This needs some unpacking.

Roma back in 2019- at the age of 23 - had a better year than TDK's best year to date. And TDK is 26.

So judging by "same age" Roma's the better player than TDK. Had achieved more at 26 than TDK currently has.

Roma's best seasons were immediately pre and post Ryder when he was sole #1 ruck - 2019, 2023 and 2024.

Obviously Roma turns 30 in a few months. He's 3.5 years older.

The questions for me are:

- Do we lose Roma if TDK comes?

- If we do, we're in the same position as the last 3 years since Ryder left- one quality #1 ruck, one older insurance option (Campbell/Boyd), and some kids. The only difference is- TDK replaces Roma, and the kids are a bit older and more ready than previously.

- Does TDK add much to what Roma's already doing?

- If we have a succession plan in place- Roma, onto Dodson/Heath/Keeler, do we need to fix what isn't broken?

- If we want ruck upgrades in the medium term- are there other options, eg a young player we can trade for (like Hickey or Longer years ago) or another free agent who's better value for money (either this year or wait another 12 months)

- Is TDK really worth an investment of the biggest contract in AFL history?
I think we can carry both of them for a couple of years. It could extend Roma's career spending more time forward and King would love having either Roma or TDK next to him in the forward line. Imagine Sharman will be happy to take the 3rd defender too, and Owens the 4th.

I'm not too happy about the money but I don't trust the media do accurately report the actual amount over the entire contract. I imagine it's less and heavily front ended.

We're too far into the deal now to back out, but I'd probably have preferred to target a 2nd ruck like Ned Reeves from Hawthorn and back in the development of Dodson, Keeler and Moose.

We're committed now (unless a medical reveals something to scare us off).

All the more reason to give experience to Dodson
He could be our best player from the draft
His vfl form is higher than tdk and marshall amd when taking into his account how little afl he has played from basketball could be elite.
We need elite mids
Midfield is our key issue plus the resigning if Dodson, windy and wilson
And Dodson dropped 😂

Acres, Billings ? Fascinated 🤔
Marshall is on $800-900k average ruckman but good at follow up and around the ground, TDK is on $1.5-1.7M, not smart to have Marshall play back up from a list management perspective, especially when Heath and Dodson is apparently doing well in the twos..

Marshall helped us when we had no ruckman, because the coaching staff/recruitment staff had no idea, he is also part of the reason our midfield has been underwhelming, he will definitely be more valuable in a better team, like Stanley in Geelong and McVoy in Hawthorn, Hickey in Sydney. I wish him luck.

When our midfield is still building, best to ruck with a Ryder type (TDK) and have a young player like Dodson to backup.

Justin Koschitzke was probably the greatest player in AFL history based on a run of form over a 6 week period. Every year he has a patch of form that makes you think he could be a superstar but so far he hasn't managed to make it last for more than a short period.

I get your point.

But Lockett's 6 Game Streak was pretty good too ;)

In 1991 he had a great 6 game streak, and a perhaps more amazing 4 Game Streak to close out 1991.

We can try to carry two rucks for a couple of years.

Or we can make hay while the sun shines and get a quality pick for Marshall.

The latter makes sense to me as we need to fill other holes.

I'm saying they weren't spuds , you said they were
They weren’t guns either.

Williams was this decent half back they paid big money thinking they could turn into a midfielder who could break lines.

Martin was a bunch of unfulfilled potential. Still is and hugely injury prone.

If anybody has cast an eye to the 2026 free agency pool... it is THIN

Walsh, B King and Butters.... nobody else really worth mentioning

TDK makes even more sense, we need to have a fair dinkum crack.
Getting a first ruck to partner another first ruck is not a plug and play.
It not like adding macrae to the midfield mic or moving magnets
It's one of the last positions without any flexibility
Saints fwd.line
Marshall/tdk king owens
Higgins sharman hall/mid
This takes years to work
I can categorically say that it has taken much longer for freo to make it work than anticipated
Draft for talent
Trade for deficiencies

Will be a bit of egg on the administrations face if Windy does go. Kicked up a stink all year about how broken the bidding rules are and then our 22-year-old NGA walks out the door! Can't blame him if North are offering him that much though, player need to think about their lives after footy.
Seriously, if SOS lets Windy leave, he can follow him out the door. Give him the years he wants, find a compromise with the cash. Marcus is the glue in so much of our good work, has a great attitude and will probably end up in the leadership group if not the captain.

Saints fans need to show him the love too! This cheering for Nas on the 7th minute of the game, lets hear cheer for Windhager on minute 2 and show him he's loved at St Kilda.

There's about 50 year 12 students from an all girls school here at training. Appreciate the sentiment, but surely the find Nas a Victorian girlfriend experiment can aim a bit higher than that in its early days.

It must be some type of regular thing regarding Women's Football as they had another large group of Schoolgirls at the Club a few weeks ago when I went to training

We might all need to wait and see what the Roos are offering Windy first.

Players at a Club will accept someone like Nas getting huge overs, but if a Windy Level Player gets well over his level, then all players will expect same. Whether he is NGA or not is pretty irrelevant.

If we are going all in for our salary cap to keep NAS the first priority would be keeping windy
Id much prefer windy over aleer
