Thank you.

So he doesn't need those things, he already has them, he just needs more consistency, which is fair to expect develops with more game time. I was probably being a bit contrary to make the point, but I think he has those traits as well.

My brother is a similarly strong advocate for Hastie, so it's good to see numerous independent opinions based on the eye test - if you watch him and know footy, you can see has natural ability.
I've seen plenty of footballers that haven't made it who possess elite traits. We all have. My original post was just pointing out that he has them but needs to put them together.

He can be Webster's replacement but also be a damaging rebound player. If he can be 3/4 as reliable as Jimmy, he will have a solid career. If he can be as solid, he could be something great.

If you put him in the draft he doesn’t get to Port.

I'm sure they would find a way to make it illogical for anyone to take him beforehand. 2.2 mil one year contract set as terms for the PSD, and get the media machine talking about how homesick he is and that he just wants to be back with family so any "heartless" club before Port thinking of taking him knows that this happens again next year. Plus their cap would be blown out.

I think we need to accept that we won't be getting what we perceive as fair value. And history suggests that when a homesick gun player is unsigned in late July, he's unsigned because he's going home. He nipped the speculation in the bud by signing his previous extension in early April. If he was staying, there's no reason why he wouldn't have signed already.

I’d put him back in the draft and if we had a pick before Port take him and **** the media hysterics about a grown man being homesick

**** getting screwed at the trade table why should we agree to unders for the best player we’ve drafted and developed in 20 years

Rules are rules. It’s on port to satisfy us when discussing these hypotheticals.

This is going to be form part of the reason he signs on again. They can’t get a deal done.

West Coast, Richmond and North would all happily pay that for two first round picks (minimum) and they can all afford too as well.

The psd is the nuclear option for both teams, it doesn’t benefit port at all.

In reality I think if a trade didn’t get done with for him (which to be clear, if he requests one I think it will) I’d say he’s much much more likely to sign with us for another year or two. Better the devil you know etc.

No. If a club like port put 2 mill on his head in his first year someone needs to March it. Sucks for port because we can.

Then we might as well match it before that happens if he won't accept our other offers.

So Port could essentially say "well we can't get a deal done this year nas so stay there for 2 years and we'll make sure the pricks have to pay through the nose for you."

Is that a possibility?

Matching it before is pointless. If he leaves, it's not because Port are paying him more money. It's just because he wants to go back to SA (to the team of his choice)

We are offering the same amount per year as port. They'e just front loaded a potential deal.

Fwiw no club puts a price on a player if said player nominates for the PSD they can set their own contract terms (money and length im pretty sure).

It won’t work in Nas case because whatever port can pay him so can at least the bottom 3 teams and even if he said he had no interest in playing for them and might even just sit the season out they’d be paying his salary to buy draft picks (probably two firsts) and you won’t find a team in the bottom three that would turn that down.

Him going to the PSD would suck for us and for them, it’s a rarity in most cases, it’ll be even rarer for a player like NAS.

I’d be absolutely stunned if we’re not willing to (at least) match financial terms if that’s what Nas wanted.

There is a chance of that I reckon. His manager would have said to him that port don’t have the assets and if he did request a trade it would get very ugly. I think port havnt taken the require amount of first round pick to the draft in the last 5 years as well. We don’t want to future because they will be push back so far because of tassy. If he does request a trade this year port know a good player has to be involved.

Carlton did it when the walk Jack Martin through the draft

If any player wants to go home, they can go home any time they like.

If they want to make squillions out of being a professional AFL footballer then perhaps they should accept the rules they willingly sign onto.

Its about time the clubs actually became professional and apply the rules the players have agreed to in the CBA.

Otherwise - why bother with rules?

Interesting watching TDK last night. Seems utterly confused about his role as a forward. In the ruck in the last I thought he pretty much won them the game then they moved Pittonet back in there and nearly lost it.

With his skillset he should be more effective as a forward but essentially he's a ruck. Very quick hands, great skills in tight for a big.

It isn't though. If would be if he was contracted, but he isn't. If we don't accept what Port are offering, then he could make a handshake agreement with them to put a 2.5mil price tag on a 1 year contract in the PSD, and then re-sign for much less on a long term contract. We would need to shed players like Windy and Hall to redraft him and then he'd just try to get out again next year.

I'd love nothing more than to be wrong and see him re-sign, but he would have done that already if he wanted to.

The only example of a star player re-signing later than this was De Goey, and that was him chosing to stay loyal instead of taking our money. When has an uncontacted homesick star ever re-signed after late July?

If NAS leaves and nominates Port and if Port can't offer fair value Adelaide would then have an opportunity to get him.
Port will offer fair trade value or risk losing a nominated player who then loses him to an arch rival.

Are you talking about the salary?

The player nominates their salary, no doubt he spoke to Carlton about what he should nominate but even with him there is a risk someone else takes the player on their terms.

Nas is a really unique situation because worst case for any club taking him gets two firsts for him in a year.

Sure, the issue is Port don’t have fair value unless butters agrees to come to us and if Nas doesn’t wanna go to Adelaide then he stays or goes into the PSD.

The overwhelming point is that NOT doing a deal is not an option for Port
