2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

So when I read articles on the AFL website or elsewhere these days, it's mentioned quite matter of factly that Marshall wants a move down to Geelong, like it's a fact, common knowledge.

Is this true? And if so, how sticky could it get do we think if we refuse what Geelong offer, which will no doubt be unders at least in the first instance?
Ro 50/50 about staying or leaving

I think it's nice for Dogs fans that they've had their 2nd moral win of the trade period.

They won by not paying what was required to secure JSOS. And now they've won again by being used as a pawn by Wilkie's management to improve his contract.

Why improve your list when you can be superior by missing out on players instead.
Its interesting that they wouldn't up their offer to Silvagni but then were willing to pay Wilkie 1.1m, which didn't work out anyway. They should have just matched our Silvagni offer although I suspect the players coming to us are actually sensing a vibe so maybe he'd have chosen us anyway.

Windhager has leadership vibes. Sincs seems to be a kind, laid-back cruiser. I think you'd need to get Wood to captain short term or something.

90% of the role is sacrificing your own time for publicity and press commitments. Wood sacrifices his spare time anyway. It would barely change anything for him.
Like to see both Nas and Windy in the leadership group

Naughton kicked 60 goals this year… if anything Croft should probably be developed as a defender. Or play the former first round pick who is a defender you’ve got wasting away in the twos.
Whoops, wrong fish. Imma throw you back in, please leave my bait alone.

But they made us pay… more… for … Wilkie

Nope, still don’t see this “win” that they are consoling themselves with.

Thought about Wood first.
But he had a quite a drop off this year, I think.
wonder if his best 22 spot is guaranteed for the next 2 years.
Not sure I want to possibly ruin Windy’s trajectory with the responsibilities at such a young age. Let him at least vice captain to Sincs or Wood.
Windy has been in the system for 4 years..he'd be fine

If Steele is staying, and we don't have him in the first 5-6 on ball rotation spots, then I think his next best option would be to play as a defensive forward.

Basically swap him into Michito's role with Owens then getting more midfield/wing time.

Have Steele essentially tagging the likes of Zorko, Jaicos, Amon, Ash...

He's big enough to cause issues as a marking target and was more than capable of kicking goals when in full flight.

He'd still have his turn on ball when Macrae/Windy/Hall need a spell but I don't think it's a "midfield or bust" type situation.

“The Leak”
Juxtapose it on a split screen art house type of docu with 'The Leek' a documentary of how a young lad from a refugee family went from part time filler in a made up fake club to playing along side the best defender in the league, the son of a legend and Nasiah the messiah in a real foundation club.
Guaranteed box office gold.

Webster's role?

They were too busy patting themselves on the back for being seen as the favourite to land him that they completely missed the window to up their offer. Multiple media outlets saying them and Collingwood were blinded by our approach of him so clearly we worked quickly and it wasn't difficult to get his signature.

I also think you cant underestimate the long personal relationship JSOS has with Ross and how they helped get the deal done compared to him meeting coaches for the first time.

Was really impressive the way we went from him basically going to Collingwood, to a few suiters (with no mention of St Kilda) to St Kilda quickly being the chosen one.

It's been a very wild 6 weeks lol

Agree with the fellas. Windhager is a decent option

Disagree.

By the same token, Windhager should no longer be in the leadership group because he pushed for more money and shopped himself around.

It’s just the way the game is these days. Doesn’t mean they aren’t able to lead.

Seems like both JSOS and Wilkie had severe second thoughts on offers after meeting the coach face to face. Wonder why?
Stavro and St.Neil know. I am not surprised players are being scared off going to that club. I will be mightily surprised if Butters lands there.

All your scribbled love dreams
Are lost or thrown away
Here amidst the shuffle
Of an overflowing day
Our love needs a transfusion
Let's shoot it full of wine
Fishin' for a good time
Starts with throwing in your line

I think all the last three were Bassat having to step in and override the list managers by the sound of it. I'm not giving them a huge amount of kudos for signing on existing players. That should be baseline.

The rest are GOPs or developing but should all improve our overall list depth and quality while filling a couple of holes. We need to see what it all looks like in action to judge it now.

You know it's OK to give them a pat on the back occasionally - it won't make you a bad person......

Try it with me - "that'll do pig".......

Windhager didn't have 2 years remaining on his current contract. Huge difference.
