in the presentation by SOS to Nas.

That's a fair kick in the nuts when you're 22 and should be entering the prime of your career.

We could be looking at an offseason of losing:- Nas, Steele, Marshall & Windy. That's a lot of change, hopefully they have a plan!

The second our last game of the year wraps up against GWS and we still don't have an answer.

But I still believe we'll know within the next week or so.

Just look at Dusty and De Goey signings, its not always easy to predict. Its not a big name, but I was standing next to Harry Boyd the same day that one of our list management team walked over, shook hands with and congratulated him on making it onto the list. The public knew about it a month later.

There must be so many moving parts happening behind the scenes at any given moment, for all we know it could be decided and we are just nutting out the finer details.
