2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Don't think he was looking around.
Sounds like Bulldogs approached him.

He could categorically put it to bed. He hasn't so he's trying to break his contract if he can get it done, he isn't 100% committed. If the club have genuinely sat him down and suggested that they can top him up a bit over his initial contract and he's still not committed he becomes problematic.

We need certainty and enough time to get another player to replace him. He's destabilising at this point and should be nowhere near a leadership position now.

Anyway JSOS probably replaces him now and we still need tall KPB. Jai Serong from the Hawks or my boy Derksen look okay.

Getting Serong who looks outstanding in the VFL after them stealing Battle would be funny too.

There seems to be correlation between hot places and stupidity. It's not his fault.

What is the reason for you say that?
The fact that it's still around. I think he wants to go there, it's a huge pay rise for him. We are getting Aleer and JSOS and have Tauru coming through so maybe we think we can cover him. I have no doubt that we'd be after a young star mid though. This is the issue with tapping up contracted players, you need to be willing to pay overs. It's in the Dogs hands.

You're falling for the Trade Radio bait. That was the most nothing Tweet, and there's going to be another 50 equally useless ones by the end of this week. Don't get drawn in

I’ve read your board.

The only ones falling for anything are the bulldogs supporters who think we are trading Wilkie for anything less than a superstar return.

Which won’t be as part of some deal for Sam Flanders and it won’t be junk picks coming our way.

It will need a centrepiece which will be a gun <24 years old.

Losing Wilkie means having to replace him.

It would also take losing Marshall to get SDK hypothetically.

So losing both Marshall and Wilkie for say pick 10 and SDK is deplorable.

Can we at least have 12 months without the SA nuffie told me Nas is going stuff again. I still have PTSD lol.

Makes sense.

I personally can't accept the club trading Wilkie unless it's a massive win for us.

Why would the dogs pay massive overs for a 30 year old regardless of how good he is?

I love Nas and there is no doubt his signing was huge for us but my concern is that there is too much hailing of him, especially by the club. He is singled out in speeches, constantly asked about in interviews and all over the club's socials. Specifically, my concerns are:
1. our other players will feel like they aren't getting any love;
2. it's a LOT of pressure on him and he will get tagged even more next year - he has shown that he can handle pressure well but he may decide after a couple years of it that it is too much for him; and
3. if he does leave in 2 years, we are setting ourselves up for bigger disappointment.
He took the money, he'll need to cop the pressure.

But seriously, look at those two pressurised moments when he kicked to draw, and then win, the Dees game.
I think he's got the temperament. Wouldn't be judging him by his unease with publicity.

Can't worry about 2 years hence. Just need to make significant improvement. And if he goes, it won't be cheaply.

I think the Dogs probably got a bit of a shock when we were open to it. They were probably just trying to stir shit after we landed Silvagni.

You are probably correct, however why would the Bulldogs offer in the first place if they are not serious in paying the price for a vital contracted player.
Will cost heaps in SC and trade capital. It is NOT a fair trade, it will cost Bulldogs a fortune.
Considering I know who drove this, I maintain that until the Bulldogs put offers of substance on the table, they are not a serious football club.

Damo really does have an issue with the club 😂

Just saw in AFL that he’s gone down the path of “I’m not sure of the talent they are bringing in” in regards to our free agents.

Seems to go in the face of everyone else who is pretty positive about us doing something.

Have to remember that this is the same guy that tipped Jack Martin to win the norm smith 😂

The trade period hasn't even started yet. Whilst I appreciate we will need to pay overs for anything to happen, surely you don't expect the offerings to be public at this point?

I also think were not really obligated to adress it. This isnt the Merett situation where his management has leaked that he wants out or he got caught meeting with an oppo coach.

All we "know" is that the dogs are keen, have supposedly made him a contract offer and Bevo might have called him.

Hes contracted, he hasnt requested a trade, Ross' public position is that the clubs mature and players and managers are gonna canvass offers. Wilkie is contracted so all the work on the player and the club needs to be done by the dogs, we dont have to do shit so why would we adress it.

Common sense would dicatet we are gonna ask for a kings ransom in players (not picks), that same common sense would dictate youre unlikely to do it.

have heard that Pou is a bit polarising with how dedicated and footy obsessed he is. Think it says more about those at the club with the issue than Pou. We want more blokes like him, here for the on field rather than the off field.
Would bet a big amount that Phillipou has some level of tism. He probably wouldn’t even notice if he isn’t part of any group, just locked in on wanting to become the best he can be.

You don’t have to be friends with all of your teammates, they just need to respect you.

Hard not to respect someone with his drive.

We are clearly open to trading Wilkie at the right price. I'm as shocked as anyone by that but it is what it is. I guess we see it as an opportunity to get better. Doubt the Dogs are actually willing to trade anything we want though
"the right price" is the key here. They can't get it done, so let them waste their time building up their fans hope. Hell, I'd trade my wife for "the right price", but I found out that it's illegal.

Destabilising? How so? He is contracted and we just say no.
You are extrapolating this into a story with, at the moment zero substance.

If he leaves we have hit the jackpot in a trade. You think SoS will give him away?

Anyway he wont be traded. Don't know if character assassination is warranted just yet.

You'd think as a North guy he'd understand the plight of having cap to spend, but then having no one interested in the offers, and then having to overpay your GOPs as a result, perpetuating the cycle of average performance.

Come on Damo, tell me how Charlie Spargo moves the needle for North

Deliberately obtuse to generate a shit piece for clicks

'Saints have made it known to Gold Coast that pick 7 is on the table for Flanders'

Yes you are correct 🙄
