Hard to believe if there were Academies 25 years ago, we probably don't land Riewoldt or Hayes. Two players that changed the trajectory of the club for 15+ years.
I don't understand how players from Victoria, SA, WA and Tassie have to uproot around the country but the players in NSW and QLD don't need to leave, it's supposed to be National competition.

Mark McGowan - The Age

The Kangaroos want to add some defensive steel to their mostly young midfield brigade, and have identified Saint Marcus Windhager as the man who could do that. They have presented a five-year contract offer with serious financial terms to Windhager’s management, and have as good a chance as any suitor if he chooses to depart. That said, Windhager’s preference is to continue playing with his close friend Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera at St Kilda

Captain Jack Steele will probably remain at Moorabbin, barring a late twist.

I think with regards to Keeler you have to view what his primary use would be.

If TDK is playing 70% ruck time then Keeler is a 70% forward 20-30% ruckman.

IM hes already shown way more as a forward than Roma has and thats more than enough to make up for the potential deficieency he may have as a second ruck.

We dont need two rucks, we need one and a forward who can chop out (then Dodson or Heath if Roma goes down).

Paying Roma 800k to be a very ****ing average second ruck who may kick a goal a game seems nonsensical to me.
An average second ruck? He'd be the best second ruck in the game outside of Luke Jackson. Keeler is a better kick, doesn't have half the strength, tank or aerial ability of Marshall at this stage though. Besides, if King goes down again I don't see why they both can't play, if not Keeler has been far from breaking the door down in the VFL. Marshall may also be the most loved bloke at the club so I'd factor that in to your calculations as well.

There is absolutely no way we give up our first pick for Ryan. It won't happen. If they are steadfast on wanting that - which they aren't dumb enough to do - then we will withdraw

If it gets done, its at most a second round pick
Fancy even floating giving up a top ten pick for a 29 y.o 🤣🤣🤣🤣

As our pick 7 may get pushed back to possibly 12-16, is that still upper talent pool? Though yes it would seem to be some decent players in that range.

How far we get pushed back is hard to know with any confidence as there are just so many Academy and FS who could get called out and matched before our pick, plus WCE FA compo. And then with our pick the Saints could well call out several more as well.
OK - our pick may get pushed out from pick 7 to pick 9 (compo for WCE and Essendon).....forget all the other picks for NGA and F/S......those players are not available to us, so the pool of available talent doesn't change, irrelevant of when those NGA's and F/S are bid on! The only thing that happens if the NGA's and F/S's are bid on early is that the cost to acquire them increases for the teams to which they are tied!

It doesn't matter if we draft a kid at pick 9 or at pick 14 because there were 5 x NGA - F/S bids, it will be the same kid because those 5 x NGA - F/S picks were never available to us......

How are Essendon getting a compo pick?

If hes so good why are we paying $1.8m a year to get another ruckman?

Paying $800k for a backup ruck (IMO you cant play two unless they change the bench rule) is idiotic.

We dont need another ruckman, we need a forward who can do the job for 5 minutes a quarter. Keeler is much better suited to that.

Also cant see much point keeping him in case King goes down, if were expecting that every year just **** King off. At some point holding 800k on your books for a VFL player becomes a dumb list management exercise.

Can't see a world where Marshall is at the club next season. Obviously, he will stay if we don't get good draft capital but I think the club and the player benefit from the move. If we get a first-rounder, I reckon we give Marshall a thank you handshake.

I am only up for trading Ro if he wants it and the deal is worthwhile for us.

We don’t want to be pushing contracted players out the door. It’s not a great culture or loyalty builder.

If Ro isn't up for going, he isn't being traded as he is contracted. I totally agree with you and note RTB's comments on contracted players--which I believe was a message to Geelong if they want Ro but also a general message that we won't be trading contracted players.

We must be pretty confident that they are changing the bench rules.

I think it would take a better first rounder then what Geelong currently have.

Otherwise, how does it advantage us to trade him under contract for a pick in the mid-late 20s?

It leaves the forward line looking a bit shaky though. Caminiti massive question mark as a forward, Keeler showing signs but so young, King a massive question mark due to injury. I feel like Roma can be a point of difference.

Well that settles it then. Windy and Steele both gone.

Keeler has bulked up, hasn’t he? He was a stick figure at the beginning of the season.

Or were confident we can trade him.

$800k (give or take) off the books doesn’t hurt.

If only do it if he wants it and I wouldn’t do it for nothing but I reckon holding him to a contract if he wants out after we’ve moved heaven and earth to bring in his replacement and he has no real natural spot because we want 10 spots better in the draft woukd be pretty poor.
