Welcome to st Kilda, who once put one of my favourite players in a cab and sent him off to play for the hawks.

This club has disappointed generations of supporters, occasionally delighted or amused although more often bemused, it’s who we are.

I think it’s trying to solve the puzzle that is st Kilda that keeps a lot of supporters on board.
Russell Greene? That was a great trade wasn't it!

What’s your take on all of this Jake? Still got a positive feeling re nas?
I do, yep - still think he stays. Worried obviously, but realistically I just don't see how it gets done and as we've mentioned, there's no word from SA that he even wants to get home. Main issue is we're Saints fans, we expect the worst so it's impossible to shake that feeling until we get confirmation, but I was told 3-4 weeks back the 2 year extension was on.

Idiot manager playing silly buggers with us trying to make us sweat - and sad to say he is succeeding.
At least with the fans

I concur.

I’ll only begin to panic if there is no movement between now and our last vic game in 2 weeks time.

Supporter base seems to slowly be getting to the point of just over the speculation and wanting an answer. Which makes me think of Batman:

"You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain"

Re NAS,

It was communicated at a 40 year member function on Wednesday that saints hope to hear something re nas this coming week?

My thoughts, if next week passes and nothing, I think trouble.

Maybe old mate Williams is dragging it out because he is trying to get nas home ?

It would be disappointing drafting your own, developing him for 4 years, turns into a gun, then leaves.

Its been ****ing obvious for the last month thats exactly what Ben Williams is doing.

If it gets out nas is going id say they're worried about the backlash in the media with fans and even his team mates.

Nas’s rise had to play havoc on all the contracts that were being negotiated and structure. Both exisiting and incoming talent. There would be a lot of work and conversations to be had to make it all work and keep everyone happy.

Could easily be some extra clauses for B&F results, Brownlow Medal, All-Australian, or statistical stuff that weren’t initially in the short term 2 year deal.

I think the situation we find ourselves in is exactly why the afl needs to introduce the franchise tag.

If we had that it brings port to the table with their best offer, otherwise we can tag him twice. Nas gets paid we keep our player which is fair enough. There’s more to it than that but it seems to work fairly well and gives something to everyone.

The player gets compensation that isn’t determined by the club. The club gets the deal they want or they hold onto the player. Opposition clubs if they want the player then make an offer they can’t refuse.

Nothings perfect but the afl seems to have taken parts of the nfl system but left others out creating big holes. Loosing Nas for whatever port chuck us is just crazy imo.
They will. After he leaves

Very much just a lurker these days, but like everyone else wanted to give my two cents on the NWM situation. Although it stresses me far more than it should that he's yet to re-sign, there are also just so many factors that make me think he is eventually going to sign a new deal.

15/04/2025 - Ben Williams: "He's happy there at the moment. If I was a betting man, he'd probably be staying".

01/06/2025 - NWM: "I've got great relationships with the boys. I love Ross, I love all the coaching staff. I want to be part of something special at St Kilda".

This, critically, as far as I know is the only time he or his manager has spoken publicly about his contract situation this year. There has been absolutely nothing of substance reported all year indicating that he is more likely to leave than stay. All the media noise, the whole narrative is that historically, the longer a player remains unsigned, the more likely he is to leave. But this isn't always the case.

Just about every article or opinion on SEN, update on The Agenda Setters etc is pure speculation. They don't have any idea what is going on, and it shows. But the hysteria drives engagement through the roof so it isn't going to stop until there's an outcome. Also keep in mind that no credible footy journo's have come out and said they think he will request a trade, most either think he stays or simply just don't know - which isn't a bad thing.

It was recently reported that his management asked St Kilda to put forward a two-year offer, which we reportedly did. Since then, his value has once again absolutely skyrocketed.

NWM is saying all the right things publicly and clearly, he is comfortable with the external noise - he and his management know that the more he improves, the more valuable he will become. If it has always been his intention to re-sign (which all signs point towards being the case), it has been played perfectly.

The reaction to last week, the connection he'd have with the group, dancing on Ross' shoulders. That doesn't look like someone who doesn't want to be there. He's letting his footy do the talking and the rest will take care of itself.

He probably does want to go back to SA, but he can also want to stay at St Kilda. Both things can be true - but neither of the SA clubs have planned for it and are unlikely to be able to put forward a reasonable trade to satisfy St Kilda. He's clearly not desperate to get out, him walking to the PSD will absolutely never happen.

We've got games coming up against North, Richmond, and Essendon - three pretty average teams that based on current form, he could well poll another 9 Brownlow votes. That's again only going to increase his value. Until he or his manager say something indicating otherwise publicly or puts off contract talks until post-season, I'm still confident that he signs on.

It’s pretty bang average if the manager (on behalf of Nas) has been negotiating with the club in bad faith for months. IMO, just a really poor way for Nas to exit, that said probably looks like the most likely state of play right now.
Or it’s pretty bad if the club didn’t get on top of it early and let it get to this stage
