2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

Future second with a third coming back is already overs for Aleer. I have no doubt that was our final offer and GWS has baulked at it so we continued with the other trade we were needing to get done in Ryan.

This screams of the other side attempting to influence the trade by taking it to media outlets, hence his manager having a public tantrum. Usually it just simmers behind closed doors until late negotiations occur and something happens but GWS may have just shot themselves in the foot.
No, we dont have list spots.

would have been a worse look if we waited until the last day and it fell apart then. Good early call allows everyone to move on.
Personally I prefer this rather than give a 2nd rounder and pay $700k pa only to find out we dont really have a spot for him in our starting 18.
.
.

Might be keeping some money aside for something bigger too

Damo crying on radio saying we have shattered Aleers dreams and ruined his chances at the club he loves.

Bruh if the giants love him so much they can just keep him

Makes sense to not go after another 2nd/3rd tall forward after getting Silvagni. I know I keep saying it but if we’re going to go after another key defender it needs to be a 200cm+ guy instead of another of what we already have. A ready to go 8+ year defender would’ve been nice but that’s the way it goes.

I didn’t say that I’m normal. Just don’t take it too seriously so you don’t look like me.

I’m relieved so obviously that helps but it will blow over. Tauru loses games by bringing him in. It was a bit of a messy look but better to pull up now than do the cowards thing and stall until the last minute and blame GWS.
I agree with the first bit…. Not sure on the second. Sometimes the appearance matters.

Love you dearly either way x

To be fair, it's probably one of the least "horrendous" things happening on the planet right now.

We are being told that our club changed its mind. What was the actual agreement with the Giants, and who changed their mind on what?

Nevermind the bleating, what's the facts...
Trade radio is running 10 hours a day for two weeks.

99% of what we hear for this two weeks isn’t even remotely based in fact.

It seems like Carroll might of been given a further 1 year contract for next year?
If so, l dont think any of the lads on the current hold list, get another contract then.
I'm not convinced we'll take more players than Fincher in the draft. If we also moved Caminiti and Hall to the senior list, we shouldn't need to delist Schoey (unless my math ain't mathing?).

Really having acquired SOSJ did we really need him , having Wilkie , Howard and the Viking - then again will Howard get on the park , his last 2 yrs he has hardly played.
Then again who knows who shakes free in the coming days.
With Aleer who knows if he could even hold his place in our lineup.

This is all true and again, personally, I’m glad we bailed on the deal, the only issue is the optics.

I'm happy to say that this place is my only source of AFL media. Sure, it's regurgitated down my throat like a baby bird, but i haven't seen barrets face in ten years. #winning

If I heard St Kilda had rung some random manager to voice disgust over [insert non-St Kilda team here] walking away from bringing in [insert non-St Kilda player] who had nominated that team, I would be thinking why doesn't St Kilda worry about St Kilda and get some deals done.

Sounds like something a salty Dog would do...

Change of discussion - what’s this I heard on the news tonight that every club will be getting an extra list spot to draft an Indigenous player?

Is that a little weird, or no?

Yep and can stay on the Rookie List.

Guys, I am 100% on the money here.

It's not contract value, its not draft value, when push has come to shove we have prioritised the players to be traded in that we needed / wanted to prioritise, didn't want to bend over for Geelong with a contracted Marshall, and didn't get any bites / Steele had no interest in leaving.

It 100% makes sense.

Reckon we still need to delist Carroll or Dow and re-rookie them given we have given them a contract for 2026.
We cannot keep Max Hall on the rookie list. We need to get him signed up on a proper long-term contract ASAP, he would be the only untradeable player on our list besides Nas in my view.
