2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period: Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

I don’t know what was said yesterday.

But Ross and co have had a few events and even dinners with coteries + high valued members. I say co because Gubby and SOS have attended some.

I shared with a few what I knew of one last week. But they all seem to be a similar theme.

No ****s given. We will throw money around and we are a serious football club who are coming.

A lot of high praise for kids. Happy to share specifics like Tauru down back etc.

openly saying that future state probably doesn’t include the skipper or Roma (whenever that is)

Openly talking about wilkies offer and accepting he will need to make a choice because it’s big and throwing figures out.

Then openly saying no one goes cheap from us.

And openly sharing that there is MORE than enough money to go around our playing list.

Does the Tauru part mean they see him permanently in defence?

Based off that, Wilkie won’t get his contract adjusted ?

And Steele likely moves on this trade period ?

It’ll be adjusted somewhat - certainly if he becomes captain, but nowhere near what the dogs are offering.
Look what we had to offer to get TDK over, and he is a free agent.
Doggies are going to have to/ have offered Wilkie an excellent hike, according to all accounts but are really going to have to satisfy us first.
Personally, I think they’re on a hiding to nothing.
Wilkie will stay.

He'll get it adjusted but we won't match the dogs offer.
Steele and Marshall probably depends on whether 'future state' means next year or two years time.
IMO 2027 will be as big as this trade period.
New CBA, TDK's front loading will end, NAS might come down, if he stays, and if he doesn't, well have more room.
If Steele and Marshall are around then, they'll be on a lot less or gone completely.
Well probably have as much to spend as we've got this year. We're going to hear the same stuff 'where are they getting the money from?. It's being managed incredibly well.
There will be plenty for the young guys who want pay rises too.
Strap yourselves in people. We're a serious club now.

Wilkie money from Dogs is irrelevant because the club won't move him.

There's no scenario where it happens, WB won't be able to satisfy a trade.

if we want Flanders we'll need to trade out a contracted player to free up a list spot. not sure who if it's not one of those two. Butler as steak knives to GC seems to be the only suggestion so far?

They're both absolutely gone, and not sure if it's a popular opinion but our team is clearly better moving on from them both in the short and long term.

Great players for us, but it's time to pivot and do something different.

Its funny, there's a theme in the media - information always gets leaked right before a signing. Same thing happened with Finn re-signing.

Its like parties go fek it, we've lost we'll start talking to our media contacts now.

I agree to an extent, I think the best version of our midfield next year doesn’t have Steele unfortunately.

I could still see Ro playing a vital role for us but he is surplus to needs and would clearly be playing out of position.

Hopefully we get something decent in return.

Are you sure? We only need to take 2 in the ND and still have a few without a contract.

King doesn't do clickbait but he blows with the wind. The last thing he saw/heard is absolutel. Until he sees/hears the opposite.

Agree. King does go for the ride and the laughs but - but he also pushes back after them sometimes. This time, I guess he didn’t bother, so I sensed that it wasn’t as egregious or it just wasn’t worth it, or he was laughing too much. I well remember when Cornes laughed off McCrae in similar fashion, and King repeatedly challenged him, including when. McCrae had that blistering start to the season. Cornes then went for the ‘low damage possessions’ path. McCrae did fall away but his credentials are untouchable. So yeah, I asked, because I had heard of other people question Flanders’s value now too. And we know how we get caught up in recruit hubris - from Parker, Kent, and to Dow. We didn’t take the other Crouch once too, when we could have, and he head been a B&F and AA. Times change and some players can have a purple patch. I am not attacking the guy, I’m just asking. Cornes can smell blood. And he knows how to sniff it. He’s definitely a sniffer
