2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

My biggest issue is his absolute lack of an opposite foot. His left is good, but not elite, so thats where he comes unstuck or at least will when he starts getting more attention.

Figure that out, and we've got a proper Libba clone.
I've seen Garcia's under 18 games, he is very good by foot, always put it in teammate's advantage.. the issue with our team is that it's much difficult to find space either when you get the ball or pick out a target down the field.. this is because we try to compensate the poor midfield by bring up the forwards and try to out number the opposition. If we can fix up the midfield competitive issue and do not rely on forwards pushing up, then it will help the side immensely.

I made a prediction to my dad a number of years ago that Essendon would not win a flag with Brad Scott and Carlton would not win a flag with Voss. Blind freddy could see both are not up to it. Voss couldn't hack it as Lion's coach and Scott couldn't hack it at Norf.

Anyways, to keep it on topic, what do we all think about what we will do with Dodzilla next year? I fear that he will be stuck in the VFL and may seek to go back to SA.
He’ll be a second year developing ruck.
Should be no problem with him spending time as #1 ruck in the vfl.
Most good teams with decent depth have a lot of young players developing in the lower comp.
Ours have just been lucky over the past few years with the injuries we have had.

The Hawks are front runners, but may not be willing to cough up enough to satisfy the Dons.

St Kilda potentially may be willing to offer more if the Hawks try to lowball. Merrett then may reconsider us, as we will look a more attractive option that we did 12 months ago.
We might make the finals next year, but the way our list is, we are not contending for the flag next year or the year after. Getting Merrett who's already 30 makes no sense. By the time we are ready, he'll be 34-35 and about to retire, would rather put the assets into Flanders and Mackenzie who would give us up to 10 years of service and could both become guns.

Look out for Flanders going to Melbourne now, especially with Windy staying.

King's caretaker coaching stints a turning point in him extended at the Gold Coast in the first place. Wouldnt be shocked if they unite.
Feels like the wrong fit for him, doesn’t it?

They don’t have a first this year and would need to weaken themselves by moving on Trac.

Puts him into a midfield with a coupe of bulls and no real point of difference

Well it's only a matter of time before the heat gets turned up on Brad Scott, place looks a dumpster fire at the mo'. Tim Watson kinda getting the ball rolling this morning, won't be long before others join in and we see the pitchforks out and torches being lit. Looking forward to it. 🤔

They really should do what we did, sack the coach just after an extension. 😀 Only problem is, well I guess they have many problems, but they have no one lined up and who would want to coach them right now?

I am not fixated on Merrett. Not sure that our List Management Team is not though. But the Hawks interest has probably bumped up the trade price.

I am not sure that we will have the trade capital to land both of Flanders and Mackenzie (remember that we are trading in both of Ryan and Aleer already) . And I would think the Hawks will want to keep Mackenzie if they can.

They want Windy so are seemingly seeking to improve their midfield. With Viney cooked, Trac uninterested and Oliver half the player he use to be, someone Flanders age would be a welcome addition to their midfield or to their half back line.

Complements Windsor, Langford, Lindsay really well as a midfield group imo

I'm thinking that we are only one of many teams wanting Flanders. Apart from a random report saying we have been confident since June or whatever it was, its just shooting fish in a barrel.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling we wont be getting either of Flanders or Cmac, asmu he as I actually really want both.

Cmack is a next year endeavour (if he doesn't re-sign over the summer)

Flanders still might be a facade but we'll see when Suns season ends

I’d have thought it was now or never for Cmac.

If he spends another year at the hawks he’ll either cement a spot or prove beyond doubt he’s just another C grader who wasn’t quite up to afl. From a recruitment point of view he’ll be out of contract but why would we want him. Surely we’re moving on from just chasing anyone who will come.

If he wants out then the moment the season is over he needs to say so.

We just need to be in a position where we can pounce if he gets floated as an option as part of a deal for Merrett.

If we've been in his ear for a while, great, half the job is done.

We'll know for sure after Cmac's exit meeting when Hawks season ends but as things stand, he is not leaving this year
