Ok Young Gun #6 whoever you are (presumably a Port supporter) why would you disagree with this?
Port supporters genuinely believe a good trade would be Bergman for NWM and a first round pick. They're delusional, which should be expected for the fan base that thinks their teams history extends before 1997

The first is a future first.

They don’t have a first this year.

Which makes it even worse.

Steele is probably the odd one out there. He really only had the one great season. Wilkie and Sinclair are both in the top 5 by position in the league and over multiple seasons. Leaving them out would be a conversation for selectors. No-one is even mentioning Steele anymore.
Realise that. Was referring to in their moment. Steele was a 2 time AA in '20 & '21. Wilkie and Sincs are more recent. I dont think Sinclair's or even Wilkie's omissions even in recent years would be hugely controversial: a few teams have at least one player who is as good in that position.

And my point remains they are at a level a little under guys that are locks for their positions in the AA team over 4 or 5 years and would be the first picked, or would cause Gerard Wheatley & Co hours of earnest on-air discussion, maybe even with a soundtrack or highlights montage.

We have more talent in U23 players now then at any point since maybe 2003/4

We likely hit the draft again for more.

The question we need to ask and somehow answer is; how do we get them to do what that 2003/04 group did - which is explode as a collective at AFL level.

Do we liken their growth to the strength of performances to senior players as per that group - Gehrig turned into a star in that period. Harvey Hudghton Hamill Peckett Powell etc all still at high levels?

Do we put the onus on them to lift the group? That also feels very north like and they show the pitfalls of that.
It was stated repeatedly that our strategy was to hit the draft for 2 years, then go all out on FA this year.

They didn't anticipate every single one of their FA targets turning down the famous War Chest and them looking a bit foolish standing alone in the nightclub with their money burning a hole in their pockets, and TDK might not solve their problems but he probably does make the team better long term, and buys us a bit of time. Wish Rowell or Callaghan had been persuaded though. If someone equally transformative will become a FA in '26, will we have more room in the Salary cap for him, assuming Aleer and TDK come and our important OOC guys get a boost for an extention?

Man there have been some absolutely grim hypothetical players thrown up for potential NAS trades.

If it’s not Bergman or Butters included.. hang up the phone. Sinn/ Berry/ Whitlock whatever other hack we can think of are not it.

Im so tired of this NAS stuff honestly, I’m convinced he will leave. Then I come on here and we’re gonna end up with Josh Sinn and a packet of chips pick!

What happened with all those Tuesday NAS is signing rumours? Did they mean Tuesday 22nd of July?!

Just popping in to say the license was actually 1994, '97 was just when they started playing, so technically Power did extend before '97.

Talent ID is often subjective and ebbs & Flows over seasons.

Sheezel LDU Mckercher Duursma Powell etc don’t look as elite as they maybe thought 12 months ago.

Whereas, NAS has gotten better. Tauru looks like the most exciting draftee from the 2024 crop etc.

I wouldn’t get overly caught up with comparing us. We need to ultimately do what they haven’t - which is collectively take the next step.

And I think I’m swaying towards King being indispensable to that achievement.

They're in an interesting spot. Mckercher failed when played up the ground, and is back to getting cheapies down back. Looks like he could be headed down the Andy Mcgrath path. Powell is a whipping boy of theirs, but has improved this year. Decent return for pick 13.

LDU has moments where he looks like the best player in the comp but he's still not doing enough for them, especially with the contract. He still floats in and out of games. Sheezel is having another good year, but I think we've already seen everything he can do. But what he can do is very good.

Too early for Duursma, O'Sullivan and Whitlock, who they traded up for. If those 3 prove to be guns I think they will be very dangerous in a few seasons.

No, they want OUR first round pick for that trade lmao. Bergman for NWM and our 1st round pick.

They are living in a fantasy world where Port Power existed more than 30 years ago.
Sorry to intrude, but I can’t say I’ve seen anywhere where Port posters have suggested this. We are well aware that NWM is worth more than Bergman.

Yeah apparently people at the club think he's a unique character

Probably one of those really locked in individuals. Maybe like the primary school teacher's pet

Not a bad thing tho

This is true. Earlier on in the year the club posted a video of the players giving eachother feedback, and a player said something along the lines of "we appreciate you making an effort to get to know us better and socialise a bit more."

