No I don’t think we should just spend the money because we have it.

As I’ve said I don’t trust SOS. I’ve made my position clear. I think his record is he just targets players he knows. St Kilda has in the last 10/15 years become good at targeted recruiting not splashing cash.

Go after depth players from giants, swans, GC , Espescially due to an academy oversupply.

Think it’s just a waste.
So name them. And what happens to our cap if we don’t spend it?

It’s fair to say $1.7m is overpaying, but at least provide more than vague alternatives that require picks.

Make Butters an offer he can’t refuse, not another ruckman
Didn't we offer Finn TDK money as a 3rd year player? Isn't that supposedly an offer one can't refuse, yet he did, didn't even seemingly agonise over the decision

Time to think about draft picks..

6 Wins gets us Pick 3
8 Wins gets us Pick 4
9 Wins gets us Pick 7 (I think a few other teams finish on 9 wins but our percentage will be better)
10 Wins gets us Pick 8
11 Wins gets us Pick 10

I think we're most likely in the 9 win bucket at the moment based on my ladder predictor, but if we drop one more like this, we probably do end up with Pick 4.

Are we still announcing NAS contract today ?

Team selection seems like we are also in this frame of mind….

So give up then ?

We offered LDU big money too, we are nearly 3 years into this attempt of improving and our midfield has been the problem since day one. Keep going backwards like yesterday it will get even harder

And how many players who should go in the first 10 will be unavailable to us due to their parentage or geographical location?

If we could get him for a 2nd round trade he would be worth the gamble - but he is still contracted and the Dogs would want at least 1 x 1st round pick possible 2.

Otherwise we should be still targetting elite midfielders either via the draft or trade.
Bulldogs are a distressed seller with JUH.

They won’t get a first rounder for him and it’s clear they need him out of the club. He appears to be culturally toxic.

All a club has to do is to convince JUH to play with them and a deal will get done.

Look at all of the players the Bulldogs have recently developed. They are stacked with talent. They don’t need JUH.

I agree, but also how many swings does one take? all the way back to Kelly. Add Shielx2, De Goey, Brayshaw, LDU, Merrett and probably a heap more that didn't make the papers.
making so many plays and zero hits kinda starts to make us look increasingly unattractive as though there is a hidden reason why they won't come.

I was just having a look at the Coates League games on the weekend. A kid who I was surprised didnt get a rookie spot at last years draft is playing as a 19yo and having a pretty good year. Gabriel Stumpf 196cms plays as a mobile key forward, he might be one worth looking at in the MSD is we open a list spot.

I do like TDK he’s a good player but Marshall is in our best players every week, so don’t see how TDK improves us much. We got Hill who was the exact player we DIDNT at the time this is just history repeating. TDK will be nice but won’t improve us much, know where you’re list at and build accordingly. I would hope we keep going to the draft

we have to, into another compromised draft we rebuild.............

Remember a lot of discussion in the last half of the 2010s about needing outside class on the list. That was Hill. The acquisition of Hill, if a failure, wasn't a failure because we targeted the wrong type. It's a failure because we didn't get what we thought we were paying for.

i dont necessarily agree with this. i re-call many people didnt mind the idea of hill but they didnt like the idea of the asking price.

from memory freo got him pretty cheap with a 2nd rounder. but then when it came to us we sold the farm for him and it cost us Serong. take Serong out of freo and hand them back hill and see how they go.

we had bemoaning the lack of inside mids. we had a walk up free hit and we decided to go get an outside runner with good disposal instead.

it was madness.

yet people still defend Gags, and we even had the ****ing audacity to laud him for getting all these deals done. yeh no shit because blank cheques were written.

TDK costs zero draft/player capital though. Can go to the draft whilst acquiring him - whereas we sold the farm for Hill

On top of TDK's talents in the ruck, it also probably protects Marshall's body and extends his career by 1-2 years where he can play a bit more forward

Or we trade him and get an extra first rounder to further invest in the draft

No club in their right mind is giving up two firsts for Jamarra at this point. A late first would probably get it done for whatever club he nominates

Generally ignoring bit players or over the hill trades who wouldn't amount to much.

2010, we'd just played a Grand Final. Steven King retired, traded in some filler's drafted Cripps who we were going to lose. OK no big deal. Decent players ( or better ) on the list 26. Like guys who would have a career.

2011, Retired Baker and Gardiner, Got in Ross (who would take for ever to develop), Newnes and Webster. Not bad we still had McEvoy to ruck , ( though Gardiner was a good forward ) and Wester probably a better player than Baker long term.
Decent players on the list - 27

2012, Lost Goddard, Brett Peake, Gram. Cripps. Got Roberton, Hickey,
Decent players on the list - 23

2013, Lost Dal Santo, McEvoy, Blake, Koschitzski, Milne, Gained, Savage, Longer, Bruce. Billings. Dunstan , Acres.
Decent players on the list ( including Billings, i know i know ). 25. But look at the drop in quality.

2014: Lost Gwilt, Jones, Hayes and Stanley, Gained Membrey and Sinclair.
Decent players on the list 23.

2015: Lost Schneider and Ray, Gained Carlisle, wait , false alarm , banned for the year. Gained Gresham.
Decent players on the list ( including Gresham but not Carlisle ) 22

2016: Fisher Retired. Gained Steele , Carlisle ,Long, Battle, Marshall, and Stevens and Nathan Brown. ( pity Armitage was going downhill fast )
Decent players on the list 28

2017: Lost Dempster, Riewoldt and Montagna. Got Clark.
Decent players on the list 26. But Armo was slow and couldn't bend , and Stevens had already retired.

2018: Lost Hickey, Stevens, Gilbert. Gained King.
Decent players on the list 23. Roberton not playing by now and Steven in a bad way.

2019: Lost Newnes, Armitage, Longer, Steven, Acres, Bruce. Gained Howard, Ryder, Hill , Butler , Jones, Byrnes, Wilkie.
Decent players on the list 24.

2020: Lost Brown Gained Crouch, Higgins, Sharman, Heath?
Decent players -26-27?

2021: Lost Dunstan, Roberton, Carlisle . Gained Nas, Owens, Windhager,
Decent players 28. (29?)

Hell my numbers don't add up right and i can't be bothered going back checking them now.
Seems like we've spent a decade of NOT replacing a team of stars.

It’s not how I remember it, since early 2010s it’s always been midfielders and still Is our problem no good getting outside class when you don’t have inside bulls to get it to him. We didn’t get what we were paying for because we didn’t have anyone to get it to him and still don’t , Hill would be a star at Dogs or Loins

TDK and Bergman add physically combative players in their prime to our list which is something we're crying out for.
If we walk away with both for a second rounder and some then it's a huge win.
Jamarra is a contract we should absorb for the next two years and aim to turn him around if the bulldogs asking pricing is in line with those of a player with his issues.

I'd listen to offers for Sharman, as a 2nd foil he's more Ryan Gamble than prime Bailey Fritsche and if Windhager wants to go, I'd let him.

No chance we get Bergman for a 2nd, it has to be a future 1st or walk away imo

We'd probably get what a second rounder for Sharman? I think he easily outperforms that when Max is back. We should be bringing KPPs in, not trading them out

Agree on Windy but not if it means it unsettles Nas & Chito
