I've spoken a bit about Marshall tonight, but if its Carlton he goes to - we might actually be a chance to grab their TDK compo depending on where they finish.

Why? Dean, if we finish just below Carlton, SOS will absolutely put it out there that he'll bid on Dean - a bit like Kako.

Marshall may well stay, but dont discount this from happening.
Roma is not so decrepit as to finish his days at that hell hole. He'll be getting offers from decent clubs and if he goes, it be to one of them.

Geelong

SOS left Carlton in 2019.

But sure what happened in 2023 was on SOS and I’m sure you are probably thinking what happened this year relates to him to 😂

I mean it 100% has nothing to do with:

Cripps signing a new 6 year deal deal in 2021
Curnow signing a new 6 year deal in 2022
McKay signing a new 7 year deal in 2022
Walsh signing a new 4 year deal in 2022
Weitering signing a new 6 year deal in 2024
Cerra signing a new 5 year deal at the start of 2025
McGovern signed a new deal in 2023

Saad got traded at the end of 2020 to Carlton
Williams joined at the end of 2020
Hewett joined in 2021 and signed a new deal this year aswell 😂

Bloody sos hey. Even when he wasn’t there he still ****ed the place up. What a legend

Alright fair enough but that strategy still ****ed Carlton regarded of who's policy it was. I apologise to SOS for that incorrect attribution. Still ****ed them.

Cap rises but so does every newly signed contract. It gets eaten up very quickly.

Paying players with potential champion money seems a desperate move unless it's a Callaghan or Rowell types who would be a huge needle mover. Even then you can go 10% over market value with some extras and make it look a lot less desperate.

I personally wouldn't pay any ruck more that $1 million a year.
And this is also false.

Contract require the increase to be built in.

Part of the reason stkilda and Essendon had so much cap space was because a significant number of their player contracts didn’t have automatic increases built in.

Sounds brutal but happy to move Steele on in his twilight years. I saw a poster say Walsh would cost $1.7m, if that's the case no way, but he may just want out of that dumpster fire.

We've been screaming for mids for years and whilst we've got a couple of speculative gems in the middle/late rounds of the draft, I still think we need to make the most of any opportunities to strengthen that line.

I'm Macraes biggest fan, but he's on the wrong side of 30. I'm not advocating it as a must do, but I dont think we should be overlooking possibilities to strengthen any line.

Walsh is injury prone which is what has held Steele back in recent years. To me Steele can be a bridge between our kids and now and can play as a HF if we want to move Hall brothers on ball.

Not the guy organising our strategy.

That’s the only point that matters.

Not if he's following the same model of paying huge contracts to GOPs that bite long after the list manager is moved on.

If NWM leaves it gives me Dallas Mavericks Doncic list management vibes.
So if the league manipulates the draft somehow to get us the first pick, everything is OK?

Also, on a separate issue, I'm pretty sure Carlton cannot trade the compensation pick to the club to whom they are losing the player.

He’s looking tired is Ro I’m a fan but agree can’t get off the ground and even when he went forward it wasn’t like he was clunking them …IF he’s carrying an injury fair enough

Came off zero preseason and was playing with injections in one of his feet. He's still a gun even at 50% rat power.

Yeah the same strategy that he never implemented….

Or maybe he is following his strategy which allowed for significant cap space at Carlton during the point he left - which involved the draft and trading out good existing players - who didn’t meet his timeline for draft picks.

Originally you were moaning about his drafting and we have hired Dalrymple. Who’s first 3 picks are: Hall Trav & Tauru - in my opinion I think Trav will be very good for us.

Outside of letting someone’s favourites go. SOS & co actual haven’t done anything wrong.

I'm not privy to any inside info but I have zero issues with SoS so far. I wanted the battle compo, hence happy with that outcome. Drafting has been pretty good. Henry acquisition looked great before the injuries and I thought we paid a good price.
My only complaint to date is TDK, and that's only due to the length of contract. The only player I would offer more than 5 years to is Nas.

I didn't mention what he's done wrong. I said that I think it's stupid move to over pay for TDK.If it backfires will be on him.

Was I wrong that we needed to draft our way forward? I have no problem with Dalrymple. I was wanting him when we had Trout. We won't know how good anything he's done isfor a few years. Hall Imagine is probably someone who looks at alternative pathways. Usually different portfolio at other clubs.NMot surest the Saints.

Carlton having paid huge and long contracts to GOPs wasn't problem until it bites years later. That's the point.

I haven't got it in for SOS but I don't think he was a great list manager at Carlton or GWS and his relationship with Ross makes it a bit messy. Gubby on the other hand, I just don't get. Can't see what he's achieved except getting guys like Hill and Howard in at huge cost to our future.

Yes gringo. You have constantly said go to the draft.

Whilst simultaneously potting our recruiting team. If we touch on your favourite topic - drafting Serong.

The player we were heavily linked to prior to that trade period was Fisher McAsey the Dragons product.

The likelihood is that we still balls the pick up.

We are in a decent spot now with our build. This is a big off season for the club.

$146k before tax IF he plays every game.

I wouldnt talk that up too much personally. Granted there are the AFL list player benefits of sponsor clothes and meals paid for etc but hed likely make more working a stop slow bat on a union site and playing country footy on the weekend.
Jesus, you are a miserable hard arse. He also gets to see NWM carried around on the Boss's shoulders in person 🤣🤣.

Seriously Hall is a great redemption story and one of those diamonds in the rough that the Saints have to land to be competitive. If any player in the team deserves his pay day it is Max Hall.

Personally couldn't see what the other track watchers could in pre season, but after Christmas, I was a convert. What a 4th qtr from him.

I doubt anyone is suggesting we shouldnt pay the man, I also completely get why his contract was what is was but claiming a salary of $150k (at best) for a professional footballer is decent is a wild take to me.

Isn't that the reason they have used the cap surplus to overpay a ruck? Instead of paying the likes of Lonie, Newnes, Billings, Dunstan et al a small fortune this time?

You sound like a dad on an 80's American sitcom when his son learns a lesson in humility in the resolution part of the story arc.
It's almost like Gringo is Theo, which would make you Bill Cosby 🤔
