To be fair, it’s pretty clear gun footballers have already been thinking that way about Adelaide before this happened too.

My favourite part is when Adelaide announced via the media that they weren't going to pursue Oliver, when in reality he (like Trac) just didn't want to go to Adelaide.

What’s optics are worse

Valuing your player highly, with multiple interpretations of what that high value could mean to you.
Then sticking to your guns and not taking unders, with some media backlash.

Or getting a player to publicly commit.
List manager stating on opening day a Round 1 pick won’t be used and this trade will go down to the last day.

Clearly offering unders with an F2.
Arriving to the close out day with a couple of hour left, to only up your offer by an F3.
Then dragging the players manager out with you to the media conference, only to try and deter other teams from the PSD.

The more I think about it, the more comfortable I am with how it has unfolded.
We’ve got Allen, Draper and enough points for Annables, aF3 for next year. Sent a message that we won’t be taken for a ride.

Also doesn’t help when they re-sign O’Brien rather than chasing Draper

i am sure someone on here will want to post this on the Crows thread

Check out the assessment below:
ADELAIDE club banner

IN: Finnbar Maley (North Melbourne), Pick 64
OUT: Picks 57, 2026 Adel 4th round
DRAFT HAND: 16, 48, 55, 64, 73, 75
SUMMARY: A quiet trade period for the Crows, who missed the chance to grab a dual premiership player who wanted to join the club because they were unwilling to pay pick 16. Maley gives them another back-up forward, but the club is obviously satisfied with the list that took them to the minor premiership.

GRADE: D

Brisbane club banner

IN: Oscar Allen (West Coast), Sam Draper (Essendon), Picks 17, 23, 44, 51, 59, 2026 Melb 3rd round
OUT: Brandon Starcevich (West Coast), Picks 19, 45, 46, 52, 56
DRAFT HAND: 17, 23, 44, 51, 59, 68, 79
SUMMARY: The dual reigning premiers get even stronger. The Lions add a key forward and a ruckman to their list, albeit both coming off season-ending injuries, while they retain plenty of points to match a bid on Academy star Dan Annable. They would have preferred not to farewell dual premiership defender Starcevich but holding firm on Callum Ah Chee is a win at this stage. Does he still want to leave and take the risk of 13 clubs picking him before the Crows have a selection?

GRADE: A+

Ah chees manager carrying on like a pork chop with the Adelaide list manger standing there looks really bad from my view . Embarrassing from his manger . How is a pick in the 40s or 60s worth anything to us or a fair offer . His manger should have made them stump up something better then what they did even if it wasn’t 16 .

I don't really get where Adelaide is coming from. They've ruined a trade relationship with us, any other player will think twice about nominating them and every other club will walk their players to the pre-season draft, because that's what Adelaide does, so who cares about trying to get a fair deal with them.

Maybe they benefit getting Ah Chee for nothing this time, but long-term wise this hurts them.

Compare him with Merrett’s manager who was blowing up at everyone. Seems Big Brother Ben was only working with one side of the table. I’d drop him like lead

Pretty funny watching him state that Cal is a two time premiership player while standing next to Reid who offered up crumbs for him.

You'd be pretty wary nominating Adelaide as the club you'd like to go to, especially if you're contacted because they probably don't get a deal done.

When you think a “late second round pick” is worthless. Next minute generational 18 year old key forward.

Haven’t caught up, so don’t know if anyone else has replied, but…

Morris was selected with the second pick of the second round.

Which really highlights what Adelaide were offering us. After fathers son, Academy kids, compensation picks, and a second West Coast rescue package, if Adelaide finish 6th next season, their 2026 second round pick is potentially pick 42 and their 2026 third round pick is potentially pick 60, which is worth 0 points, so does nothing to help us in matching academy kids next year.

And then rattles off the kids names like the Lions have broken promises made to the family was truly pathetic too. Like others have said, be more disappointed in Crows for not getting the deal done on draft night and creating a level of some uncertainty over the course of the next 6-8 weeks.
Yeah listing off all of cala kids . Dom did say on trade radio a few days he wasn’t 100 % sure why he wanted to leave to go to Adelaide maybe the manger is due to get a bit more cash from the fat contract Adelaide offered is why .

An experienced list manager says ‘both parties couldn’t reach a deal and now we will work with Adelaide to get cal there through the PSD as Cal remains committed to playing for Adelaide’.
