Crows offered F2 and F3. If they win the flag in 2026 (highly unlikely) it evens out to Pick 36. If they come 8th (far more likely) it's 24; and if they drop to 12th (not impossible) it's Pick 19. It's reasonable but clearly it wasn't enough to convince Brisbane not to seriously piss off a dual premiership player with a far better offer on the table from another club, and let him go for nothing.
That’s before compensation picks, father sons, academy kids, etc are factored in. And maybe a second West Coast “rescue” package.

We only need the first round pushed back to pick 26 next year, and Adelaide to finish 6th for that future 3rd of yours to be worth 0 points, i.e. pick 55.

And for us, over the next 3 drafts, picks are only worth points, and they need to high second round picks to of any use to us. That’s the new reality of the new bid matching rules, higher premium placed on good picks, while anything later than a mid second round pick is viewed as essentially useless.

You guys might not be looking at future drafts, but there are a shed load of Vic father sons and good nga kids coming, same out of WA and for Port.

I just had a look at what Melbourne have done in this trade period.

CJ went to the US for treatment and still no one's worked out why he's lost his pace. Mihochek has seen better days. Same for Steele. Max Heath .. ok ,to replace Gawn in time.

And they've lost Petracca.

Reminds me of us when we were in a downward spiral.
Melbourne are all about clearing cap space and loading up on draft picks.

They’re in full rebuild mode.

Have 2 top 10 picks this year, plus 2 first round picks in both 2026 and 2027.

You list manager is the new Dodoro. Wouldnt take a 2 and a 3 for a guy that not worth a first and I think everyone in the AFL world knows that. You piss of a player manager for what...it just sours people against wanting to go there if they cant look after players who have won them a flag.

Incredible post.

The list manager who has been at the Lions since 2016 and recruited Hodge, Cameron, Neale, McCarthy, Adams, Cal, Joe, Dunkley, Doedee, Oscar Allen, Draper, is the new Dodoro.

My favourite part is when Adelaide announced via the media that they weren't going to pursue Oliver, when in reality he (like Trac) just didn't want to go to Adelaide.

Can't belive they couldn't get some free cheese and wine to Trac for his cooking page. Lazy stuff.

In fairness to Buttons his club did voluntarily trade for a cap dump and gave up picks for the pleasure. He’s had a tough day. Everyone on the list is heading for the life rafts and they’re recruiting cap dumps.

Kerry U20 star Ben Murphy expected to join Brisbane Lions in the AFL next month

The 18-year-old has been one of the rising stars in Kerry, having played for Mercy Mounthawk, the county minors and U-20s, and the Stacks senior team in the last couple of years

Austin Stacks’ highly-rated footballer Ben Murphy is expected to sign to the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League, with the player preparing to make the move Down Under next month.

A Kerry minor in 2023 and 2024, Murphy played a part with Tomás Ó Sé’s under-20 team this year, and is currently featuring for Austin Stacks senior team, who play Rathmore in the first of the weekend’s two county SFC semi-finals on Saturday.

Speculation around some AFL clubs’ interest in Murphy has been growing over the summer, with the 18-year-old spending a couple of weeks in Australia in August where he linked up with the Brisbane Lions for further discussions regarding a possible contract offer. The Kerryman understands that Murphy is ready to put pen to paper and sign a Category B Rookie contract with the Queensland club.
More of a list management than trade story.

The Swans just gave up an established best 22 player and 3 first round picks for Curnow.

Allen may not have the body of work of curnow but my god the difference between what the clubs have had to give up is stark.

My point was if the Crows finish 12th in 2026 then a 2nd and 3rd is effectively pick 19. Forget about 'picks blowing out' as those (picks) players aren't available to your club anyway.
Clearly you’re dim witted if you can’t figure out why we value the POINTS those picks are worth.
All picks are a possibility of blowing out after Pick 1. But I can see the majority of this board is happy with the strategy to lose a player for nothing and let the Crows gain a player for nothing. Congratulations on your magnificent achievements under Fages and with your list there should be far more to come.

Look, different teams value different things, so I won't blame you for not looking at things as what is valuable to Brisbane. Crows List Team should be across that, and that's pretty much the agent's job.