I thought he was the worlds biggest FIGJAM pre draft. But i've fallen in love with his attitude and it's made me realise what we've missed. We have an introverted, quiet group and when you play for St Kilda it's easy to get away with mediocrity because we aren't in the spotlight. This can be an advantage in a way, we don't have the same pressure of a Carlton for instance. When we lose it's not front page of the papers and the leading topic on all the shows, when Carlton lose it feels like the world is caving in and emotions are heightened to the extreme, which leads to rash decisions.

He's a big character and you can see how much it means to him, he almost wants it too badly. Hopefully these injuries have humbled him to an extent, and made him realise it's not just going to be a linear path upward towards stardom. I think he will be better for it.

You can't just lay this all on a list manager and simplify it down to a pass or a fail.

"Inability to attract an elite midfielder is a huge fail for SOS and the club = fail."
Is this on SOS? Noone gets elite inside midfielders in their prime without paying a massive price. If you consider Bailey Smith an "inside mid" then he is probabaly the only one that was a steal, and Geelong have the biggest trading advantage in the comp. Elite ballwinners very rarely move clubs, and if they do, they go to winning situations (Dunkley to Brisbane, Smith to Cats) so I feel it's unfair to pin this on him. Almost all inside mid's trades are young project/potential players like Caldwell.

"The loss of Battle who regardless of the circumstances, he was the best CHB we have had at the club for sometime = significant loss".
How much can you blame a list manager on this? If a player wants to leave, there's not much a list manager can do to stop them. If Trav and Taura end up being guns, this will be seen as a win, it's far too early to judge this move.

"Not recruiting a ready to play CHB after losing Battle = fail" Again, CHB's don't just grow on trees. You can't just go "oh well, we lost Battle, let's now recruit a gun backman!" It doesn't work like that.

What he should be scrutinised on is being obsessed with bringing in players from the last place he worked. He did it at Carlton with the Giants and he's doing it with us. My main concern with SOS is his knowledge based is severely limited and he focuses on what he knows rather than daring to get creative.
He shopped battle.

If Port and Adelaide are paying 2mill a year the trade will have to be in relevant value to that money.
FWIW both don't have the capital to make it happen and NAS seems happy at the saints.
They'll just make NAS whinge to everyone about wanting to go home and he won't play anywhere else.

So the capital is irrelevant.

Contract of 2 mill a year and 2 mill front loaded for 2 years, as suggested by littlecreatures , is a different thing though. If I’m understanding it correctly.
Correct this could be more about money than people realise.

NAS could lock in 4m with us then go back to Port and ask for even more when he returns home in year 3. Or gets the back end of that Port deal improved significantly where he's really losing out.

So far he has years 1 and 2 sorted. But years 3 on wards aren't great for that long term deal.

Surely if Whitlock is being talked about in Trade discussions, it involves Keeler more so than NAS.
If Aleer comes and Howard stays ,all of Keeler,Caminiti and Barrat are capable of playing fwd with out a need for Whitlock.
Whitlock for Keeler makes more sense if a previous post has legs.
Was mention a week or so ago that Isaac only got offered a 1 year deal

Nas thread on the main board.

I wouldn’t trawl through it cause it’s stupid but that suggestion is in there.

The issue with the steak knives suggestions for this trade is they don’t discount anything they have to give so then why do it?

To me based on what they have Bergman and 26 first OR Berry and both future firsts is the BARE minimum.

If they wanna throw Whitlock in with either of those offers that’s fine but Whitlock or some other steak knives shit doesn’t get anything off those and we’re not gonna add anything in.

And I say that expecting most saints supporters will tell me to **** off with my minimums.
Getting the port supporter laugh reaction at this.

Love those guys.

Really the mentality of those trading threads every year are like pre teens having a pissing contest.
The idiocy an immaturity on display post after post, year after year is quite concerning.
The level of intelligence and partisan stupidity is embarrassing.

A lot of unnecessary bedwetting going on.
Tell me about it, but it’s mid July and we’ve checked out of the games (don’t remember so little pregame chat for multiple rounds in a row for a while now)

it’s either the incessant concern about the ruck merry go round or the back and forth worrying and coddling about nas apparently.

Some of ya’ll need to learn how to self soothe
