2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Im pretty confident you can all stop creaming yourselves about JUH. The Dogs would want at least a high pick in return, then there is the matter of his healthy contract, I doubt any club in the competition would take that risk ATM.

Sydney are desparate for a tall forward and they have had sucess with previous bad boys, but even they are going no where near him.

I dont want to be the kill joy, but I think JUH is just a pipe dream nothing more!
I don't think we get him either but the Dogs will absolutely not demand a high pick for a guy who has pretty much given up on playing football in Melbourne

They want him off their books and they have zero leverage

Dogs just want his salary off the books and the drama to go away, they'd take a packet of chips for him right now.

Still not sure any club would even offer that up.

Why we would believe we can manage him any better than them? Once again people are dreaming....

I’m not a huge fan of it, but if the club believes they can we might as well do it right if we’re all in on success from this point on

I honestly think with the Indigenous leaders we have and the program we run we’re at least as well placed as Sydney would be to handle him

Hill and Nas clearly hold a lot of sway as leaders in the community and it shows with players like Ryan requesting a trade to us. That request is never made 10 years ago

You back in your indigenous system and you back in your experienced leaders to steer him right.

I’m just not sure that’s trouble worth going to + A year out of the game, is a long time.

DESPERATE TO GET OUT’: PROMISING HAWKS DUO ON MOVE?

“Henry Hustwaite is desperate to get out of Hawthorn. He wants a chance (elsewhere), he’s ready.

Carlton has been mentioned in dispatches; they’re a no. But Essendon is the club that’s potentially considering that.”

Hustwaite hasn’t played at the top level since Round 14 against Adelaide, and was subbed out in each of his last two games this season.

He is contracted at Waverley Park until the end of 2026.

Why do we want another mid who is killing it in the VFL but not near afl selection?

Our current developing midfield group:

Nas
Windy
Hall
Pou
Garcia
Boxshall
Trav

All these players will get better (except Nas maybe, not sure he can really get better at this point).

They call have very good ceilings. I don't see much point adding additional mids unless they're already A-graders or seem almost certain to become A graders.

I didn't say we did want him.

Thought it was worth a discussion though. Been plenty of plenty of second and third year players that can't break into midfield and end up having fantastic careers.

I think he's be worth a look if we couldn't land Flanders and CMac.

Two shoulder surgeries on both shoulders for Tex Wanganeen.
Thats ok, think Chris Judd in his draft year
???
If it makes Nas happy
then all in.

You need to understand some of these, and maybe all, will not go on with it. Zero guarantees. A player that has shown something at the very top (ie Flanders 2024) is a preference to potential IMO

**** it, high risk, high reward. We have the best indigenous welfare program in the league. It may be just what he needs.
I’d need a physical fitness test and a mental fitness test tbh.
And a contract with iron clad conditions so we can dump him at first indiscretion.
Because it may be the first with us, but it’s not going to be the last.

Not for me, ideally.

Because he's stuck outside their system and still very young. He looks potential A grade still. He's from Phillipou's draft so hardly surprising that he's not in the starting 22 of a finals side with lots of similar players.

Problem is there aren't that many A-graders or almost certain to become A graders mids, those that want to move clubs are even less, then you would need them to want to come to you ahead of the likes of Geelong, Collingwood etc. So it's better to develop your own A-graders. Flanders and Mackenzie will increase our chances at developing A-grader mids. Out of the 7 you already mentioned, plus Flanders and Mackenzie. Hope we get 2-3 A graders.

This A grade thing with those two is just wishful thinking
No where near it at their respective clubs

Nas is a HB maybe plays full time mid but I imagine he'll stay an impact player.
Windhager looks wing/tag
Hall again is a brilliant high half forward and probably runs on ball to impact like DeGoey.
Phillipou maybe a full time mid but again potentially a part time impact starting forward. Already looking injury prone.
Garcia- should develop into a nice inside mid.
Boxshall- already shown bit but not played much on ball yet. Project player.
Trav looks like a HBF who may progress to a mid.

To me Garcia looks like he pushes Steele out and plays next to Macrae. That third mid/first receiver mid maybe Steele, Phillipou or Flanders I guess. Still a spot there and probably need rotations for the bench or second position types.

It would be interesting regarding JUH. It would be a fine edge with disrupting our culture..BUT two main factors I recon,

He must want to change his ways and drop the dead beats he currently hangs around with and our playing group has to be on board with it.

Maybe a third - our support and culture has to be able to actually be strong enough to support him ie: Geelong and a few of their players.

But essentially comes down to the individual
themselves if it works or not.
He needs to get out of victoria.I think
