2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Uhhh that’s not true at all. Roma played every possible game in his preferred position and is a top 5 ruck in high demand. GC have moved Flanders to a different role, heavily impacted his output and used him as sub.
Except we just paid a guy $1.8 a year to take his spot so weve forced him out.

Its the same its just that theres only one ruck and 5 mids (inclduing wings)

It’s going to be a very intriguing October. Will be interesting to see if/how these deals get done, but they all seemingly improve our squad significantly.

I don’t see a world where we recruit all of these players without Marshall and Steele leaving. As much as I have loved both players, they are approaching 30 and will be replaced by players with superior output.

Importantly, apart from the Ryan rumour, all of the targets are in an age bracket that we seriously lack 24-28. Flanders would be a fantastic addition, as he’s proven to be a quality player who isn’t able to play in a preferred position. Just can’t see him coming for cheap due to being contracted for a further two seasons, but it seems like we’ve done plenty of work in the background this year.

Personally, I’d love Windy to stay in the perfect scenario. Maybe us haggling a bit is due to having room for several trades to get done.

If we perform a perfect landing this offseason, the membership sales and excitement for round one will be huge.

interesting throwaway in Cal's phantom where he said the bid for Uwland is expected in the first couple of picks. to me that reads as though West Coast have indicated they plan to bid on him

adds an interesting dynamic if we try to turn Ryan and Flanders into a three way trade. an assurance from West Coast not to bid would save GC 740 points in itself (or the equivalent of pick 20). might allow us to get both quite cheaply
No one will ever bid with a first again, theres the stigma of the number 1 thing plus the financial incentive and marketing (was JUH/Thilthorpe the only time its happened?)

Might use 2 but theyre also trying to get approval to not lose the Allen pick if they can lure Starcevich too.

Sam Flanders gives me massive Zak Jones vibes when we got him.

I’ve liked a lot of our moves so far but this one I’m not overly optimistic about, happy to be proven wrong though.

Just get windy done.

I guess the question for our armchair list specialists is, can we have both Flanders and Windy in the same team going forward?

Absolutely we can. I like the look of the below best 23, which is significantly different to what we were rolling with the majority of this year.

Assumes we trade Steele, keep Marshall and acquire Aleer, Ryan, Flanders and JSOS.

If JSOS is off the table I would sub in Hastie. If Aleer is off the table, Wilkie plays full back. That forward line looks menancing. Gut runners everywhere, some size in the middle if we need it with Macrae and Boxshall.

This is a good looking squad on paper.

Thats potential future output not current output
Not really relevant to the point im making though.

We wont play two rucks (or at least we shouldnt) so weve shunted Roma at the very least into a non preferred position, if not out of the team altogether but we still want a first for him.

Its the exact same argument about Flanders value.

That backline will get destroyed by any team with two even moderately good talls. Camma or Dougal has to be the fullback.

Dont mind the rest.

Flanders is seemingly a pretty good pure mid (although from a small and dated sample, and not good enough to get a run this year) but it doesn't fill me with confidence that he is also quite average in other positions, so much so that he was most recently used as sub.

Yes pretty easily. As long as they both keep running both ways there is no dramas there at all.

Both can play another position outside of a mid as well.

I am not sure about the easily for both Windy and Flanders...plus several others.

It will also depend on how much Trav, Garcia, Boxshall, Henry all come on, and then there is Wilson and The Pou

Hall now looks to be a lock as mid/hf.

If we play two tall forwards in King/Marshall or Caminiti, then Owens may join in different rotations too.

Come 2026, and even ignoring Hill and Wood, the players below do not all fit in to 22:

Stocker Howard/JSOS/Caminiti Wilkie
Hunter/Tauru Aleer Sincs
Wilson Flanders Windy
Hall Marshall Sharman
Higgins King Ryan

TDK
Nas
Garcia

Pou Owens Trav Boxshall Macrae/Steele Henry

LOC Collard
