Well over the years Mike has always been kinder on players than any of the other journos.

He gave reasons why he would drop him and said words to the affect that it won't happen because Fagan is wedded to him.

I'm more about where has the spray he gave Hipwood coming from.

Just seemed highly unusual to me out of a match that we won.

Melbourne will be a long drive for Joe to make each week
If he was to play for anyone in Melbourne you would think Geelong 'lifestyle' creds would be the winner ... and what he would be asking they can afford it. 🧐

Joe won't play again.

I see Mike Sheahan just said on OTC he would drop Hipwood.

In fact if you listened to his total content he gave him a real serve.

Mike's always been one journo who's been reasonably measured in his comments so surprised to hear that and wondering where it came from.
Thanks Mike, now Hippy will nail a 5+ goal game next and make everyone wonder again where did that come from.

Especially given that if Hippy had taken his chances and kicked his set shots he would have been a multiple goal kicker.

Don’t do it Lions.

Go after Jack Silvagni instead if he’s available. The thought of Draper at the Lions is nauseating, even more so on a 5 year deal.
I agree. Let him head to Adelaide and bring O’Brien over on less money, less years and lower (albeit slightly) supporter anger watching him dispose of the ball. He is also durable.

Draper’s worth has been seriously overblown based on a handful of cameos here and there. He’s also coming off a major injury - one that impacts vertical leap. Medical staff will do their due diligence, but they would have for Doedee, and so far it’s almost two seasons without an appearance. Learn our lesson - which was absolutely worth the risk - and move on.

To be clear, I’m okay with paying a ruck $750k, just not Draper based on what I’ve seen.

... Jack Silvagni? Why would we go after a defender who is 10-12cm shorter than our two main ruck options we have on the list at the moment?

Great to lock him away before all the Tasmania expansion nonsense starts. I will never begrudge an AFL seeking out the highest package possible. Im sure Jasper could have taken a shorter contract and taken more money over the long term. You just have to respect players that value loyalty and being a one club player more.

Draper and Allen both have what you would categorise as reasonably significant injury history.

So there are risks if we go for both , that's before you're satisfied that Draper's any good.

Just on Hipwood I don't know who would come in for him because he's all we've got. Mike's got that wrong.

With Daniher gone he's our most experienced and now the No 1 KPF but because he seems to be inconsistent and doesn't have the physical dominance you'd expect from a No 1 he cops criticism.

My take is that he's a perfect No 3 banana in a good team because he can be brilliant occasionally and if he's not your focal point the threat of his height and mobility would really worry a second string defender.

In my view we've changed our gameplan in the absence of Daniher to try to find more goalkickers right through to our midfield and Hipwood's job is now therefore to contest strongly and give these hybrids the chance to get hold of the ball in the forward half. Hipwood's a good honest trier who suffers from expectations that he doesn't quite have the capacity to fulfil , but he's doing a good job in this current role.

So I'm all for taking a punt on Allen which would obviously make Hipwood's life easier.

I doubt a Silvagni leaves Carlton unless he is forced to do so.

However, he was a pretty good 2nd ruck for the Blues in 2022/23. They finished 9th and 5th those years.
Missed all 2024 with injury and upon return was moved to defense by Voss
He can kick a goal when forward and can find the ball averaging 14 disposals and 4.5 marks a game both seasons

He is 194cm and has a decent jump for a shorter sized 2nd ruck.
Day and ZZ are 196cm
Smith much taller but not sure he is a forward at AFL level. Smith (if he stays) has only 4 AFL game to Silvagni 128

Just saying Silvagni is not the worst 2nd ruck option that's possibly available out in AFL land, that won't cost a draft pick.
