Even doing that its two guys at $1.5m.

Both would now be the highest paid players in the AFL.

Its not my mail, could be total bullshit but i can see why two guys taking $3m might make a speculative $750k incoming a concern.
I hear what you're saying but if $500K of TDK's salary for the first 3 years was going to be paid out of "use it or lose it" banked savings then that skews the "highest paid" tag for his wage.

As for Aleer - the way I see it is that it will be Aleer and Howard (on a reduced amount) as our tall defenders next year. Save $200K a year on Howard, lose Cordys wage and its not much change to what we've paid this year for tall defenders.

i saw him at one point take the ball off wilkie for a kick in,i reckon wilkie thought about it,saw who it was and handed him the ball,if it was someone else the captain of the backline probably tells him to piss off

whatever works to keep him i guess
only took the 1 on the weekend so not a huge issue haha
Worpel's got Geelong all over him

Over thinking it.

It would be a case of getting all the offers on the table regardless of nas preference to present to his client

I'd say nas mind was made up a while back and now they're just buying time

I wouldn't call it acting in bad faith. He's giving the club every opportunity to change NAS mind. He's keeping dialog open.
The initial delay would have been purely about upping the dollars.

It was and is smart player management, his value is insane now.

The continued delays, especially post the Dees game (where no player has ever had a bigger value pop) are concerning.

If we didnt open the chequebook after that Dees game then we ****ed up. If we did and he didnt sign, then were in strife.

Sure, i can see that angle too.

I dont agree at all on the "highest paid" thing though. Materially or reputationally, hes the highest paid player, our salary cap situation doesnt really matter to the dollars into his account.

For the sake of the game I hope that Nas stays with you guys. Us small clubs have trouble enough with attracting elite talent, it is heartbreaking to lose talent that you have nurtured and developed. Plus Port are absolutely horrible to deal with. They will offer nothing serious in return, just a handful of crap draft picks in a compromised draft that you will be expected to settle for.

Agreed.. they landed a #1 pick with a kiss on the willy because of a homesick puppy and you have to take what you can get for the player’s personal reason

I sat next to a fella from Darwin today.

Was certain that we’ve signed Tex Wanganeen, and NWM staying.

He’s very close to NWM’s uncle supposedly.

Here’s hoping….
Theyre from SA not NT

Everything points to him requesting a trade.
Feel like Port are trying to get the appropriate compensation lined.

It is very difficult and taking time involving other clubs, and current players.

Would say they have been given a deadline. If it looks like they can't do it, NAZ probably stays for 2. If this drags on to after the season, Port has secured high dps by trading Butters and convinced a Whitlock or Berry ( or both).

You dont recall battle last year...
This situation very different to Battle, however looking at body language, cradling a mates kid, him saying ' 'manager and club is sorting it out', means nothing and is just cope.

Fact is nobody knows, no leaks from clubland, journo's guessing, as are we.

One thing is certain. He currently is still unsigned for next season.

I'd take Nas at his word, "the club and the manager are working it out". It's an unprecedented situation with his recent form and being uncontracted. They are obviously crunching numbers.

Doesn't matter if its the most lucrative deal in st kilda history. All it matters is what the market rate is.

And its not the most lucrative deal anyway. Old mate TDK is going to get that.

SOS is having an absolute mare.

What started as a concern for me over losing Nas is slowly shifting into concerns around us overpaying to keep a player who doesn’t truly want to be here. Then two years down the track before we’ve even hit our premiership window, he's out the door and we’re back in the same drama we are experiencing now. Not to mention the potential overpayment having salary cap ramifications on who we can attract and can keep.

Not saying that’s the path we’re on although it’s definitely in the back of my mind.

The majority of successful teams over a sustained period are able to stay competitive because players accept 'unders' to stay where as it feels we are going in the opposite direction...

So despite any evidence whatsoever, other than media speculation, you are quite happy to skewer people at our club as having done nothing correctly....yes?

I guess with supporters like you, we don't really need opposition do we? Let me guess...."I'm a realist"......

If he were to leave which part of his statement would be a lie?

Its at best a non comittal comment, people reading into him giving a well rehearsed and time honored nothing statement are wild to me.

Losing him in two years would be a much, much better outcome though. Plus it gives us two years to convince him to stay.

Ill take that option a million times over losing him now.

We have been crying out for a superstar player for years, someone who can take our team deep into the finals and also make the club successful off the field.

We could be an absolute powerhouse on and off the field with NAS. If I can lend a word from a previous ex-coach then I would say "juggernaut".

That's how important NAS is to this clubs future.

Get it done!!!

I think a $2 mill contract makes it very difficult to put together a top 4 quality list let alone a premiership list.
