2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

It was always going to happen ,bloody obvious
My favourite was the “pick 17” implied as perfectly fine, but then goes on to talk about how Carlton won’t be happy with it turning into a pick in the 20s. I get the difference in their respective values, but the same pick has the same disadvantage regardless.

Gold Coast could say the same about us if Flanders chooses to come too I guess
They could but from what I understand they’re keen to move him on for cap relief & to open up opportunities for their plethora of nepo babies.

Whereas we are more than happy to go into next year with Roma as a key player.

I qualify my response with 'I want to see the Marshal TDK partnership...it's maturing up a list and launch for a crack at the 2nd flag by 2027...however if SDK and change came for Marshall.
They would have a 1st and 2 nd ruck. 2nd ruck is a back men instead of a forward, it might actually be a better 2nd ruck setup and the obvs. Thing of being brothers, like another bloke said on here, the TDK's instead of he Kings. It keeps the forward set, does that help with lthe forwards eading patterns and hence more shots at goal?
I reckon Sharman and Michito would have field days as the 3rd tall, 1 of them would kick 50...
I reckon Michito could replicate a Raynor type influence on games.
NAS is special.
We will see him be a special mid this year and playing forward. But far out... how good is he out of defense... running through the middle...lace out delivery... sexual 🥰
Ideal scenario...Nas and Flanders alternate between half back and midfield

Wonder if another club's president will have the guts to do what Bassat did and sack a coach a few months after extending his contract once the review had given him the full picture? It made him a laughing stock for years afterwards but thank christ he was mentally strong enough to do it, wear it and thrive in the end.

If ever there was a candidate for a reconsideration, it must be Michael Voss.
Yeah l disagree. Extending Ratts mid season when we were less than convincing to that point only for him to go on and lose nearly every game after that was the source of any industry mirth. Perhaps you mean the footy media who would find a way to shitcan us for a 3-peat if it evet happened. Ratts sacking was the deathknell of the amateurish acceptance and the dawn of a more focused and professional administration. Laughing stock? Piffle..

Perhaps Wilkie wants to leave for the pay day, so it would be reasonable in my view. I get the impression that the club think that Tauru will play the Wilkie role and although they love him, they are planning for the future and are prepared to make long term decisions.

SDK has a lot of footy ahead of him and we definitely need a 2m tall defender to play on the big forwards. Perhaps the club also think that paying a 24yo over a 29yo the extra dollars is a better investment?

I doubt we give Geelong Marshall and a first round pick, without getting a pick and SDK in return.

IF it does occur you would wonder what happens to Howard next year - perhaps he has interest from another club also?

SDK doesn't play very well one on one. More a tall interceptor that played spare across HB.

If the Cats were smart they would pivot into making SDK their #1 ruck. Just like his brother, his best work is done when he's on his bike and contributing as a 200cm link up player.

They have used him in the ruck and choose Blicavs and Stanley over him. He must do something they don't like.

Gold Coast could say the same about us if Flanders chooses to come too I guess
Gold Coast actually need to open up list spots. They have a logjam of early draft picks, including several from their Academy, that they need to expose to senior football.

If not, these lads will want to leave and seek opportunities elsewhere. The Suns will then haemorrhage elite talent without exposing them to senior football.

Flanders is a part of that logjam. The Suns want to cash in now rather than have his value plummet as he is usurped by others that jump ahead of him.

The Suns won’t get greedy in any trade. They will want a fair price but they are also realistic and know that they need to move Flanders on.

Marshall is the obvious currency for us with TDK coming in (and the emergence of Dodson) if we want Liam Ryan, Leek Aleer and Sam Flanders we probably need to move someone on with some value or basically stuff this year and next years draft.

For me, I could see something like:

- Marshall for Pick 17 and a future 2nd round pick from Geelong.

- Pick 7 and 17 for Flanders and 13

- Our future 2nd for Liam Ryan.

- Geelong's future 2nd for Leek Aleer.

- Potentially a late pick for Heath.

Pick 13 to the draft for Pou 2 and pick 43 + 58 for Fincher bid (possibly need to use both).

IN: TDK, JSOS, Flanders, Ryan, Aleer, Pou #2 and Fincher.

OUT: Marshall, Heath, McLennan, Boyd, Webster, Carroll, Jones.

Surely that improves the quality of our list a fair bit?
Really like this. If we get all those players who have nominated (including Flanders) and either retain Marshall / Wilkie or still hold a first round pick, its a win. If we can do all of the above, it will go down in history as a complete home run of a trade period.

In three weeks it will be two years since we pulled out of the driveway of our house on the Sunshine Coast. We have loved the remote and isolated from our drive in Australia, to where we currently are in Turkey. If you want stunningly beautiful, with no tourists then go to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Wonderful people, great culture and incredible natural landscapes. After 4-6 weeks in Turkey, we will quickly slip around Southern Europe to Morocco, to escape the European winter and find the remote and isolated again. Can't recommend this lifestyle highly enough.

How are you getting around?

Cal Twomey -

while St Kilda gun defender Callum Wilkie has the Western Bulldogs chasing him hard and the backman is weighing up their four-year offer. St Kilda - and Silvagni - will be front and centre of this year's trade window.
