Given Collingwood just re-signed Moore this late, I suppose it is possible we could still re-sign Cal and Starc but looks like they are both gone. Its sad but you'd think we'd have the guys on the list to cover them to a large extent. Well not Starc, he's an out and out gun.

I would imagine it would increase the odds we draft Geesu (we probably would anyway) as he might well end up being Cal's replacement.

The bigger problem for me is Lester. Doedee did not look even close to what Ryan produces. Let's hope Lester can produce for another 2 years and we can find someone else to fill that massive hole.

Doedee needs a bit more time, he looked fine without killing it imo. I still think right now he’s a super solid player that won’t make many mistakes and with time can become a really valuable interceptor again

Starc I'm more confident about than Cal. If he hadn't had his concussions and missed months, we'd probably know by now if he was staying or leaving.

Answerth does what Starce does. I don’t want to lose him though - the two of them working together is an awesome combination.

I’m willing to hold judgement on Doedee. He’s been out for a long time so to judge him on one game is premature. I think this season has really just been about getting back on the park and confidence in his body. A big, very targeted offseason will determine his future.
Lester is probably a year-by-year proposition (as he’s always been), but he’s got at least one more in him, by which time we’ll know if Doedee can be his replacement.

The Crows obviously think the Lions is a happy hunting ground for them.

Considering what we paid for Cal and what he's delivered we've gotten an outstanding return. If Adelaide have made him an exceptional offer I can't see us now matching when we have other players coming in and have bolstered our list with gun youngsters who we'll intend hanging on to.

I'll be very sad if he goes because it's hard to find players of his versatility and durability. He's had a patchy year but I still believe once he gets fully fit again his best footy is ahead of him.

I'm sure Murray really rates him. Seeing nothing has happened this deep into the year you'd have to think we're only line ball to hang on to him.
One of the really good things about Cal has been his reliability and consistency with goal kicking...something that we have struggled with.

Like the sound of this guy, particularly the bolded, from an article in the Australian today on mature age draft prospects > https://archive.md/hfvaP#selection-951.0-955.565

Tobyn Murray, 19, Geelong-

“There will be an element of bias in what I say, but he is absolutely ready to be on an AFL list,’’ Geelong coach Mark Corrigan said of his bouncy small forward from Colac. “His physical attributes are through the roof in terms of his speed, his power and his aerobic capacity. He’s one of those rare kids who can cover 14, 15km a game and his high speed is unbelievable. He’s tough in the contest and he knows where the goals are.’’ The former Geelong Falcon showed as much with bag of five against GWS in Round 16 and he had 20 goals after 15 matches this season.

Be sad to see Cal go.. Although has a young family and prob been on unders for a while.
I thought he more likely head back to WA to family then SA though.

Starc I feel probably gone, you think he would of signed a contract if he wanted to stay by now.
Also as he might be one head clash from retiring you think he want a signed contract for insurance.

I do hope Linc comes up and has a good season next year someone of his ability is missing currently.
Cal seems off maybe body maybe contract just not as pressure as last year and Charlie not sure what he carrying just does not seem to be turning like he used to. Hope comes good next year.
We missed Kai who covered for that last year most of this year.

Answerth might not be back early in the season if Starc goes we might need another defensive HB.

All the talk we get Draper and Allen in as free agents. Pick wise our first will go on Annable which looks like a good player
Problem is he is another inside mid which we have a few waiting currently

I think it's wishful thinking to think that McCarthy will be back to his best. I think he will be serviceable, but don't think he will anywhere near what we know him for after two ACLs.

Mentioned it previously but if we do in fact lose Starcevich and Ah Chee, hope we target Oscar Ryan from the Crows as part of the Ah Chee trade.

Would Oscar Ryan want to move though?

He might, he is a Vic Country kid if that is still a thing

We should try and go after Cal Wilkie. Not sure we have the space to bring in Allen, Wilkie and Draper though.
He is an elite player, although we would have to trade for him so I don't think we would have the trade capital to get him unless a player was willing to be involved in the trade eg. Starc or Ah Chee level players. Other factors would be salary cap space and his Wilkie's age, turns 30 next year.

im afraid ah chee and starcevich are necessary sacrifices for us to bring in future hall of famer sam draper. it is the nature of the beast.
One of the talking heads on SEN said this afternoon/evening that they think Sam Draper will be one of the premier ruckmen in the comp in 2-3 years...

not sure if this is the right place to post but it is an Interesting listen

Hope coaches play it back to the players. They can decide what they want to be for the rest of the season.

If they come with the right intent, they are as good as 4 games away from another Grand final.

If they just loiter along, making it other person's job on the field - well it'll be an opportunity missed that they'll look back and (may be) regret.

Really don't think they need this knuckle head's interpretation of stats to understand the game they need to bring to win.