This shows that a Future 2nd, maybe pick 40, is worth about 200-250 points. We need (and already obtained) close to 2000 points for Annable this year, so 200-250 isnt a huge amount. A future 3rd for a team who just made minor premiers is worth likely zero points, and its questionable whether we'd have the list spots next year to hold it anyway.

Looking at your list, his age is close to Milera, Butts and Neal-Bullen (and Dawson, but Dawson is a different caliber). First team locks. Ah Chee is also a finals specialist in a finals team. If we offered one of those 3 players 5 years @ $800k, you'd expect a decent pick. You paid pick 28 for Neal-Bullen last year who clearly had less trade value at time of trade (had a good year for you guys though). If after offering that deal to your player, luring him to us, we offered you pick 40, Crows fans would laugh. If we upped that to 40+60 (60 likely to end up unused anyway), final offer, you'd think we were taking the piss. That's pretty much where Lions fans are.

Even if you think 16 was overs, a late 2nd rounder is clearly unders, and isnt really worth much to the Lions this year. Really, a bit part of this is actually that the new Draft Value Index screwed Ah Chee.

Eagles have pick 1 in the psd. Goes on ladder position, not reflective of the national draft order.
Ok. Thanks. I get confused. I changed my original post and now I think I make sense.

Adelaide: to Cal:

"Come play for us cos here's lots of $$$$ and we reckon you're really good and we can win a Flag real soon if you come

Adelaide to Brisbane:

"He's not really that good and you should be grateful to take our chump change picks that are useless to you.

So Crows spinning two narratives at once.

We're not a backwater small club anymore like circa 2011 to 2016. The GH5 mentality has long since departed . So pay us a fair price for players you want

Crows had one job this trade period and they screwed it up.

Draper, Petracca and Oliver all declined their offers. Big fail for Adelaide this year.

If that was true, there’d be far less angst from Adelaide, Cal’s manager and the Crows posters here on this thread…you all have a nervous little wait ahead of you and even a sniff of interest from the 13 teams above you will loosen your collective bowels

Cal’s manager will have an awkward conversation coming up with Cal too…how will he answer the questions: ‘why didn’t Adelaide just pay the two 2nd rounders Brisbane asked for? Why didn’t you get me where you said you’d get me?’

I think that the underlying sentiment of Brisbane getting a few leg ups with list management from father/sons, free agents and academy selections has played a part here.

It seems to me that Adelaide thought they would get a bargain on the basis that Brisbane would take ‘unders’ because of these factors and the healthy state of their list.

That’s not how it works. If you seduce a player with a lucrative contract, then you pay what they’re worth.

I’m glad Dom Ambrogio has taken this stance - it is a short term set back for longer term gain as the club’s take back a little more power. The onus will be on the player managers to broker a deal suitable for both clubs which should have happened here.

As for Ben Williams, Cal’s manager, he failed miserably at his job - in his own words he had months to broker the deal. That is why he showed so much angst yesterday and I would imagine he would regret doing a joint presser with the Crows list manager last night.

Be cool if he dumped the manager and re-signed for 3 years.
I can only guess that Cal would be pretty shattered by how things have gone down. I'm sure he would have been reassured by the Crows that they "wanted him and that they would get the trade done" and he would have trusted them. Likewise, he would have trusted his manager to get his communication with the Lions right and to know what was expected. I highly doubt that he would have wanted his manager standing up after the deadline and ripping into his premiership Club - so emotive and unnecessary - clearly, trying to deflect blame.
More importantly, has this dud of a manager got any of our other players on his books?

That presser with Ben Williams and the Adelaide list manager was just plain embarrassing. Adelaide want him, are forking out a hefty contract for him, yet don’t want to pay for it.

Adelaide and his manager owe Ah Chee an apology.
Being reported now that we countered for both 2026 and 2027 Second Rounders. Ah Chee and this manager should be fuming at Adelaide, theyve chosen to drag this out by not simply agreeing to a 2027 R2 instead of an F3. A mutually beneficial deal, where both teams could have sold value to supporters.

Obviously his manager needs to publicly back Adelaide, as that is where his client and money is coming from. Ultimately he will get to where he wants, but it will open conversations with Port and maybe even WCE and Fremantle.

Embarrassing for the Crom if they knocked that back....
