If we’d gotten Bergman he’d have cost us our first this year, and we tried to trade our first for Berry on draft night last year, so if we got one of them, and another first- plus more- it’s already a great return on a pick 11 investment from 4 years ago.

Put it this way, if you had your time over again, would you rather we didn’t pick Nas that night, because he was going to leave in 4 years (if he chooses to leave), and that we’d picked Sinn or Hobbs instead, or will it still be a great result that we chose Nas, even if he leaves now?

No-one would but finding another A grader is hard, finding generational talent is nearly impossible. In every way losing Nas is catastrophic for us. It dilutes our list further when we need to start adding more players like Nas. Bergman is a flashy GOP, Berry is an unknown quantity and picks in the next draft are likely to be pretty average due to them likely rising up the ladder.

It really feels like there is absolutely nothing going to improve at St Kilda any time soon. Really makes chasing top-ups seem absolutely insane too if he's gone. We might as well develop our own kids rather than top up at huge cost.

Serious question, when is the last time a 22 year old of his talent moved? Can't think of an example.

I just can't see how it happens. I get if he wants to go home but really how homesick can he actually be playing the footy he is?

Losing him would be beyond disastrous..can't even bring myself to think about it.

I think this Sunday…

At the 7th second of the 7th minute of the 7th quarter…

We should all remove our shoes and socks and hold up our 7th toe..

For 7 minutes and 7 seconds…

To indicate to Nas that we want him to stay…

and to let him know we have all truly lost the plot 🤪

This entire rigmarole is eerily reminiscent of the Battle scenario.

The club confident all year we’ll get him to re-sign but it keeps dragging on.

For everyone’s sanity, assume he’s gone and be pleasantly surprised if he stays.

I am resigned to the fact that Nas is most likely gone given the history of uncontracted players not committing this late in the year.

However, I cannot see how a deal gets done without Butters agreeing to come to us or they manage to find two top 10 picks in this years draft. We will have little interest in gambling on future picks. Three teens picks are not good enough with academies and f/s.

I also believe NAS’s rise has thrown a spanner in the works with how we intended to structure contracts of his and incoming talents so they are trying to work out how to pay NAS and still leave cap room down the track when we feel our window will open. If he does stay it may impact some of our better paid senior players. Guys like Marshall and Steele might need to make way now to allow us to front load contracts. The other older players like Howard, Webster and Bynes are probably going to be offered very modest contracts if at all.

Jordan Dawson was coming on at a rapid rate at Sydney but nowhere near the level of Nas. I'm in mourning before it's even happened. Even the thought of him going makes me depressed. Maybe Judd and Danger are the closest comparisons.

If Nas goes, would prefer Butters over Bergman who's another flanker trying to playing mid. Let's get our other list holes sorted in one transaction. Mid + small forward + key position = Butters + Berry + Whitlock

Nas’s contract offers are going up by the week, and there’s talk that like Harley Reid, clubs reckon he’s worth $2mil PA, so it’s perfectly understandable that he’s waiting to see how high the offers go, if he is legitimately undecided.

Obviously if he wants to stay there will be a number where once we get to it he’ll sign, so the fact he hasn’t yet means either:

A: He wants to stay, but we haven’t gotten to that number yet, or

B: He wants out and no number he gets from us will change his mind, and he’ll announce he wants out some time in September.

C: He’s legitimately undecided still.

The concern for me is if Windy has moved out and perhaps Mitch will soon follow and Nas is left home alone with no girl and no close mates or family outside the club in Melbourne.

For a quiet guy like him, I can see why there would be a big pull to go home.
I’m sure the club is all over it if they are already aware of his living situation
