I also wonder what some of our other players think.
Can’t say I know the full story but the way I see it he has been here for 6 years
Been a champion for our club
Out of contract
Wanting to get back closer to the family.
Funny business this football caper
I really hope Cal is on board with what has passed and was informed of what was required.
I personally think we could have sucked it up to get him to his preferred destination.

Then he would have gone to WA.

In theory, he could have been traded to any team & been closer to family lol.

I think the Swans are overrating their list massively. Curnow hasn't really helped Carlton do anything and he's injured a lot. Plenty of aging players on the swans list too. Should get naturally improvement out of Giants and Freo though. Carlton could surprise but look cooked for a few.
Swans will be better next year, not least for being able to just maintain some semblance of structure. Curnow allows McCartin to stay in the backline, and their mids are still as good as any. Sydney will also benefit from a softer draw.

His manager shouldve made certain the crows were able to get pick or picks to satisfy the trade

Needed to be worth a pick in the early 20s if not more

And it was hard to see how the crows could do that if they werent willing to trade away a first this year or next
Crows offered F2 and F3. If they win the flag in 2026 (highly unlikely) it evens out to Pick 36. If they come 8th (far more likely) it's 24; and if they drop to 12th (not impossible) it's Pick 19. It's reasonable but clearly it wasn't enough to convince Brisbane not to seriously piss off a dual premiership player with a far better offer on the table from another club, and let him go for nothing.

Poor form by his manager and Crows, very amateurish from both parties. Crows supported are very delusional, next years downfall will be delicious.
I thought his manager was very unimpressive and arrogant. He just thought he could force through a trade and treat the Lions with contempt. Full of his own importance and incredibly unprofessional with his comments.

I just had a look at what Melbourne have done in this trade period.

CJ went to the US for treatment and still no one's worked out why he's lost his pace. Mihochek has seen better days. Same for Steele. Max Heath .. ok ,to replace Gawn in time.

And they've lost Petracca.

Reminds me of us when we were in a downward spiral.

I wonder if Cal will be a bit comfortable in his massive deal to end his career as well

Nah he’s not the sort. He’ll be very good for them unfortunately.

Just hope they appreciate the value he brings even if he obly aVEraGEs 14 P0sS3sIoNs.

Tank before Tassie I think.

Crows offer was pitiful enough that throwing an elbow was the better outcome.

Sorry Cal, but a pisstake is a pisstake. I hope you re-sign but obviously it’s unlikely. The payoff here will come in future trades. If other clubs come with big deals for our players with big money, match it with a commensurate trade offer. Only free agents are free.

Thank you for coming over to our board to post your thoughts.

Your take has totally changed my perspective on all this.

Said nobody ever.....

How does a team finishing 12th end up with pick 19 as their second rounder?

Are you drunk?

If you make a “far better offer” to a player, your trade offer should reflect that. Your club is shit. :)

Well hopefully we all win.
Ah Chee signs with the Crows via PSD.
Crows to finish 18th and be happy that they didn't hand over pick 19 and pick 37.
Lions laugh at Crows for finishing 18th.

Win-win-win.

If the Crows drop to 12th next year your second rounder would be pick 19? What? It would be pick 30 in that instance and that’s before free agency compo, father sons and academy picks dilute it closer to pick 40 lol.

Where did you pull those numbers from?

I know Adelaide is a bit backwards but didnt expect it to be this backwards, by the time those picks are pushed out Adelaide essentially offered draft selection 40 and 58, lol no thanks

How does the PSD work?

West Coast pick Cal and they have to negotiate a contract?

If they can’t agree on a contract, Cal doesn’t sign anywhere?
Cal has to nominate his contract as part of nominating for the draft. Then it's up to whoever wants to pay him that to take him (in draft order).

Yeah I get it. I don't think anyone at the club wanted this situation to pan out like it has.

If a deal was structured that got us Pick 25 as an example, it would have gone through.

The list management teams first responsibility is to the Lions. The club comes first.

Adelaide offered a marque offer to the player to get him over but a fringe player trade to get the deal done.

That's a shit club.

It also makes a point in future that if any player is being tempted by a big offer, maybe their manager should check that the club is prepared to pony up the draft capital to fairly compensate in a trade.
Adelaide will dodge a lot of criticism because of St Kilda and Hawthorn's efforts this trade period.

adelaide and hawthorn have had hilarious trade periods

hawks made a pass at merrett, allen and petracca and are going to end up with none despite how smug smitch acted all year with his blasé attitude towards tapping up opposition players.

adelaide tried to get petracca, oliver, and ah chee and will similarly end up with nothing to show for it.

at least hawthorn had the excuse of trying to deal with the vengeful spirit of adrian dodoro when making an offer for merrett. adelaide is just an idiot factory.
You list manager is the new Dodoro. Wouldnt take a 2 and a 3 for a guy that not worth a first and I think everyone in the AFL world knows that. You piss of a player manager for what...it just sours people against wanting to go there if they cant look after players who have won them a flag.

Crows have offered Ah Chee a good deal knowing he can contribute towards potentially making a grand final. Not willing to part with pick 16(which will end up around pick 20-22) in an average draft to get said player in the door though.

When you are around the top 4 and able to add key pieces to improve your side you just get it done. Crows fans saying they jumped through hoops to help us land Charlie Cameron at the trade table… We did exactly as I stated above. We identified Charlie as a player we wanted who could help us rise up the ladder and didn’t play any games, we just offered pick 12 and got it done. Considered overs at the time when we had a couple other top 20 picks to offer and still desperately needed quality draftees in the door. We offered the highest pick(12), however, to lock it away and the rest is history.

Future second(pick 35 at best) and a future third(pick 48-50) is a joke tbh. Ah Chee is so underrated. Absolute gun, two time premiership player in his prime. Glad we made a stand.

Bad news for you buddy. Brisbane Lions fans can do maths. You might want to check your sums before posting on our board again.
