2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

My gut is rarely wrong! I just don't see any benefit to us trading him unless for a deal heavily in our favour. Id feel more comfortable knowing if something happens to TDK we have Ro there able to take the no 1 spot.
I think you’re right. We might look back and conclude it was unlikely Marshall was going to be traded.

But all the media nonsense that Geelong gets it done with a 1st or F1 seems to be way off the mark. They will have to pay a lot more than that. No cheap deal for them. Dilena’s interview certainly left that impression with me.

Stav wrote that he didn’t believe Dilena was being categoric. I didn’t sense that. It was a defiant tone that Marshall is required and that Lyon wants to keep him.

It might also be an indication that any deal we may be looking at isn’t on the boil at the moment.

No...we've commited to those 2 so that has to be honored
Not at all, all offers are contingent on a fair trade.

I think Aleer you can lock in, he’s out of contract and gws are reasonable in most cases. Ryan however is contracted and WC can be very difficult. He’s their player, unless we pay overs he won’t be going anywhere.

The question is what will WC ask.

I don't think Byrnes gets a game this year, don't mind keeping him but could we get anything for him?
Ross does like him a lot though
Ross seems to telegraph his thoughts in selection towards the end of the season.
Bonner, 18 games then out
Byrnes not dissimilar
Steele to sub

If we land our targets there's really not room for poor Monty on the list.

Turbulence hits Leek Aleer negotiations

ByMarc McGowan

Negotiations between St Kilda and GWS about defender Leek Aleer have at least temporarily broken down over the Giants’ asking price.
Aleer requested a trade to the Saints only days after the Giants’ 19-point elimination final loss to Hawthorn in Sydney after St Kilda offered him a four-year deal worth more than $700,000 annually.

GWS want a future second-round pick in return for Aleer, but the Saints have baulked at that wish.
The 24-year-old had struggled for senior opportunities at the Giants, but played 13 of the last 14 games this year, including the final against the Hawks.

I still think we're in with a shot for SDK.

Straight swap would do it for me. Not too fussed about picks now. About a third of our list is under 22, we've dipped into the draft hard. Time for some 23 - 28 year olds to bring some experience and be around for a solid 5 - 10 years with this young, core group.

When I saw the thread turn to suggestions of potentially Mason Cox, Soldo and Goober as rucks to bring if we lose Ro, I'm thinking--this is madness!

Future 2nd lol.

Is Pencil Case their list manager?

If the Eagles hold him then I don’t think that will help them much. In fact, quite the reverse.

West Coast will end up with a disgruntled Ryan who already wants to leave them. He’s already checked out.
But yes, they are entitled to demand their price because he is contracted.

Dilena sounded quite positive about a deal being done.

So do I.

Geelong have been using SDK as a hybrid ruckman/defender anyway.

If they saw him as 'the man' at full-back, he would be playing there only.

On the flipside, that does make me think slightly.... If Geelong don't rate him as a defender, then why should we?

But I'll worry about that if he joins and starts underperforming haha.

Giants seem to think they're negotiating with North Melbourne lol

Feel a bit torn about this. I want to get him for his athletic profile alone, but don’t want to overpay, given we have two of the best going around already. But they are not exactly young…
