2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Cat's fans could be the dumbest on the internet, hard to beat Carlton for that but they have. They reckon their pick (which will slide to like 26) is OVERS for Rowan,. Yes you read that correctly. Overs... It's UNDERS. We have the upperhand and can keep him if they don't offer enough and SOS is hard to deal with. their first and second or first and Ollie Henry is gotta be on the table.

Anyone getting sick of winning trade week yet?
Now I know how those Bombers supporters felt all those years

Paradox Question: So the vibe has been that Steelo Is well down on his greatness era, and is a reluctant leader, and that we desperately lack on field leadership. And so no surprise that Jack steps down - and perhaps a touch surprisingly , is told that he won’t be guaranteed a spot in the midfield next year.

Paradox is, I still think Jack Steele is well and truly still in our top three mids, even way below his 2021 best!

Which isn’t a great thought to be honest.

So please Saints fans.

Tell me your top six staring mids at St Kilda going into 2026. From most valuable to 6th most valuable. Isn’t Jack Steele in there?
(Not talking about pinch hitting, part-timers, I’m talking starting mids)

I do think we have to start acknowledging what Brad Hill has done for the club.

Yes he wasn't the main man, but thats NWM now, one of the young men he has helped guide. Hill has been a good contributer on the field, but off the field has helped build and shape this list. He's taken Windy and Nas under his wing, given training a positive and fun vibe, worked with Ross to shape how we play, allowed Sinclair to flourish in a role suited to him and has helped other players get to the physical level!

I know the previous dawn was a false dawn, but I will always be thankful the day Hill came to the club, he's a culture builder!
If anything comes of all this in the next decade, the work of Hill and Wood will need to be chronicled. I don't think a fair chunk of members, let alone outsiders, appreciate the work done on every other level to elevate the whole team - even if they personally have off days on field.

I've been critical of a few of Brad's games believe me. But I'll always appreciate him

Dodson is advanced for his age, but he's still a baby in ruck terms. We're clearly gearing up for immediate success, otherwise we wouldn't be going after 29 year old Ryan and fighting to keep 29 year old Wilkie.

Let's say we have a good start to next season and are sitting 6th just after the mid season draft, and then TDK gets a long term injury. Do you think we still make finals with Dodson and Keeler handling the ruck? They would be destroyed by any of McInerney, Blicavs, Cox or Reeves. Marshall can beat any of those players, and Moose could maybe compete manfully without being humiliated. Dodson and Keeler would be tossed aside.
Yes we would be fine. Dodson is advanced as you said. No issue in fast tracking him. It wouldn't hurt us in terms of results like everyone is saying it would.

SOS and Gubby will sort them out, dont panic

Sure will be a different looking team next year- the Saints have thrown the kitchen sink at getting deep into finals.
My old eyes are going to be in trouble track watching this preseason. TheJackal

Hope you young whipper snippers can cover until I can recognise the hundred new faces.

I'm telling you man. Timeline shift. Something mystical happened, and we are now in a parallel timeline where St Kilda is no longer cursed. Did anybody hire any Etsy Witches? Be honest you're among friends
See how it’s done, Purple you idiot …

the Dees game and Nas’ subsequent signing was a true sliding doors moment. (not the tripe you write)

Flanders’s is a Gippsland boy. St Kilda is the closest club to the Gippsland region so gives us another point of difference for any players wanting to return home.

Only trouble is, in the near future the Dawks will be able to claim the same thing.
Bailey Humphrey was the Captain of Gippsland Power in 2022, just sayin'...

Part of modern footy is having a bunch of part timers who run through there - so one of your starting 3 is always a part timer. Every single one of those above has a second position. Then you add in Sinclair, Hall, Wilson, Trav.

The biggest problem with Steele is that he doesn't really have a second position. We all think he can play forward but he never has for a decent length of time. It means if he plays you're stuck with him in the midfield with less flexibility, while the others can more easily transition to half back, wing or half forward.

I wonder if we would consider trading down our first pick to someone like the dogs in exchange for a favourable later pick swap so that we don't trade pick 7 to the Suns outright?
Flanders has committed to Saints.

It appears a deal has been worked out between St Kilda and Gold Coast in case this happened.

We won’t get cute now by fiddling around with draft picks. Just get the deal done and move on.
